reminds me of kiln fiend, with flying and 1 more toughness (the latter is largely irrelevant) for 1 more mana. The only difference is when you use kiln fiend you burn their creatures and swing for a billion, while with this you burn the player and swing for a billion.

Unlike Kiln Fiend however, you can just use the ping effect of a Prodigal Pyromancer to buff him every turn. Could have awesome power with Gelectrode.

mdakw576 has it about right. I prefer this over the kiln fiend because burning the player while attacking him/her as well ends the game quicker. Kiln Fiend needs evasion, like goblin tunneler.
Flying is very convenient. I'm not saying it is completely unblockable, but it is better than nothing!

by the way, the 3 toughness has relevance; it can survive a volcanic fallout, adding to the amount of strategy available.

The "creatures that benefit from spells played" decks are really fun. I'm glad WotC is printing more and more cards like this one. Both Kiln Fiend and this guy have their own advantages, but why not play both? They fit into different parts of the mana curve and will only make those decks better. This card will fill the slot of Wee Dragonauts for standard decks and possibly even replace it in extended decks (but that's a different deck anyway).

The best thing about cards like this and Kiln Fiend is they create really competitive budget decks.

in a red deck with cinder pyromancer and with prodigal pyromancer does the ability triggers???
if you have 2 pyromancers in play and you tap them does the ability triggers twice???

@ffang: How so? The land burning happens on your opponent's upkeep, which only makes the spitfire a big blocker. Except it won't be, because it doesn't have vigilance and it's rather unlikely you didn't attack with it on your turn.

I used to enjoy my red tim deck. Then I saw this card, and managed to make room. Now my tim deck is a spitfire deck. This kills so much faster. This card eclipsed the deck. It is WAY too powerful in multiplayer, because of cards like Violent Eruption. With a third turn Spitfire, and a fourth turn eruption, I have done 17 total damage, including 14 to whichever opponent couldn't put up flying defense. This deck isn't much fun to play, though the win percentage is very high in my meta-game. Everyone grumbles with it comes out. If I play tims without the spitfire, I am disappointed in how weak it is in comparison. If my opponent has a bad draw and can't take care of this card, it is very likely that he is dead on turn four or five, and I was just playing solitaire.

Would Chandra's Spitfire pump up twice if I used two events to do damage to the same person? Example: 2 player game, I use two pyromancers to do 2 damage to my opponent or a pyromancer and a lightning bolt, would spitfire get pumped up twice?

This card is the reason my girlfriend plays magic.., she never paid much attention to it when i was playing and then one day i "splurged" on a booster deck and there it was!! and so the relationship grew!! ps her name is chandra haha

it's basically a 4/3 that can get stronger when you have a prodigal pyromancer or equivelant (I prefer vulshok sorcerer)

Just played a fairly new player and turn 5 killed by landfall Searing Blaze-ing away his flier, Lightning Bolting him, swinging for 7 with this and Flinging for a clean 20. He was so mad afterward. I guess I shouldn't have done that, because I know how it feels when stuff like that happens. Still, an awesome card. Rivals Kiln Fiend, if not surpasses it in some cases.

Combos with Chandra Nalaar herself, her +1 ping can keep this thing a 4/3 flying pretty much all the time, not to mention the other burn you're likely to be running that will pump it even further.

If you want to build a deck purely around the spitfire, simply add a few Flamekin Harbingers. That way, you can be pretty sure that you'll get a spitfire every game.

Anyway, I use this with Cinder Pyromancer and Grinning Ignus. With all three in play, you can effectively pay Red to ping the opponent for 1 and give the spitfire +3/+0. For fun value and incredible utility, I give this card a 5/5.

Say, here's a fun interaction, going off turn five:
Cinder Pyromancer pings opponent for 1.
Soul's Fire, Targeting Spitfire to damage opponent.
Pyromancer untaps and pings opponent again before Soul's Fire resolves.
Soul's Fire deals 7 damage to opponent.
Spitfire swings for 10.

Takes a bit to set up, but it's 19 for one card and three mana, meaning you can afford to use other cards to keep yourself alive until it can happen or get rid of any blockers (or just put out a Goblin Tunneler).

This is one of the most "awesomest" cards ever! I built a Red/Blue deck around this, complete with Prodigal Pyromancer, Ember Hauler, Fire Servant, Staggershock, Sensei's Divining Top and whispersilk Cloak. At its best this card in conjuntion with others can pump out about 9-10 damage to player in a few short turns. I love it, its fun, a must have for a red deck.

Grapeshot is actually a good choice with this too, as it will trigger for each storm count.

But, with storm, you are trying to to much more than just get one creature really huge. At least, in most cases.

Opening hand: 2 Mountains, a Goblin Fireslinger, a Fling, a Chandra's Spitfire, a Shock, and aLightning Bolt. Not too hard to get something like this.

1st turn: Mountain, Goblin Fireslinger.
2nd turn: Pull a Goblin Fireslinger. Play a Mountain, Goblin Fireslinger.
3rd turn: Pull a Mountain. Play a Mountain, and Chandra's Spitfire.
4th turn: Pull a Mountain. Play a Mountain. Smack them for 2 with the Goblin Fireslingers, hit them for 5 more with the Lightning Bolt and Shock. Spitfire's up to 13, attack them with it.

If combat damage has been prevented or something was cancelled, you have Fling for backup. Or you could simply overkill them.

This is the most hilarious cards i use with my mono red burn deck. Imagine this

turn 3 she's out.

turn 4, i take out Guttersnipe ( 2 dmg to opponent or creature for each cast i use)

turn 5, i use 4-5 lightning bolts / chain lignting.

4 x 3 + 1 = Chandra becomes a 13/3 flyer.

not to even mention the 2 dmg per lightning bolt. 2+ 3 = 5 . 5x4 = 20 dmg.

Recap, i am swinging for 13 + 20 lol. game.

Sorry if this post was messy but she is the best thing that's happened since Kiln because she is a flyer. more chance of your opponent not blocking her at all.

Say you're playing a 5 player game. Say you have this and a Guttersnipe out. Say an opponent has 20 life and a strong board, but nothing with flying. Cast Lightning Bolt on them, swing with this. They die.

Play this with Zhur-Taa Druid. You won't be able to ramp it out any sooner, necessarily, but when it attacks, you can give it +3/+0 for each opponent. In the games I play, this could easily be +9/+0 as an incidental bonus from just ramping some more with the dork.

Chandra's Spitfire is a REALLY good card. What makes it good is that the ability triggers off so many different effects. My favorite is with the ETB/death trigger of Keldon Marauders. I really only play casual, but this card has allowed my monored deck to win on turn 4, which is the fastest I've ever won a game. Here's how it went. I was up against a slow-ish blue-red deck, and I went first:
