Poopy.

I can't think of any reason to run this.

This is the sort of card that exists because the design is expected, rather than because the design is needed.

I would have expected more out of a card called "phyresis," as the process of becoming Phyrexian is supposed to make one STRONGER, isn't it?

Not every creature in an infect deck necessarily has infect, you know. If you aren't running Skinrender you're an idiot, and guess what it doesn't have.

I for one like the card, It allows infect decks to actually consider non infect cards, and makes something like a Terra Stomper even more of a threat.

From a flavor standpoint, it also seems to fit this new Phyrexian force, turning the innocent creatures into their weapons of war.

Yawgmoth + Phthisis = this.

Would have been great as cantrip.
Because it's no cantrip it's a very very timmy-ish card with little to zero playability.

I don't understand why this card is so under rated. For 2 mana, you can turn your Leatherback Baloth or Primeval Titan into a lethal force! Giant Growth, Avenger of Zendikar for blockers, Garruk Wildspeaker for his ultimate, etc etc... Now that green has removal in the form of Naturalize or Creeping Corrosion, I don't see why anyone would want to skip this, unless you are simply using green for mana ramp and the cookie cutter, highly over used and boring valakut deck.

This isn't too bad. You guys are seriously rating this lower than Lifelink?

If i'm going for infect, I'm going to take creatures that already have infect.
On a side note Heartless Hidetsugu just became a phyrexian.

I have an infect EDH deck that's BGU, and this card is awesome fore it. I had been running Quicksilver Titan to become a 7/7 Blight Mamba, but with this, I can maybe take a more useful ability from an opponent's creature and still let it be a giant infect threat.

saw a darksteel sentinel with this card at prerelease. A 3/3 Vigilence Indestructible Infect! (But it was weird that darksteel sentinel ended up in an infect deck to begin with)

Strictly better than tainted strike.

★★★★☆ (4.4/5.0) (4 votes)
its not strickly better then tainted strike. they fill diferent roles. tainted strike is a combat trick on a unblocked creature and gives it plus 1/0 which is amazing wiht infect. phyresis is meant to turn somelike a duskendale wurm into a game winning creature.

I love this card, there are so many epic combos that are yet to be discovered.

I'm glad to see another option in EDH to give Vorosh the Hunter infect instead of just Grafted Exoskeleton.

First thing that came to mind:

"I'm putting this in my Zur EDH deck"

I feel like hitting someone for 10 damage instead of 21 to kill them

Infected, Umbra'd Aura Gnarlid maybe?

For a card that has a name which is a very significant terminology and process in the world of MTG, it's a bit weak (in my opinion). It should do better than just give infect, i guess.

"I'm glad to see another option in EDH to give Vorosh the Hunter infect instead of just Grafted Exoskeleton."

^ This, but I was thinking Crypt Rats or Skirk Fire Marshal.

Am I the only one who follows WoTC columns on cards? What I am getting at is this: "It deals damage to creatures in the form of -1/-1 counters AND to players in the form of poison counters." So, let's put this in a red or blue deck with Prodigal Sorcerer or Cunning Sparkmage since you will take a poison counter since I am dealing damage to a PLAYER and you you have one major threat deck, since you have the red to burn, if needed, the blue to counter, and the black to destroy things. Its called "RUB" deck and people will not like it, I am sure; but if people do like it, let me know. The down side is yes, it is an Aura which can be destroyed, but if you make the deck right, you won't have to worry about your things as much. I am just saying all this as a personal opinion and as a casual/Standard player.

So damn useful in anything running black...
Extremely underrated....

I have a pretty specific question that pertains to this card in combo with Perilous Myr. If Perilous Myr is enchanted with Phyresis, given that "When Perilous Myr is put into a graveyard from the battlefield, it deals 2 damage to target creature or player", does that mean that it will deal 2 infect to target creature or player, or does the enchantment detatch from Perilous Myr before the damage is dealt?

Dear R&D, please learn how to spell. Thank you.

"Perfection is at hand. You have been freed of weakness and made compleat."

Fun fact: with Melira, Sylvok Outcast in play, this almost becomes a black pacifism.

Um... Anyone else see Thran Golem from the M12 previews? Turn five that, turn 6 this, and enjoy swinging with your new better Baneslayer angel.

Should have been "enchantment permanent"
then we'd see some interesting interactions.

I want to make a deck with this, Glistening Oil, Aura Gnarlid, and a bunch more tasty Auras. Rancor and some Totem Armor auras would do nicely.

*Sigh* If we were going to use infect we'd already be using infect. This card is handy, but...
Ugh. So pointless.

@doragon what if you're running a black re-animator infect? destroy a fatty, bring it back, give it infect. I know it's a stretch, but still.

@AnTzero: Heartless Hidetsugu?

He would draw the game...he deals damage to all players...unless you got under 20 life before you cast him, you'd just make everyone mad/neutral instead of everyone mad and you happy.

Compleat IS an actual word. Albeit an archaic word, but its still a real word.

This should have also made the creature untargetable by Phthisis.

This should've costed Black. Generally, if your attempting to infect your opponent, your creatures already have infect. But on the flip side, if your not running infect creatures, you'll have no reason to want to begin doing infect damage to your opponent, when you could be continuing your progress against their life total. That by itself makes this card a little awkward.

That being said, there are more than a few creatures in the game that become absolutely silly with infect, such as Inferno Titan or Heartless Hidetsugu.

@gman92 And it's not like there are any ways to reduce your own life total...

Anything with firebreathing, or any shade.

Oh God. I may have actually thrown up from even thinking about that.

This is usually a pretty naff card but on Heartless Hidetsugu it becomes hilarious. It basically gives you a biological doomsday weapon you can threaten to use on people should they attack you. Bonus points if you can give him shroud.

UNLEASH THE PLAGUE!!

Actually, this is really good with Heartless Hidetsugu. You just have to get yourself down at least 1 health and you win. Maybe a Gitaxian Probe? See your hand, win?
