Why did they make these?? Play Steel Wall or Kraken Hatchling...

The worst white creature ever

This + donate + painter's servant against a non-white deck = win! it doesn't fit your criteria any more =P

Holy shit, Kurhan - what a unique use of a truly terrible card! If you wanted to do something like this in a mono-red deck, you could do Ruby Leech and Bazaar Trader instead... wow, with Painter's Servant, this would actually really suck for your opponent!

Hey, Leshrac_Nightwalker, you could go whole hog and imprint a Soul Foundry with alabaster leech so you could generate one every turn and then us Bazaar Trader every turn to give ti to your opponent. With the Painter's Servant combo you're making all of his spells cost 1 more the first turn you do this, 2 more on the second, 3 more on the third, 4 more on the fourth...
and it's not 4 generic, it's 4 white.
Mind you, it's a relatively unlikely 4 card combo consisting of this creature, an artifact, and artifact creature, and a red creature.
I have been asking around, and this is the worst card anyone has been able to come up with. Two criteria: 1) It must not be in any winning combo. 2) It is so bad, that if you had it in play, you would try to get rid of it.
This is the current winner.
Mudhole is worthless, like Sorrow's Path. But, they are not liabilities. This card actually screws you over.

God this is awful, should have made it a 2/3 at the very least and even then it's really bad.
Invasion's Leech cycle has to be worst rare creature cycle ever printed.
could have easily been a 3/3, 3/4 or even a 4/3 to balance out it's crippling drawback.

@lukemonster that place is taken by the Great Wall

Invasion was such an awesome and flavourful set. We had the Primeval Dragon cycle, great legends like Reya Dawnbringer not to mention some Weatherlight crew members FINALLY getting cards like Hanna, Ship's Navigator, Captain Sisay.
I don't think it would be possible to imagine the disappointment in opening up an Invasion booster and getting this junk as the rare card.

Believe it or not this guy is a game winner in EDH zedru deck and you can use the 2 others also!

Horrible. These days, you can get a 1/2 white kitty (Dark Ascension) for W as a common, or a 2/1 Elite Vanguard as an uncommon. This thing was never playable.

My naive imagining that no card was utterly and totally terrible has been shattered. Into pieces. By a leech.

I remember opening up an invasion booster and getting a FOIL one of these. That was a weird feeling.

These leeches (or at least the ones) are abusable in Zedruu EDH. Other than that, burn them with fire.
Another Invasion Card that discourages playing with Gold (multicolored) cards. If you look at the promotions for Invasion, It's clear they knew these were losers.

Even forgetting about every better low-cost creature you could play in a white deck that's been released since, at the time there was still Phyrexian Walker—1 less power, no drawback, and FREE.
This is one of the worst creatures ever printed, and it being a rare just makes it that much more absurd.

pretty sure 1 for a 1/3 with no drawback is easy to come by at uncommon these days

*give it vigilance *change the ability to: "The first spell you play each turn costs W more to play if it is white."

It does have the same combo Derelor once did (although Derelor was actually playable on its own, once in the day, back when 4/4 for 4 was impressive.) Change its color word or play Painter's Servant, then donate it to someone who doesn't have access to white mana, and they're screwed. Not a good combo, but it's a combo.
It still sucks though. Honestly, the 3 toughness is a disadvantage, since it hurts you while it's on the field. Stupid thing can't even die right.

This is the most baffling of the leeches. At least the other leeches have stats above the standard creatures of the time. Not enough to justify the crippling drawback mind you, but still better than the standard deal. But white has had Savannah Lions forever. I suppose that you can argue that it never had a 1/3 for w before... but why would it want one?

The new Legendary Creatures in Commander 2013 edition will make the price of this skyrocket! Why, I might actually get money from them instead of paying people to take them from me.

I don't know why people are so upset about this. When this is in play, there is a plethora of cards to choose from that comboes nicely with it.
Use Doom Blade on it for example, so your white spells cost less to cast. Swords to Plowshares would do the same for only one mana and give you three life. Wizards realized this broken combo potential, that's why they made sure it would cost to cast.
This just further proves the great design of this card.

All the leeches of this type are useful. It's simple, you donate to an opponent then color hack it to hose their deck. If you don't understand this, its time to get a new hobby.
