I can actually see this working in a BR discard deck, tutor for this with liliana and play it the turn after her. The opponent's hand should be empty or near-empty anyhow.

Interesting card

Could be evil with Cruel Ultimatum. Also, this casts the cards instead of merely putting them into play. See: Kozilek, Butcher of Truth for why that matters.

I think it's m11's Hive Mind slot

"Otherwise, the player casts it without paying its mana cost if able."

Since a creature & sorcery card can only be played during your main phase and the Wild Evocation effect occurs during the upkeep phase, does this mean the player is unable to cast a creature or sorcery card? I would assume so.

I'd also assume cards with X in their casting cost would be deduced to X = 0 (e.g. Comment Storm would do 0 damage)

@AllanGeorge

Then it would combo great with the blue leyline

I can see where something like this can be incredibly powerful,
But a kick in the face later on.

This card is gonna be a huge success in Eldrazi decks... think about it. A turn seven Emrakul? For FREE? Use it in a blue/red with polymorph and Hive Mind for even more fun! or a more Eldrazi-centered green/red deck.
I pulled one of these in a fat pack. My Eldrazi deck is so happy.

This seems to me to kinda be the replacement for hypergenesis in extended because they banned it. :P

@allangeorge
It ignores the timing on a card due to card type just as hellcarver demon does, so u could cast a sorcery, but not an instant that says play only after blockers are declared because the timing restriction is not directly related to the card type

There's a lot of potential here. Because I mostly play limited I've been looking at it suspiciously (it's teeeerrible in 99% of limited decks), but if you think about it in constructed, while it does help the opponent too, hasn't this always been the case with cards such as Hypergenesis, Howling Mine, Jace Beleren and so forth? Yet they still get played for one simple reason - if you're deck is designed to take advantage of them and there's isn't, the potential upside is absolutely worth it.

There are three key points to this card:
1) It's cast, enabling on-cast effects such as those of a lot of the Eldrazi cards
2) It's from your hand - while it's random, you'll still know what cards you have the chance of playing
3) It can be anything, not just creatures - meaning it's a little more versatile than cards like Summoning Trap

There's a lot of splash potential for this card - in blue you'd get access to scry, card draw and Jace TM - Jace TM would be especially useful for filling your hand with mostly, if not entirely, cards you want to be casting. In black you'd get Liliana Vess, which would mean you can get out those cards you want to be casting. In green you get ramp in order to get out the Evocation ASAP.

What I love about the card is that the casting is mandatory. If you're up against the common UW planeswalker deck I could see it 'accidentally' killing planeswalkers by casting second copies. You make up for your card disadvantage right there. ^^

So I guess you could cast Emrakul on turn four with this. Yeah, totally:

Turn One: Forest, Birds/Elf
Turn Two: Forest/Mountain, Nest Invader, second Bird/Elf
Turn Three: Forest/Mountain, three (land) plus two (creatures) plus one (spawn) = Wild Evocation
Turn Four: hope your luck is really good, but you'll dump your hand quick enough in a deck built for this card. Then: profit!

Run a red/green deck, maybe splash blue for a bit of countermagic, but mainly See Beyond/other draw. You'd want a lot of cheap spells you can use to dump your hand, maximizing the chances of casting that ridiculous spell, be it one of the Big Three or Progenitus or whatever.

VirtueVsVice : No, the "if able" part refers to casting it if you're actually able to do so through the card itself. For example, if both players have a Leyline of Sanctity out, you won't be able to cast Blightning because it has no legal targets. Or if there's no creatures on the battlefield, you won't be able to cast Flame Slash.
If the card only let you cast instants or put lands onto the battlefield, it would cost much less. The "if able" part is redundant (if you weren't able to cast the spell, either because of a lack of targets or innate timing restrictions ala Flash Foliage, you simply wouldn't follow that part of the instruction) but many new players would get confused by being forced to ignore such an instruction.

Actually, this card can THEORETICALLY be played as early as turn 2 in a standard red deck. You just need 4 pyretic ritual.

Turn 1- Land
Turn 2- Mountain, pyretic ritual, float the three red mana, pyretic ritual, float the 4 red mana, pyretic ritual, float the 5 red mana, pyretic ritual, float the 6 red mana. Cast Wild Evocation. On your opponent's turn, cast emrakrul.
Take an extra turn
Profit!!!!!!!!

Am I the only one who looks at the blown-up art for this card and wonders why the character has a hedgehog busting out through the top of his head? http://media.wizards.com/images/magic/M11/WP_M11_e2588rtbdr_1280x960.jpg

Looking at the full artwork of this card makes me think it looks more fitting on a Blue card.
... Or a BlueRed card, in that case. There are almost equal amounts or red and blue hues in it; And let's not forget the resemblance that person's head has to Memory Lapse, or the chess plays in the bottom left and right corners.

The only way this card doesn't screw you over is if you run Teferi.
I pulled this at my first booster draft when I was making a RDW (I got 3rd place) and it got me owned every time I played it.

I hate how they make cards like this so expensive. If you have access to six mana, you're already at the stage where you can start playing some ridiculous bombs. Why not cut out the middleman and just play cards that end the game by themselves?

How is this red?
Tynansdtm
★★★★★ (5.0/5.0) (1 vote)
@shadmed: This card is red because it's random and chaotic and (flavor-wise) a gigantic, explosive waste of magic.
@rino20: You can't play counterspells with this unless you or another player offer them a valid target (i.e. an instant spell) but that doesn't matter because Emrakul can't be countered. So really, your post had exactly zero point.
@Eric1618: You still haven't explained how you plan to cast a creature on your opponent's turn. Please, share with us.

Be careful about what kind of deck you play this against, but this thing is fun and fits the flavor of red perfectly. Absolute chaos.

This card is going to go into my spell share deck. A deck designed around the idea that everyone is playing from the same 'library', and all spells effect everyone.

Eye of the Storm
Hive Mind
Knowledge Pool

Cast something, it goes into the Knowledge Pool, then floats to Eye of the Storm, then Hive mind splits it to everyone. Novelty FTW.

I love that deck idea! Throw in Galvanoth and you would have an insane good time! Two free cards a turn and you get to trigger all three of the cards you listed. So awesome...
