Almost all of your opponents' creatures will be tapped out, leaving them unable to defend themselves, when this card is in play. In a red/white Commander deck, I'd think about putting in Otherworldly Journey on the off chance that I manage to knock out Avatar of Slaughter during an opponent's attack phase.

Reality Ripple or Vodalian Illusionist could cause Avatar of Slaughter to disappear until its controller's next untap phase.

The flavor text spells out my thoughts exactly in any multiplayer game. Can't wait to drop this on my political-happy "friends."

Not much to dislike about this card. You get the be the first one to take advantage of it, it's 8 for an 8/8, and it speeds up an otherwise slow game.

Can't ask for a much more effective creature to run in an Urabrask the Hidden EDH deck.

I like it when I can't run True Conviction or going up against it. Not too fond of using it WITH that card.

It's nice because in one way, it helps even the field. If they have a bunch of guys with double strike or first strike and you take that advantage away from them (hence why i like it without/going against True Conviction), then they become less threatening. I like that it gives everything berserk and when used with Oni of Wild Places since if YOU don't want your guys to have berserk, you can bounce him back to your hand with the Oni and then play him during your post-combat main phase. A good card, an 8/8 for 8 with only two colored mana that can end games quickly or help even the field after someone drops a True Conviction or something similar.

Back in high school I had a substitute teacher named Mr. Slaughter. He was Amish. Or maybe just Amish-ish. Anyway, this guys nickname will be "Mr. Slaughter" just because of that.
Or maybe Sargent Slaughter. Muahaha.

Hmm. Play it on your first main phase to crush someone's face with double strike, or during your second main phase so that you're the only one with blockers? This card is hysterical flavor-wise but it just seems too dangerous. Anyone who doesn't like you (and nobody likes you if your general is Kaalia) will come straight at you, and you have to block (and quite possibly lose your creatures) because of double strike. Why would I WANT this?

This card is ridiculously red. No finesse, just mass chaos.

Also completely hilarious.

EVERYTHING IS FIGHT!!!

(originally posted by Magnor_Criol but I wanted to yell it too)

You may be tentative about playing this because all of your opponent's could be smart a$ses and attack you, but....

... but this this guy is a pretty good blocker and....

...... and well one unfortunate victim attacking you could lose his entire army because of incorrect combat info when you say.... fling this guy after you declare blocks.

TheMurderousKitten
☆☆☆☆☆ (0.0/5.0)
@JFM2796: Yes, technically he could take Emrakul if you were attacking and Emrakul blocked, but why would your opponent block with Emrakul? Unless of course they had no other option and would die otherwise. But if you didn't attack first, would you really want Emrakul coming at you with double strike?

You must put this on when this creature is on the field: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=egne2ZCMM_0

Man. Imagine the madness that would ensue when this card enters the field. Your opponent would have all his Llanowar Elves down and hiding like the wimps they are, and then BOOM.
ROYAL RUMBLE!

I guess it is sort of risky, and veers the control of the game from intense to bat-sh*t crazy. I'd say it's a good card to have when you have to destroy such creatures like Llanoelves or other things like that

I once had this, Akroma, Angel of Fury, Ezuri, Renegade Leader, Elvish Archdruid, and Llanowar Elf out at once.

Tapping the Archdruid to activate elfrun and my mountains to pump Akroma 3 times, I did FIFTY-SIX DAMAGE in one combat step (this was in a really casual game, and all his creatures were tapped).

@JFM2796 and TheMurderousKitten: Aren't you forgetting that Emrakul would also have double strike? During the first strike combat damage step, Emrakul will kill the Avatar, and the latter won't have a chance to deal its second 8 for the kill.

Also, this is a fun guy to Cauldron Dance into play with, oh, any other enormous, game-ending creature.

Spike Weaver allows you to stop your opponents from actually causing any damage, and since all of their creatures will be tapped out (because they're forced to attack anyway), you can swing for massive damage! Of course, other cards can enable this combo (Moat, Fog, Holy Day, etc), but most can't do it multiple times and don't have an ongoing effect.

I would've liked an alternate cost like if it's turn 10 or later, you may pay RedRed ala the other Avatars like Avatar of Woe.

Turn two killer? TURN ONE KILLER (non-Commander)

1. Mountain, {T}, {R}
2. Either: Rite of Flame: {R}{R}
2. or: discard Simian Spirit Guide (better in case of Mental Misstep): {R}{R}
3. Desperate Ritual/Pyretic Ritual: {R}{R}{R}
4. Seething Song: {R}{R}{R}{R}{R}
5. Reverberate/Fork on Seething Song: {R}{R}{R}{R}{R}{R}{R}{R}
6. Geosurge: {R}{R}{R}{R} + {R}{R}{R}{R}{R}{R}{R} for creatures/artifacts only
7. Wheel of Fortune: Draw 7 new cards. Still {R} + {R}{R}{R}{R}{R}{R}{R} in pool.

Use further mana accel to get {R}{R}{R} + {R}{R}{R}{R}{R}{R}{R} (e.g., 2nd Rite of Flame)

{R}{R}{R}{R}{R}{R}{R}{R}: Avatar of Slaughter
{R}: Mark of Fury/Mass Hysteria/Need for Speed
{R}: Furor of the Bitten

Attack for 20.

Man, when this shit drops, all bets are OFF. Strategy dies, planning dies, diplomacy goes out the window. Utter chaos in 3-7 player EDH, and man, you have to see what this thing did to 10 player in the late game after everyone had spent their removal. (Technically it was only 8 players by then but still.)

4/5.

This game isn't bloody enough yet. In response to your Avatar of Slaugter, I'm going to Bazaar Trader you my Inquisitor's Flail. If I'm going to lose, I'm taking EVERYONE else with me.

If it was MY Avatar of Slaughter though....I'd play Terror of Kruin Pass, and Xenograft, naming Werewolves. That's sounds like ALMOST enough overkill. Except that you can never have enough Overkill.

EDIT: Wow. JUST woooow.........You know what's more broken than this guy?!

THIS GUY. WITH CAN HAZ FLYING. FOR ZERO MANA.

Gisela, Blade of Goldnight, congrats you just made Kaalia of the Vast a lesbian :p

Trygon_Predator
☆☆☆☆☆ (0.0/5.0)
@DarthParallax: Gisela, Blade of Goldnight isn't strictly better though. She's got 3 less P/T, is RedWhite (non-monocolored casting costs are usually seen as a drawback), and she's legendary (so you can't make hundreds of her somehow if you wanted to).
Of course, if you're playing Kaalia of the Vast, why not run both? The Avatar's main drawback is that it isn't an Angel, Demon, or Dragon.

@Lord_of_Tresserhorn
too bad by the time you could use the mana from seething song to cast reverberate, seething song is no longer a valid target for reverberate because it will have resolved. you can only use a reverberate effect on a spell that is on the stack. and good luck drawing that exact god hand pretty much ever, let alone anywhere near consistently

The turn after you cast this, if you and the avatar are still alive by then, cast Sunblast Angel. Or Insurrection. Insurrection works too.

This guy has earned himself a permanent spot in my reanimator deck after I managed to reanimate him turn 1, followed by Elesh Norn on turn 2 allowing him to single-handedly kill the opponent on turn 2. Said opponent went through the roof. :3

The grand finale for my W/R deck involves having at least two lightmine fields out (out of a possible 4 in the deck) and then dropping this fellow after my own combat faze once several creatures have populated the field. I let everyone reek havoc on each other and then mop up whatever's left.

I love this card. While I don't run pure beatdown decks generally and don't really identify with red's lust for combat and hot-headedness (although I do like red cards in general) I still like the flavor text. The art is incredible and the name is awesome. Is it bad if I put him in my multiplayer Politics deck as my finisher? Not because my opponents want me alive and it on the field to get double strike with. I mean to literally finish them with a card whose flavor text states that, "Diplomacy has solved nothing" in a deck revolving purely around procuring favorable diplomatic relationships.

An 8/8 double strike that gives your army doublestrike for 8. That right there can end some games with a bit of help from haste.

It also forces your opponents to attack next turn. Drop this on your second main phase and keep your army untapped. Now everyone has to attack each other or they run into your well prepared army with a nice 8/8 avatar of slaughter guardian. And then when it is your turn again, besides fresh summons your opponents will be defenseless for the kill.

The major drawback is giving your opponents armys doublestrike. But Avatar of Slaughter should be able to rule the ground and deter most ground forces from coming at you, or risk being diced up. Pair this up with an efficient flyer and you should be golden.

Aurelia, the Warleader. Everything attacks four times each turn and, if you're inclined to become my favourite target for Door to Nothingness, MindSlaver and the Lich's Mirror/Donate combo, means you can keep some creatures as defenders since they've already attacked this turn during the second combat phase.

Yes, you read that right. Combine two cards that let you attack more... To be a ninny.
