They should have just rolled with it and let it not be an artifact.

R&D: Are you done with the printings of the cards?
Angry German Kid: NOOOOOOOOOO!!! x0AXOa0xoA0XOa0xoA0OXa0o!!! None will notice! Just as I did with Mindless Null!!! Muhahahahahaa!!!

Embarrassing printing issue aside, this is pretty cheap and efficient permanent mana acceleration in colorless, with the main drawback being intense fragility. If you can keep it alive it's good even before taking into account landfall.

So, I guess any hope for quality control down at Wizards is gone now, hmm?

This plus Tideforce Elemental equals infinite land plays per turn. One Treasure Hunt you have all the land in your deck in play, and hopefully a big fatty in hand.

I really like this card, mostly for the typo. It reminds me of an Alpha card just for that. It's kind of cool.

At first when I saw this card I got all excited because I thought it was a harbinger of the colorless-but-not-artifact Eldrazi cards that Wizards hinted at for the next set. Then I realized it was just a typo :(.

This has a nice effect, actually. Almost exclusively in this block, but still. S'cheap too. Due to the printing error, I'll actually bet that this card winds up worth a lot, or at least more than usual.

The guy is just a bad rampant growth. Both allow you to have an additional land in play the turn after you play them. However, the atlas needs to survive a turn, and dies to everything. You just need to throw a cottonball on him and he collapses in panic. Also the atlas only works if you have more than two lands on your hand, once he survived a turn. And another bonus of rampant growth: you can search for any basic land you like, getting the mana you need most. This guy just takes whatever you have on your hand, IF you have two or more lands on your hand.

He's crap.

Aside from Ichorix, nobody else seems to get that this "accident" (for it quite possibly might not be one) was made only because the Eldrazi are going to be colorless NON-artifact spells. This could be a cleverly placed clue instead of poor editing.
Look out for colorless spells like this in the future. And I'm talking noncreature colorless spells. Look at Ghostfire, then its flavor text, then the Eye of Ugin mythic rare card. I think we're about to see another future sight card meet its "first" printing.

Majinara, you might want to take his colorlessness into consideration; he can give mana accel to colors that don't have Ramp growths!

Compare: Skyshroud Ranger. Ranger is one cheaper, but as sorcery and green. For landfall, you're playing green anyway, and the extra speed matters; more chance of having that extra land in your hand. You miss the uncertainty value of a possible instant-speed land, though.
For non-landfall, not many decks would have a lot of excess land. Maybe useful for some blue decks, or with Ad Nauseam

I hope they reprint this in core sets. That also might make the worldwake misprints worth something (doubt it)

better than skyshroud ranger because with landfall abilities you can you use them in defense and any colour better than rampant growth because its any land and you can do twice etc

@Majinara:
You do realize that Rampant Growth isn't the only "search for a land" card in the game, right? I did a search and counted 27 cards that only let you put cards from your library into your hand; wouldn't the ability to play that extra land without having to wait a turn be good, especially since it won't be tapped like most of the "put it onto the battlefield" effects would do?

@Majinara Just think of him with Valakut, being able to lightning bolt your opponent without actually having to use Lightning bolt? Its a great card, you just have to use it right.

Its tap ability might as well read, "You may play lands during your opponent's turn. If a land under your control would come into play tapped, it doesn't."

You could also surprise someone by casting something like Vines of Vastwood at instant speed when you appear all tapped out.

I've been combo-ing with Vapor Snare and Halimar Depths, tapping to play between upkeep and draw, means deck filtering every turn.

@ JordPWN
u might wanna use selective memory before your treasure hunt and a landfall creature that gets boosts..then make sure u dont have a next turn (unless u dont exile 1 nonland card in ur deck or course)

edit: im surprised no one said that this is the new Sakura-Tribe Scout (cmc becoming 2 to make it playable in any deck)

What possessed Wizards to print this in colorless? Green has fairly exclusive access to this sort of thing for a reason.

@Black_Mantha - the best of these guys is actually Sakura-Tribe Scout, which lets you do it instant speed too.
Still, for those that want mana-accel without playing Green, this is pretty good.

Good if your deck draws lots of cards and ends up discarding them otherwise. Playing extra lands per turn is one of my favorite versions of mana accel for this reason.

This guy works with so many combos... Hedron crab, admonition angel and the other landfall cards are obvious but it also opens a window to other cards...

Khalni Gem is great with this. Play the gem first thing, then replay one land reg and one with the atlas. Or deprive so you have a no-downside old-school counterspell again.

And of course he's good for those other instant landfall spells. And using expeditions map or something to great effect on your opponents turn.

This is hilarious so real quick @majinara. You should probably reconsider ever posting on this site again if youre going to be so unbelievably one dimensional when you use your brain... This is just like your infiltration lens post, you make overly quick judgments based on situational scenarios that are completely incorrect and poorly thought out. Actually you should consider dropping magic altogether id you can't see that this card has a LOT of situational worth, but to give this card a 1/5 cuz youre sad its a 1/1 and you don't understand how it works is very juvenile. Use your head buddy.

@ majinara

Why, if this card is so bad, would the opponent use a kill spell on it, that argument is completely counter intuitive.

"Dies to Doom Blade"?

Turn 3, and after, it doubles the amount of mana you can put down, just like Exploration which is a horrible card, obviously.

Turn 3, and later, is the reason why its not even close to good as Exploration, but this card can do it during your opponent's turn, ya know, to enable landfall? Which is a powerful ability?

Its worse than Exploration for mana ramp, but its a 1/1 for 2, which, as I have noticed, is nice. Sometimes you need to add some small damage in there. Stuff happens, sometimes you wanna just attack with it to add some points of damage. But all in all, can make Landfall abilities close to permanent.

I say 3.5 without landfall, 4 with.

This is a very nice card. A way to lay more than one land per turn without having to play Green.
Just put Freed from the real when playing with Blue and yes you could use Treasure hunt with it.

I will be putting this in my Sideboard just incase.

Good card. Cool misprint.

@Majinara
A few reasons this is better than Rampant Growth:

A. He's colorless
B. You can use his ability many times.
C. The land doesn't have to be basic.
D The land doesn't come into play tapped.
E. His ability is instant speed (I don't know if it matters).
F. If you don't need a land he can attack.

Wow Majinara you need to reread the card.

IMO They should leave it as a non-artifact creature instead of trying to get everyone to know that it was meant to be an artifact. It's only been printed the one time with the mistake and with the eldrazi out it's not like it's the first colorless non-artifact creature. That's what they did with rancor, except this still wouldn't be broken.

There's one word omitted from this card that makes it awesome, and it's not "artifact". It's "basic". This will speed up the process of dropping the Deserted Temples I transmuted and tutored for to untap my Tolarian Academy.

It feels particularly appropriate that wizards had this misprint literally immediately before the first set with colorless nonartifact creatures.

@majinara
After seeing some of your posts, I am beginning to question if you actually play Magic.

Rampant Growth is 1G, grabbing any basic from your deck to play tapped.

This guys is 2 colorless, comes with a 1/1 body (equipment, overrun), is an artifact (metalcraft, affinity), and puts any number of lands from your hand into play.

Your statement would ring true if there weren't a reliable way of getting cards to your hand. This guy would be useful if things like any of the following existed (in no particular order):
Drawing cards:
Ancestral Recall
Thoughtcast
Meditate
Necropotence
Yawgmoth's Bargain
Treasure Hunt
Getting cards back from the graveyard:
Praetor's Grasp
Grim Discovery
Fetching lands from the library to hand:
Sprouting Vines
Cultivate
Kodama's Reach
Yavimaya Elder

And if only there were a way to remove summoning sickness from him (like, anything that gives haste), he could drop a land when he comes out.

But wait, there's more! If things like Voltaic Key or Galvanic Key or Clock of Omens or Unwinding Clock or Seedborn Muse existed, you could even drop more than one land with him every turn (and every opponent's turn in the case of the Clock and Muse).

Yes, he dies to removal, but so does every other bloody permanent in the game. But if your opponent wastes a Doom Blade on this guy, congratulations! Your opponent just wasted a kill spell on your ramp creature!

TL;DR
Go play a game of Magic, and then a few hundred more and broaden your horizons... then come back and post on Gatherer about your experiences.

Fragile as hell, but being able to put any land - basic or not - onto the battlefield, and untapped too, for 2 is pretty damn cool.

Diplomatic Immunity it for lols - then it, and Diplomatic Immunity, can only be removed by boardwipe since they both will have shroud. :D
