King of landfall I bow to you and all your loads of lands that are creatures.

You need a way to manipulate the top cards of your library; otherwise it's too risky, and you may end up spending 2 mana to draw 1 card. However, with stuff like jace's brainstorm (or even his +2 ability), the new blue land that lets you rearrange 3 cards, it can easily turn 2 mana into a 3-4+ card draw.

The most powerful common in the set IMO. Imagine this in 43land.dec or with Seismic Assault. Personally, I predict a standard form of 43 land will emerge because of this card.

There's alot of good top 3 manipulation in standard right now so I really like this as a draw if you set up for it.

Part of my a deck I'm putting together with Selective Memory and Hedron Crab. If done right, with the help of a few other cards, you can win that turn with infinite mill. Pretty sweet.

This is definitely one of the best drawing spells to come from Wizards in quite a while. It does take some deck stacking, but any resourceful player can do that easily.

You can draw a Land or two Lands ! Yay !
Is this is some kind of sick joke ? it's not even drawing !
Brainstorm, Acumulated Knowledge or Fact or Fiction are good draw spells ! not this !

But I guess it can be used in Seismic ***ault decks...

Scouting Trek is the easiest combo I can think to break this, with Seismic Assault being the win con. It's an interesting new draw spell, and better than just another expensive sorcery with a fixed amount of draw.

i haven't seen anyone mention it, so i'll throw it out there. This + stuff to play additional lands (such as walking atlas) + the animate lands could make for a really interesting deck. With only a few non-land cards in your deck, you could blow up your opponent pretty quickly with just lands.

Celestial Colonnade
Creeping Tar Pit
Lavaclaw reaches
Raging Ravine
Stirring wildwood

Probably won't make tournament quality with this, but it'd be a really fun casual deck

Does this count as card drawing? eg, would it effect lorescale coatl/underworld dreams/runeflare trap etc? i'm guessing no as there is no keyword 'draw' in the rules text.

Perfect card. But I still can't decide if it should have been green. Sure, it's perfect with Ponder, Brainstorm and so on, but it feels so instinctive. "Reveal the top card..." is so green flavored in my opinion... But still a wonderful card. Combines well with Scouting Trek which feels more blue-ish since it's a search and put it on top effect.

Using the Geometric distribution, we can approximate the number of cards Treasure Hunt will draw. Assuming a sixty card deck, then the approximate expected value of the number of cards you will draw is 1/p, where p is the probability that you stop drawing, or about 1 - (# of lands)/60. While this isn't exactly the true expected value, it's close enough to make a decision.

Lands / Expected # of cards
22 / 1.58
23 / 1.62
24 / 1.67
25 / 1.71
26 / 1.76
27 / 1.82

Is 1Blue too much to draw between 1 and 2 cards most of the time? I'll have to go with Ponder on this one.

And if you really do go the five-color way with this, and Seismic Assault someone, it could combo nicely into a very powerful Knight of the Reliquary.

ahahaha! just tore apart a $70+ exalted deck with 4 of these,
4 zombie infestation, 26 islands, and 26 swamps.
Thirty-Four 2/2 zombies on turn 3 for the win.

I like using Spy Network or Halimar Depths to set it up, but even by its lonesome it's not bad, since you're guaranteed to hit your next spell. Needs less setup late in the game, since you don't care as much about land.

Could be pretty good in claśśic pauper, what with this being a common. Cast a Brainstorm, and put two lands back on top of your deck. Then cast this, which will net you at least three cards. In standard non-pauper I suppose that using Jace, the Mind Sculptor's brainstorm would work too.

Decent card on it's own, but in a deck built around it like iantewks described, (and I'm sure there are others), this card can make for some pretty nasty early wins.

If you can get at least two cards from this, you got your mana's worth.

The interesting thing about this, to me, is not exactly the number of cards drawn. It's the quality. In the early game, you can play this to grab up to N lands, where N is the number of lands left in your deck. This will, of course, help you hit your land drops as well as thin your deck. In the late game, you can play this to draw cards without the risk of drawing into nothing but land.

FunkyMo109's analysis shows us that it's not the best card draw spell in terms of raw quantity of cards under normal circumstances, but it always draws exactly one nonland card. I can see myself using it.

Divination draws you 2 cards for 3 mana. On average this draws you something like 1.75 cards for 2 mana. It's already better than Divination. Then you have halimar depths, which basically turns treasure hunt into a guaranteed divination, always, and quite often a sorcery-speed ancestral recall for one more mana. Then you have Jace, The Mind Sculptor, who basically turns this into drawing 3,4, 5 cards? It turns Jace's brainstorm into ancestral recall. Brainstorm is already the best card in legacy! Even if you have nothing to do with your surplus land, you are still drawing through dead cards you would have had to draw anyway, making Jace's next brainstorm even more superpowered. Really amazing. 5/5, all the way.

FunkyMo's analysis may be correct, but fact is you can't draw 1.67 cards. Personally, I find myself very often drawing at least 3 cards from this thing. Even better yet, while AR might draw you three lands for 1 mana, this one always gets you some action. Plus, I once got five cards out of one of these on turn five. That was pretty awesome. :P

I dont understand why eveyone compares this card to just standard play. THIS CARDS OWNS IN 43LANDS PERIOD. In 43lands it can net you 4-5 cards everytime. This cards just made 43lands a guranteed teir 1 legacy deck. It will never be completley broken due to the fact it may not net you exactly what you want but when I cut out intuition and put in this card it definatley deserves a 5. Open your eyes there is more then just standard tourneys out there.

My original idea was to combo this with Sickening Dreams. Turn 4, everybody dies! Game ends in tie.
But now I think I'll throw in the Zombie Infestation in order to actually win.

Also, Battle of Wit's deck may be able to use only this with 250 lands or so. A bit of a gamble but if you are playing battle of Wit's you must be a gambler anyway.

I also just thought about making an EDH out of this combo. ROTFL!

Selective Memory. They're even in the same set.

And what do you do with all those lands?

@FunkyMo109:
It's not just that. If you draw two or more cards, one of them will have to be a land. It's a guaranteed non-land draw at minimum but dragged down by the fact that it has to be revealed.

4 treasure hunt, 2-4 laboratory maniac, 2-4 selective memory, then counter/bounce and card draw for what should be a decently quick and fun casual legacy win.

Actually, I used to hate this card, but I've come around on it a bit. The real value is that at worst it's a cantrip for 2 at sorcery speed, which, yeah, is pretty terrible. But you know you'll always draw down to a card that does something. If there's a nasty land pocket, it will draw you right through, so you know that if it does just cantrip, it will be cantripping into an action card. Drawing into 2-3 lands and then replacing itself is an added bonus.

I once had a deck that ran 4 Selective Memory, 4 Seismic Assault, 4 of these, and some other combo enablers. Turn 3 I'd play the assault, turn 4 exile every non-land card, and turn 5 draw the 38 or so lands left.

It wasn't very good, but damn, it was fun.

I think you're all missing the fact that this is a digging spell that guarantees you a non-land card and sometimes a couple lands. If you have a deck that has problems with mana pockets, this is so much stronger than a lot of draw out there.

Nobody has mentioned Nantuko Cultivator.

Actually I remember opening a Cultivator back in the day and trying to figure out how I could break it. I think I just did!

One of the best parts about this is it doesn't actually draw you the cards, you put them into your hand >:)
