This can get pretty strong with Vesuva or shapeshifer's in play

you got this only affected by vesuva as changling only affects creature not lands just so you know
do not put rulings on a card if you dont know what you are talking about

Four Cloudposts will get you 16 mana. If you manage to get out Vesuva, these can get insane. Even with only two, you get double the mana you would normally, albeit colorless, and with the penalty that they come into play tapped. Even still, they are strong lands.

He meant shapeshifter i.e. duplicant, because its colorless mana.. not because it affects lands.

Ah, cloud post.. bane of my creature deck's existence.. it wouldn't have been so bad if it said something like.. if you have another cloud post in play this land produces +1 colorless mana so that it would only be 2 per land at max. Unfortunately between cloud posts and vesuvas instead it turns into playing darksteel colossus on turn 5, or a fast master transmuter into a sphinx of the steel wind. Mirrodin made artifacts so nuts it seems like they have been making up for it for the past few sets by not printing very many. I mean.. seriously, isochron scepter, lightning greaves, duplicant, and loxodon warhammer all in the same set?

Having said all that, best card for artifacts decks you could want, makes just about anything castable when you have only 2 out.

After seeing 2 hits of Locus in the worldwake orb, I invested $2 into a playset of these. Only time will tell if that 2 dollar investment will pay off.

Cloudpost = god

I run 4 cloudposts and 4 vesuva in my modular deck, no such thing as OOM

@ Donovan_Fabian: what are you talking about? You can run four in a deck which means you can have one producing 4 colorless and all 4 producing a total of 16. Combo with four Vesuva to get 8 colorless per tap, and 64 total. Also if you're running these in a deck with a splash of blue then you can combo with Mistform Wakecaster use 2nd ability and get even more. Basically this card owns especially because of the new emergence of colorless eldrazi. Also if you aren't too big on using fat creatures then you can just do the same thing, get a splash of red and Blaze or Fireball or Comet Storm for an insta-win. Or if you're a green user, Stream of Life. No doubt that this card has other uses that i haven't thought of and even with the ones that i've just listed i think it still deserves the 5/5.

@Grimjaw
That's VERY situational, how often are you going to get four of these in the first 5 turns?
Also, why would you ever play Draco?
None-the-less, I prefer this to Eye of Ugin if it's not in limited. I'd still run some for the tutoring ability.

Having 4 of THIS and a Vesuva can result in a turn 4 Spawnsire of Ulamog and a turn 5 second Spawnsire ability!!!

Cloudpost makes a completely colorless deck happy.

Another locus (Glimmerpost) is being printed in Scars of Mirrodin.

If you have 4 of these, 4 Glimmerposts, and 4 Vesuva copies of these... Each of these would tap for 12, so that's 96 for all 8 Cloudposts. And another 4 for the Glimmerposts. 12 lands tapping for 100 mana? Yeah, sure, it's colorless, but it's also 100 mana.

Ok people, listen up very carefully: you can't change a creature's type to Locus because Locus is not a creature type, it's a land type!

Great card, and I love the flavor text. Really evokes the mystery that was inherent to the beginning of the Mirrodin storyline.

its too bad this isnt comming back in Scars... or is it... well Mirrodin Besieged and "Action" have yet to be released/previewed so if it does comeback then Glimmerpost with have good friends, 4th Glimmerpost gain 9 life get 32 mana for your cloudposts and along with 4 more Vesuva = holy crap you just got all 3 drazi out in one turn =O
(
4 cloudposts
4 glimmerpost
4 Vesuva
if Vesuva becomes a locus then you get 12 mana per cloudpost and Vesuva so you would get up to 12 life and get 96 mana in one turn you then proceed to summon what ever fits your fancy.

His ability is not limited to the Locus you control. That means it could become crazy in a multiplayer game where everyone uses Locus lands :D

no single land should have this kind of power. With Vesuva and Glimmerpost, you are making 96 mana. fireball.

Okay, so if you have Amoeboid Changeling out, or any other changeling (or mistform card), could you count that as a lotus? I know the locus isn't marked as a creature type, but it's every type out there. And, sooner or later, there will be locus creatures.

Awesome combo!

4 Cloudpost + 4 Glimmerpost + 4 Vesuva for 100 colorless mana, then use Mox Lotus for one mana of ANY COLOR!

My deck runs 4 Cloudpost, 4 Vesuva, and a Mycosynth Lattice Then, instead of 64 colorless mana, I have 64 (Red, White, Blue, Black, Green in any combo) land! So you want Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker out turn 4 with 8 spare mana of any color in reserve for creatures, well you got it.
So, ideally it would go like so:
Turn 1: Cloudpost
Turn 2: Amulet of Vigor , then Cloudpost or Vesuva, tap for 2 Everflowing Chalice kicked 1 time
Turn 3: Cloudpost or Vesuva, Mycosynth Lattice
Turn 4: Cloudpost or Vesuva, Tooth and Nail for 9 searching for Emrakul, the Aeons Torn and Blightsteel Colossus, and you still have enough for a planeswalker such as Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker, or just burn with something like Comet Storm

I am in awe that these lands only cost 70 cents at my card shop. I would have easily paid 3 bucks each for these babies!

With some Expedition Maps and Glimmerposts, things can turn very ugly in a few turns.

For a colorless deck this card is a must along with its glimmerpost counterpart. And with a blue deck you could use a xenograft to make all your creatures Locus subtyped. Then you would have semi-limitless mana. EPIC

Note, that having 12 Posts/Locii would probably actualy have been fair if we didn't have Amulet of Vigor. I think. Coming into play tapped is the last thing a fast combo deck wants it's lands to do. Not being able to play anything the first 3 turns of the game is not a good strategy.

This card is really a bit broken. All you need is a way to fetch up a few, which isn't hard to do, then you get 10 drops on turn 5.

Banned in Modern.

Yet 8 post is still legal in pauper, and there are fewer decks to punish you for doing nothing in first few turns. And there is indeed somewhat broken things you can do with tons of mana in pauper....

But I guess I'm the only person thinking this (and Empty the Warrens) should have something done about them.

Turn all lands into creatures via one of the many effects that does so, then play Mirrorweave. Proceed to collect obscene amounts of mana.

I run 4 of these and 4 Glimmerposts in my casual artifact deck. It's a total beast, even if you get a starting hand with just a single cloudpost you know you're golden. It's always such a blast to hard-cast Blightsteel Colossus on turn 4 or 5. And Darksteel Colossus on the next.

You should probably run forests and crop rotations if you are depending on this.
Personally, I prefer Urza's Tower and friends due to the fact that they come into play untapped.

@runner220: Locus is not a creature subtype, so that would not work. However you might want to look at LordRandomness' Mirrorweave idea.

I don't think this card is as over powered as people think, it comes into play tapped so you can't do anything with it turn one, and on turn two you only have two mana to spend any ways, even if you are lucky enough to get Amulet of Vigor in your opening hand. compared to other mana ramp it actually lacks. and are you really going to run 4 amulet of vigor? and even then you might not get it, so what do you do run search cards? well now even more cards in you deck don't do anything. also this is assuming you get all of your cloudposts and vesuvas on que, which is unlikely and there is only a small number of cards you can use to search for them, and only one of them isn't green. so what are you going to do? run more search cards? run mana fixing to play green spells? or you could just go mono green and play all your eldrazi just as quick but more reliably.

Ugh, these on their own were ok, if not a slightly tricky way to generate colorless mana due to coming in tapped and needing multiples to get ahead. Vesuva made it much better. Glimmerpost put it into the category of quite viable. And now Thespian's Stage has just made it silly. 16 post? It was fine at 8, good at 12, and now is ridiculous at 16.

For the record, if you were to have all 16 Locus-able lands out, you'd be able to generate 196 mana. Just from lands. Absurd! With a Glimmerpost and 3 'Cloudposts' out, that's 13 mana on turn 4. Turn 4 hard cast Ulamog from lands alone. >.>

For a normal 16 post build... 4x Cloudpost, 4x Glimmerpost, 4x Vesuva and 4x Thespian's Stage. Leaving ~8 or so other lands up to you; Deserted Temple is pretty good in that if you have a Cloudpost generating at least 3 mana, Deserted Temple will ultimately tap for 2. For the other 4 - plenty of options. Reliquary Tower for hand size, Wasteland for land destruction, Tower of the Magistrate to deal with equipment/artifacts, and so on.

@kulosle
You're joking, right? This card isn't that powerful? It allows for 16 mana drop on turn 4 with Amulet of Vigor or additional land drops on turn 3 or earlier. It's insanely powerful. It's as broken as someone putting out a land, Sol Ring, Mana Vault on turn 1. No one should have that easy of access to mana that early. It ruins games by trivializing them. Understandably some people like to circle jerk with their combos and they need things like this to enable them. That's fine I suppose -- some people play better with easy mode turned on.

A history of Cloudpost and its ease of use over time:

Cloudpost - Mirrodin - Oct 2003
Vesuva - Time Spiral - Oct 2006
Expedition Map - Zendikar - Oct 2009
Glimmerpost - Scars of Mirrodin - Oct 2010
Thespian's Stage - Gatecrash - Feb 2013
