so easy to break... Basilisk Collar (from worldwake) to give it deathtouch and lifelink, then blessing of leeches (from betrayers of Kamigawa) to make it regenerate for free at the cost of 1 life a turn which you should get back with some heavy interest...just hope you splashed blue or found a way to give everything shroud cause pull that kind of shit and they will just blam the creature or if their smart the blessing of leeches enchantment

I enjoy the idea of these large creatures getting the powers of popular and powerful enchantments. Kind of like our other friend Butcher of Malakir. Both are great EDH creatures.

For a triple black cost i'd have prefered him to be 7/7, but a huge flying Pestilence on legs is still not that bad nontheless. The advantage compared to Thrashing Wumpus is that you can also destroy fatties with a toughness up to five without losing the demon.
But i wouldn't try that much to combo around with CMC8 creatures. Trying to give it a Basilisk Collar or similar isn't worth it, i'd use something like the aforementioned Wumpus instead for that.
The fact that, like Pestilence, it deals damage instead of giving -0/-1 and it is a creature means you can do some awesome things by giving it lifelink or somehow giving it deathtouch and protection from black.

I really like it, despite its huge cost. Just be careful when you give it a Basilisk Collar, because it does give itself the 1 damage, too, so Blessing of Leeches or some kind of other card that gives it regenerate or indestructible would be a good idea. Eldrazi Monument anyone?

This guy is a bombshell in limited, but probably won't see much Type-II constructed play, as his cost is so far above the curve, and since mono-black has precisely one accelerator (Nirkana Revenant), which costs six mana and dies to creature-kill (although you could pump half of each Swamp's mana into each activated ability to keep the Revenant alive). However, I'd love to see him in casual with Loxodon Warhammer or Vampiric Link, along with traditional black mana-ramp into him, and maybe some Eldrazi Spawn for good measure.
You guys are nuckin futs. Lifelink? Basilisk Collar? Lifelink is just crappy in general and strictly worse than Spirit Link, and Basilisk Collar would kill him, so you guys are trying to figure out crazy ways to keep him alive from deathtouch.
He can do it 5 times a turn effectively and as soon as he hits the board(if for some ridiculous reason you have left over B), and that will kill most things anyway. He can even go that extra B and do 6, killing himself as well. This is a great and cool card. Costs 8? Boo hoo. Dark Ritual, Cabal Coffers, Black Market. Black has great mana ramps. Especially Black Market with this guy.
I tend to agree.
Combined with awesome art, and a very good card, this is one of my favorites. (Thanks RoE mana ramp so i can play him).

I like hellcarver better. And I say this having played both numerous times. Mostly just because I enjoyed dropping a hellkite overlord+sarkhan the mad and doing 14 damage w/ opponent mid-scoop
not to say he isn't good though, he's great, he's awesome he's a flying pestilence. Doesn't need deathtouch, seems like there's a nice toughness cutoff at 4 In RotE ( especially for white ) doesn't need lifelink, your gonna win half the time regardless, you just massacred your enemy and ALL his chump blockers. Not to mention the follow-ups with a opening like that and 8 mana floating around.

A very useful demon card,there is no nasty side affect,it has great power and toughness 7/6,and the illistration looks bad-ass.
This guy is good if you want to keep him alive to clear the board each turn and use him as a beat down - which isn't a bad strategy in a reanimation deck. If you want to go the Basilisk Collar route, Crypt Rats are much more efficient.
If you must go with Basilisk Collar, give him Magebane Armor as well.

Look, something else that breaks Basilisk Collar... And they are even from the same block. Deathtouch in general (Virulent Swipe) works well with him, but you have to go all out that turn, as he will die as well. Darksteel Plate would be a nice addition to him, even without the deathtouch.

This card could become hilariously silly when combined wih the new extort ability....as far as i am concerned....with the right hand in my orzhov deck in multiplayer games i can easily get to 60+ life.....wich then means you have enough health to go around for using his abilities to kill your opponents. Death by demonic pokes!

@ Arnes_Moonwalker: Are you sure you have read the "Extort" ability correctly? It only interacts with Pestilence Demon the first time you cast it and triggers when you cast cards ... it doesn''t interact with the Demons Pestilence-type ability or other abilities. ;)

Why is everyone talking about death-touch with this guy? If you have 8 manna you've got enough to kill just about anything with his ability normally anyway. What you want is Lifelink. You gain life for every other creature, and each opponent. Rite of Passage certainly isn't bad either, but the best option is, of course, Charisma which makes him read "B: take control of all creatures."

One of if not the best Demon out there since this thing doesn't have some prohibitively costly restriction that cripples it and me every time I play it.
It's almost like a decent low-cost angel - it is something we all dream about but never really get the opertunity to see.
