The artwork combined with its effect are spectacular together. I can't wait to see this card turn around a game or finish it off in a pleasing display.

For 6 mana, and being an aura, and having 3 of it's cost be one color, this card should really do more. It's win more-risk more. At least should have given flying or Intimidate, or Shroud, or something.

I wish this was an equipment instead. It's just that Enchantments are so easy to get rid of anymore. Still, this + Felidar Sovereign is not a bad combo at all.

Wow, a Beacon of Immortality on steroids. And for practically the same converted mana cost! What more could a life-gain deck ask for???

6 CMC for an Aura is pretty steep to me. I'd rather get rid of the +3/+3 and just have the other ability for a lower CMC.

which order would this stack with lifelink? Im currently running a black/white deck with my friends (Divinity of Pride, Deathbringer Liege, etc) and this paired with Boon Reflection, Sanguine Bond, and maybe Tainted Sigil could be absolutely devastating

I want a ruling on if this is a 'life gain' effect or not. If so you could increase your life count even further with Boon Reflection.

celestial mantle + felidar sovereign, but any card doubling your life total isn't going to hurt. Sanguine bond + 5 power creature with lifelink damaging opponent can be an instant win. The mana cost may be steep at 6, but it can win the game easily if your creature has double strike or trample. Its always true the creature may get removed.. but lets be honest every creature can be removed or killed somehow, thats like saying never play a creature again because it can be exiled with Unmake, if you're really worried about it enchant a black creature with toughness 4 and up and it will be immune to most removal such as oona. I'll be adding one of these to my deck.

Note it has to be -combat- damage, so you can't double your life total with soul's fire, mage slayer, or psionic gift.

If you get this in a draft, there are a few cards you can use that will significantly increase your amount of unblocked attacks. Surrakar Marauder (B Landfall-Intimidate), Cliff Threader (R Mountainwalk), River Boa (G Islandwalk Regenerate), Baloth Woodcrasher (G Landfall-Trample), Nimbus Wings (W Aura-Flying). Also try and get some Narrow Escapes so you can pull it back to your hand if you're going to lose the creature.

No not really. This was expect of an enchantment. I mean it frigin doubles your life total. Beacon of Immortality if you just want instant gratification for yourself. But this card when used properly with cards like rebuff the wicked that can make a difference. Now I suggest using this in a green and white dual lands deck. Green for mana and white for life and control, or green for life and saprolings, elves, beasts etc... I run saprolings with this enchantment. COMBOS ARE ALWAYS KEY. Like the other dude said use this in white and black as well to make Sanguine bond super ultra special effective. Your creature could die but that is what white counters+ alot of other options to prevent the enchanted creature from dying.

while i would love if this could actually be played on Oros, the Avenger (yes, Oros is a benchmark for me) the 3 white mana cost means this is a mono-white exclusive. even with my luck at drawing the card i need, i rarely get 3 white mana on the board.
does this stack?

From the Zendikar FAQ:
"If a player's life total is doubled, that player actually gains or loses the necessary amount of life. For example, if the life total of the enchanted creature's controller is 14 when Celestial Mantle's triggered ability resolves, the ability causes that player to gain 14 life. Other cards that interact with life gain or life loss will interact with this effect accordingly."

I feel like there'd be a lot of good combos with that...

Beacon of Immortality is more useful than Celestial Mantle. Celestial Mantle has a 3-white mana requirement in its casting cost, which puts this practically in a mono-white deck. If the creature is eliminated, Celestial Mantle is lost as well.

Beacon of Immortality is easier to splash in a multi-color deck. If it successfully resolves, it goes back into your library.

Yes, this does count as life gain. Anything that sets your life to a certain amount means you gain/lose life to reach that point. Doubling your life means gaining life equal to your current total, so Sanguine Bond and Boon Reflection should work with this.

Hmm...this could help keep me alive longer. With plaxmanta, stonecloaker, mistmeadow witch, etc in my deck to save my enchanted creature, as well as eternal witness and hanna, ship's navigator to get back mantle, I could put some use to it. Not to mention the tap abilities I have with silkbind faerie and glare of subdual that I use to tap pretty much all of my opponents creatures, I can get a direct attack through quite easily.

Good in theory, but being an enchantment instantly greatly decreases its value. If it stays in play and you manage to trigger it though, you can combo it with a great deal of other cards. In standard alone, there're cards like Ajani Goldmane (in regards to his avatar creature), Cradle of Vitality, Sanguine Bond, and of course, Felidar Sovereign.

I wouldn't mind trying it in limited where there's much less chance of the creature being killed.

I don't get it, it just don't have enough synergy for its cost. Ok, the life gain part of this card is amazing. It just don't feel like six mana with three specific mana without an effect that actually makes posible the damage dealt. I say this because you can add +17/+17 to a card if you want but a chumo blocker as simple as drugde skeletons would be enough to stop the damage dealt.

This and Serra Avatar with Whispersilk Cloak have won me every single casual match that I've used my White/Blue deck. One time I had a 94/94 Serra Avatar at the end of the game. This also works in tournaments, especially with Ajani Goldmane's ultimate ability. Extremely good card for my uses.

Serra Avatar, yes (or Ajani's Avatar, which is the same thing), but you're missing all the fun.

Give Serra Avatar Lifelink and this. Lifelink happens first, so you gain your life total, then double it. You now have 4x the life you started with this turn. Next, play Soul's Grace. Congrats; you now have 8x the life you started with this turn. And if you're playing a Lifegain deck, this is now the God of the field. Even if you aren't, 20 * 8 = 160, so you're still the God of the Field.

The best way to give Lifelink? Why, Loxodon Warhammer, of course.

Epic art and flavor text. The card itself - being an aura it suffers from the same card disadvantage all (most... Rancor) auras suffer from. The high mana cost is also prohibitive.... I'd give it a p a s s for serious constructed use, but it could make quite a splash in your casual group.

Distortion Strike on enchanted creature. Or equip a Whispersilk Cloak on it. Plently of ways to make this fantasticly effective, but it's not gonna be fast. Which is why it's used just for casual. Fun card though.

The enchantment wouldn't go to the graveyard if it's already equipped to the creature cause it's no longer a spell targeting anything it's an aura attached to him. If the rules worked like you said it would the cloak would send itself to the graveyard.

I think my friend may be giving me this card for my BW healing deck. It would go very well in it. My life total when I used the deck again a very well made burn deck my life went from 5 to over 30 within a few turns. So I think it should work out fairly well. It also helps that the majority of my card have flying, lifelink, or both and I have cards like Armored Ascension to give the few nonflying creatures I have flying.

i'm pretty sure this doesn't work with sanguine bond.
this says "double it's controller's life total."
sanguine bond says "when you gain life."

if this said "you gain life equal to your life total" then it would work, but im pretty sure it doesn't work as is. probably have to call up WotC to double check, though.

an interesting and powerful card, but more often than not won't win you the game, just keep you alive.
mill decks don't care, and a strong enough power deck can fight over it anyway

still good, but at 6 mana, not good enough, imo

Fun fact: this card sucks. It has a lot problems; First of all is it an Aura, it's mana cost is prohibitiv, the power and toughness boost is marginal considered the cost and the risk of the card, the ability doesn't matter before you connect, you need a creature preferebly one with hexproof and some kind of evasion. When you actually connect with the enchanted creature, considering the high risk then the effect is actually marginal unless you are already on a decent amount of life (10+).

But apparently most people like it anyway, im guessing mostly for casual. Still, the card sucks and you would have better chances of winning using another card.

This is what good lifegain should be: The more life you have, the better it gets. Lifegain effects usually get less powerful the longer the game goes simply because adding a base number to a huge total doesn't make as much of an impact. R&D should make more effects similar to this if they want lifegain to gain a real foothold. My only gripe is that it's too expensive to see a lot of real competitive play, but will be a great friend on the kitchen table.

So, let's elaborate on the False Cure thing and create the stupidest instant win ever!

1) Connect with the Mantled creature
2) Mantle's ability goes on the stack
3) Quickened Donate the creature
4) False Cure
5) Collect win that would have been more easily obtained with a simple Beacon of Immortality

Best game I saw with this had one guy get to 160 life. There was me also in the game and another guy with a saproling/fungus deck. We were convinced we'd never make it.

Then saproling guy spawned a tonne of saps, cast Might of the Masses twice, and followed it with an Overwhelming Stampede for 600-odd damage to the Mantle guy and 400 to me.

Only in Casual!

Had on Rhox Faithmender, 3 player FFA. Swing at Saproling token deck, fails to block, not thinking thirty-odd life is an issue for him, even if I double it.

Instant War Report in response to "blockers being declared".

Gain 60+ life, then doubled from Rhox effect. (third person was Golem tokens....)

Combat damage: Lifelink Rhox, gain 8 total.

Celestial Mantle: Double my life total (~ 160's by now)

Rhox Faithmender effect- Doubles that.

End of Combat: ~490's life total.

Saproling deck:"Shoulda freakin blocked it."
Golem deck: Great.....
My deck: LOL. *ALWAYS* block something like that.

Golem tokens ended up beating Saproling tokens, then whittling me down to kill.

I've got a monowhite Aura deck with this guy in it. In a one on one it's next to useless, because by the time I have Battle Mastery, Spirit Mantle and this on my Kor Spiritdancer I'm already swinging for 20 unblockable, so I rarely actually get to quadruple my life total. However, in a large game where there's enough people for me to take someone out and keep playing, someone usually has removal. Still, insanely fun card, even if it's the only life gain card in your deck. 4/5.

Had to trade an arm and a leg to a friend for this card, but oh, OH so worth it. Bit expensive, but once again, worth it for the effect if you hit.
Have this card in a white green lifegain deck, and I almost never get to use it because it's either countered or destroyed immediately, which I understand completely. The worst was when my Mantle got Confiscated and then my Krond was mind controlled immediately after bringing him out.
The best, however. Hehehe... I have two Archangel of Thunes in my deck along with a pretty little Serra Avatar, Trostani, and Bower Passage. Oh, don't forget the ever wonderful True Conviction. I played Trostani and Bladed Pinions one turn, riot controlled against my friend's token deck, my turn again.
I already had one of my Archangels, Faithmender, Trostani, and Bowers with Conviction - play Avatar and have just enough mana to equip pinions to my Avatar and show off with the Mantle. Hit with unblockable Archangel from Bower Passage since Avatar had summon sickness, let my friend waste his time planning how to die most heroically, then hit with a double strike, lifelink, flying, P/T=life total (which is already ridiculous at this point) which is then doubled by Mantle and doubled again by Faithmender. It had started as a 4 player, casual game. After eliminating a black vampire deck and black/white zombie/lifegain deck, I finally bypassed my buddies massive token army, hitting him for over 600 dmg, and had he had that much life, I would have ended the game with over 1000, easily.
Ah, good times. Love this card, even though it rarely sees use in my deck. 4.5/5 for card and art.
