To answer the "do I gain life if I play it on an opponents creature" question: yes, you do gain the life, but only after the damage has been dealt. That means if you would die because by combat damage this turn, this enchant doesn't help you. All in all, this card is too weak. Most of the time the enchanted creatures will be bounced, killed, pacified or whatever, and you lose two cards (creature + enchant) to one card (removal). Also, if you slap it on a small creature, the effect ain't worth it. If you slap it on a big creature, why don't you just attack with it and win?

if the creature has an ability such as T "creature" does 1 damage to target player or creature, if he is enchanted with vampiric link does the controller gain that amount in life?

M10 rules changed so that life gain and damage dealt occur simultaneously, so this card's value went up a little.

Vampiric Link doesnt give the enchanted creature lifelink if it did it gather would show it in the details. All it does it whenever the creature deals damage you gain that much life which should also mean this stacks.

In response to Tnelis, yes you would gain life if the enchanted creature does damage from an ability. Or in any manner, not just combat damage. And with 2010 rules update this ability and lifelink are now distinct so it loses the timing advantage, but gains the ability to stack like D3STRUCTO said. So if a creature has this and lifelink or two Vampiric Links attached to it you would gain life equal to twice the amount of damage delt.

This makes for a sick combo on Oros the Avenger, Rumbling Slum, or any creature with "unlockable" or "shadow" or any creature equipped with a Mage Slayer. :D

This card is amazing for any of those black creatures that damage you as a drawback.

... This card should have an errada that says that the creature's controller gains the life; just seems so stupid as is... I was hoping when I came to this card I'd find such a thing but nope...

Same thing as Spirit Link but in black. Why is this not great? In a B/W lifegain/drain deck, you can have 8 cards with this effect (putting it on your enemy's creatures is one of the best things evar). Add in a Sanguine Bond, and shut your enemy down. I approve.

Crypt Rats. If you want to be disgustingly cruel to your playgroup, add Swarmyard.

Since the card does not contain the keyword "controller", and instead it says "you". There is a huge difference between owning and controlling. Despite an opponents creature being enchanted this still says "you." Which is logic because your opponent never took control of the enchantment, and enchanting their creature does not cause them to own this enchantment. Look up the rulings on this card it should make sense. And if the rulings don't help ask on the Wizards forums, come on people, this is pure logic!

Yes, you can put it on an opponents creature to make it stop attacking you.

@abyssalmanzero That is the absolute beauty of the card. Rather than saying the controller it says you, so even if you play it on an opponents creature you gain the life. Why would you want it any other way?

One of the best lifegains. Crazily good in pauper -- run four of these and drop some on your creatures and some on your opponents. Unless they can bounce their creatures, they won't be attacking you anytime soon. Even if they block your attackers with it, you win.

@ClowWizardEriol: What are you talking about?! This card's ability is a triggered effect. Which means, if the opponent's creature that's enchanted with vampiric link can deal you a killing blow before the ability resolves, you lose! That goes for both combat damage and directe damage (e.g. {T}: Deal one damage to target creature or player.)... especially with machine guns like hermetic study + horseshoe crab, where vampiric link's ability goes on the stack after you get pinged, and then you get pinged again and again before any of the triggers resolve.

to both chaz and tnelis: No, the controller of vampiric link is the one who gains the life. Since you cast it, you would control it unless someone played a spell to change that control (e.g. Aura Graft)

The current rules text has not been changed in simply "lifelink". Since two Spirit Links don't stack anymore after the rules change for lifelink...is this one still stacking when enchanted together with Spirit Link to the same creature?

Put this on somebody's Guttersnipe and spend the rest of the match protecting them. Put a Curiosity on them too and laugh maniacally.
This on an opponent's Boros Reckoner Kind of double your non-lifelink lifelink.

This seems like the best place to say this...
I propose that the stackable, written-out version of Lifelink be called "Spirit Link", in honour of the original card. Kind of like how some players still refer to Hexproof as "Troll Shroud".
So in summary: Lifelink = official keyword, Spirit Link = unofficial player colloquialism for old ability.
