A neat twist on Maro, though from my own experience in using the Overbeing, its almost never a powerful creature on its own and is always under the constant threat of removal. 5 for an extra card draw is okay in green but only passable in blue.

thankfully in blue you'll be drawing a hand full of disruption and card drawing to keep her alive.

With the extra draw-card, it's at least a 5/5. That kills most creatures.

TERMINATE him and let Demigod of Revenge rule all of the spirit avatars...

I'm makin a draw deck based off this card. Spellbook + Murkfiend Liege + Soul's Majesty = Pwnz.

I'd say the card isn't bad if you're playing a deck that keeps a full hand, but still does what it needs to.

Nice art, nice overall creature. Really feel like making an aggro / control deck and pack 4 of these.

Overbeing + reliquary tower + thought reflection on following turn. At least make your opponent work for it. You can play a diplomatic immunity on her as well and then just reserve cards in your hand to keep her power up. Even better if you have cards with forecast. The way to look at it is overbeing of myth is a creature version of jace beleren, you can't reach the ultimate mill 20 off library that jace has, but you also never have to let your opponent also draw a card, getting an extra card draw every upkeep plus a creature that can at least chump block if you need it too. Only problem I have with this card is that it should have been 1+ cards in hand, because if you have to use up your cards you kill the creature too. Its best to use cards to get her power up a bit that will keep her in play if you run out of cards, like murkfiend liege, jund charm, mayael's aria, or her own enchantment favor of the overbeing.

just donate a Forced Fruition after playing a spell book. for as long as your deck lasts, you will ususaly have a relly powerfull creature. just make shure you have a counterspell or two, you dont want to be found with 20 cards in hand after your spellbook has ben naturalized

I think some of you guys are underrating this card, drawing 2 cards every turn is awesome, not to mention how big this thing can get pretty quickly.

Nice with the extra draw, though it doesn't quite live up to its name. With spell book however...

She's just sort of boring, unfortunately. There's not a lot you can do with her unless you use her in a dedicated drawing deck. Bringing you up to two cards a turn isn't enough to ensure that she's big enough to either beat face or survive burn, but if the designers had made her draw you two extra cards a turn, she probably would have been overpowered. If you put her in a deck made to use her, I suppose she'd work, but she's not flexible enough to interest me.

Which is a damn shame, really, because her flavor and colors rock. 3.5/5.

so, this card is maximally 9/9 during your own turn, and 7/7 during your opponents' turn. But when you play spellbook...

Now we've got Venser's Journal, I can see ridiculous lifegain/kill combos with this. Gonna be painful.

@Mindbend Don't cast it unless you have another card in your hand? Unless you spaz out and accidentally tap your lands and drop the card, how come its a surprise that it dies after you cast it?

I wish this were legendary; how I'd love to build an EDH deck around it...

EDIT:

Edric, Spymaster of Trest - UG EDH deck based around Maro effects here we come!

@Wanderer25: I think it'd be more fun to run this in a Damia, Sage of Stone deck. It should always be a 7/7 when attacking, because you can hold your spells off until next turn. Then you can play semi-group hug with cards like Rites of Flourishing and similar draw effects. With Anvil of Bogardan, this and Multani, Maro-Sorcerer will be having Timmy grinning from ear to ear.

@Sironos: Why waste a card on Spellbook when you can run Reliquary Tower? Financially, the tower is more expensive, but not out of most player's budgets, and it's sure worth having a card that does more than just sit there when you have 7 or less cards.

A few quick tips:
- Gush gives +4/+4 for no mana cost
- Meloku, the Clouded Mirror lets you sweep your untapped land for +1/+1 and a token per land. (Sweep keyword spells aren't on-colour for some reason =/)
- Sturmgeist is Overbeings 5 through 8 if they connect. For that matter, stacking these guys is always fun.

In general, a card that returns things to your hand as a cost tends to be good. Scryb Ranger is a nice partner once you've got enough land drops, giving you pseudo-vigilance and keeping the Overbeing nice and large, with the option to return a forest on your opponent's turn as well if need be.

So beautiful. And powerful when correctly woven into a deck. Also, the owl motif makes me think that if Athena was a card she would be blue/green. Hold your breath for that Greek/Roman Mythology block.

@LordRandomness: Slight correction, Gush only gives +3/+3 since you're using one card to put four cards into your hand.
