I prefer this to Blood Baron.

Blood Baron is a win-more, this actually is a stalemate breaker for decks with a lot of lifegain.

Plus, monoblack/white guys! Hybrid rules.

blood baron isn't really comparable to this - it's not played for it's second ability, it's played for being a 4/4 lifelink with protection from Black and White

When you play an 8/8 flier with lifelink for 5 CMC in EDH, you suddenly gain a LOT of "I am dangerous." points. Not to mention, it has no protection, a serious hindrance in any multiplayer format. Want to give it haste? You'll probably want red for that, and a creature that costs White or Black
