One of the best card designs ever.

This card is a *** to play against when your opponent uses something like "copy target creature's ability" on this bastard.

How does Rumbling Slum help you at all?
"At the beginning of your upkeep, Rumbling Slum deals 1 damage to each player."

The new Worldwake cards added a card that actually makes this quite nice! Avenger of Zendikar makes it so this can take a whole lot more punishment.

This + (Pestilence/Pyrohemia) + Phyrexian Altar = Inf. mana/plants. Now all you darned hipsters can hard cast your fancy-pants Eldrazi spells.

By investing some mana into Coat of Arms, you can use any of the combos listed here for a huge army of powerful defenders. Use the RotE enchantment to cause creatures to lose flying when attacking, and then throw down something that shares a type with this, and you're in business.

Protean Hydra or Phytohydra would be my recommendations, by the way, though Phytohydra breaks the pure Green theme.

@CCGRick >> You cannot copy the triggered ability of the Sprouting Phytohydra as it's triggered not activated. Creatures like the Quicksilver Elemental can only copy activated abilities.

Needs to be played with anything that can damage your hydra anytime. Should an opponent attempt to destroy your hydra, deal damage to it as a response :D. Do the cruelty first~

This actually happened to a friend and I. As you hit this thing with pestilence, it follows the Fibonacci sequence as it re-sprouts.

When combined with Pestilence/Pyrohemia damage done multiple times in the same turn, the plants reproduce following the fibonacci sequence.

Start with 1 plant - > 1 damage makes another plant=2 -> 2 damage kills the first plant, but makes 2 more=3 -> 3 damage kills the second but makes 3 more=5 ->4 damage kills two but makes 5 more=8...

I wouldn't say infinite. More like "until someone dies", which is not a bad thing in itself assuming you're ahead on life. Considering you're playing red for Pyrohemia, a Lightning Bolt is not a far-fetched prospect.

@Xycolian: A 0/2 that can't die. Well, okay, it falls to kill spells. But still.

There's gotta be some way to use this with Wojek Embermage/Thornbite Staff...

Also, Coat of Arms and Khalni Hydra.

Ooh, brilliance: Quicksilver Gargantuan.

A fun tidbit for you math geeks: Make a table of the number of Sprouting Phytohydras you have after each activation of Pyrohemia within a single turn. Look familiar?

I have an entire deck based around this little guy. It has a total of 8 infinite combos that give me inf. life, inf. creatures with inf. power and toughness, and with Wakestone Gargoyle they can just plow everyone over. The one downside with it is that it is kind of slow so battle circles are best for it.

ooooh...also this with Aether Flash and Bitter Ordeal or Goblin Sharpshooter is amazing.

expensive, but I would say worth it, and green has many ways to gain that mana.

This in a two-headed giant where the other player had Tibor and Lumia. The pure amount of defenders produced made Vent Sentinel a real killer.
The deck has now been improved with the addition of 4 Blaze, 4 Fireball and 4 Overgrown Battlement.

Phytohydra: Ouch! Was that an acorn fired from a random catapult? Well, I'll split over this.... Wait... where did that squirrel come from?

Love using this in a modified Counterpunch deck. Not an amazing combo, but useful and quite amusing.

People don't seem to get "Combo Cards" well, I keep reading this and people call it "trash" because it has 0/2 defender and costs CMC of 5? They don't bother to look at the text at all, only "it's trash because it can't even defend"

@Garralan it's very easy to kill, actually. It dies to Path to Exile, Doom Blade, and any removal that deals no damage. The important part is to destroy it before the tokens get out of hand. Otherwise Infest, Wrath of God can do the trick.

Fun math fact I just discovered: If you use Pestilence or Pyrohemia repeatedly, starting from a single plant, the number of plants you have after each activation of the damage ability (all in a single turn) follows the Fibonacci sequence: 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, etc. The number of damaged plants you have also follows the sequence, and lags behind by two elements. In other words, if you have produced 21 plants, 8 of those would be damaged.

I'll leave the proof of this as an exercise to the reader.

Comboes with Rod of Ruin of all things.

I'd like to combo this with Aether Flash and Collective Blessing, but wouldn't the game just not be able to continue? I would HAVE to get a 3/5 Sprouting Phytohydra each time another one came in- so wouldn't I just not be able to progress to a different phase? Sure- if I have Warstorm Surge out I instantly win, but that's avoiding the problem here...
