Why do Izzet get all the pretty girls?
They must love Niv-Mizzet's huuuuuuuge... brain.

I wonder how realistic it would be to stick Basilisk Collar on this. 4/5

Cool card. I really want to flash this in on my opponent's turn and pair it with Nightshade Peddler! It may be a tough mana base, but I will find a way!

I imagine she builds up a charge by shuffling her feet on wool carpets while wearing socks.

Not sure being multicolor and uncommon should have been grounds to make her what is arguably the best hasty 3-mana pinger Wizards has ever printed... The 0/3 body is already better than what either Cunning Sparkmage or Vulshok Sorcerer get. I agree that the trickier casting cost does merit a few perks, but a sturdy frame, flash, and the "hit each creature with the same name as target creature" seems a tad over the top. I would have been fine with maybe two out of the three. That said, she's amazing, I love her, and I look forward to nuking fields worth of spirit/human tokens, as well as Arbor Elf and Llanowar Elves soon.

Izzet girls never cease to have amazing body postures. All these JoJo stances...

@DeviousPie because last time we were at Ravnica, the Izzet League was nothing but stuffy old men. All praise the new generation of Izzet!

A design home run IMO. It will feel really good flashing this in to kill the front and back of Lingering Souls in one fell swoop. Not in fully serious constructed OFC, but great casual card.

The 0/3 is probably quite carefully calculated - this pinger simply cannot hurt opponents without help, but is more solid against creatures than pretty much any Tim printed yet.

Also, Selesnya players will wish they took the time to name their newly populated tokens. Seriously, how degrading must life as a token be when your name is always the same as your siblings or, now, parents?

I found the scrapped flavour text!

Break glass in case of Squadron Hawk.

This is the best Tim variant I have ever seen. This thing single handedly destroys token decks, and can definitely hang in there with other pingers.

This is an incredible card! It is not looking so hot to be a 1/1 token with this on the board, especially if its wizard's controller is a pro like me.

...what.

...WHAT.

This is the mother of all 3 CMC pingers. 3 toughness, hoses the crap out of many token strategies and mana dorks, Flash so you can leave mana open for responses...

here is the list of problems 3-mana pingers usually have:

they're too slow to start up (turn 4 to start pinging, usually)
they're too predictable
they're fragile as glass
they can't handle hordes of creatures that well

this creature solves literally all of those problems.

so weird of me to misread the abiility to also affect players with the same name. Well Izzet is home to weirds.

What is up with her legs? I like the card, but I can't get over her broken legs.
She would be pretty sweet with a RUG deck and paired with Nightshade Peddler.

Horde of X/1 tokens bearing down on you? She disagrees. There are no tokens. 4.5/5

I feel like there has to be some kind of combo for this card. In Innistrad we saw a lot of "tiddle" cards.

Per example:
Captain of the Mists
Galvanic Alchemist
Ghostly Touch
Niblis of the Breath

Otherwise the obvious connections to cards like this are usually Basilisk Collar. In Standard you could always do Nightshade Peddler and Butcher's Cleaver or Vault of the Archangel. In reality Butcher's Cleaver isn't a bad option on her. It makes her a 3/3 so she can attack on an empty board and the cleaver lets her pick up anywhere between 1-4+ life in a pinch.

Excellent sideboard card. I would be more likely to maindeck Electrickery over this, but Staticaster here really excels against tokens/mana dorks should your opponent have them.

Works well in an Izzet-EDH with Mind over Matter.

Tap
Discard
Tap

Repeat until hand is empty. With an Izzet-deck it is easy to refill your hand.
On the other hand, if you can pull this off you are propably winning anyway.

I wouldn't mind if she flashed me hastily....

Oh wait, the card, yes. I personally made my Izzet deck an instant and sorcery tribal sort of thing, so I'm not that interested in this, but still sideboardable to take care of populate.

What do you do if your opponent is playing with the same things as you? Use this card as a wall. This card is ok in block.

I built a deck around her and it destroyed everyone at my FNM. Its a RUG deck with a black splash for deadly allure and the rest of the creatures are first and double strikers. I had some opponents just scoop because every creature they played just died instantly to the deathtouched staticaster or do a deathstriking attacker.

Only the second creature with flash and haste. Pretty cool combination, and she's pretty useful too. 4/5

@ Avensai: Well, this can't hit players, and doesn't have any attacking power, so she presents no clock to the opponent. So if your opponent doesn't have any one-toughness creatures, then this is essentially a minor combat trick on legs that can block bears. If your opponent has no creatures, she's basically useless. Combine that with the restrictive cost, and this probably will be a sideboard card, or at least won't see as much play as Cunning Sparkmage did.

Her main problem is other than thrashing 1/1's, she's no threat. Like, seriously. She can't hit players, which means her only use is hunting and slaying 1/1 utility creatures and hordes of tokens (which won't be the case because there are very, very few 1/1 tokens in RtR. Selesnya has upgraded for the most part.)

Great use of flash and haste. She only gets more powerful with more copies.

With Dragon's maze being out now this card is orders of magnitude more powerful.
1st turn Judges familiar or Jaces phantasm
2nd turn hidden strings....untap lands used to cast it cast volcanic strength...swing for 3 untap familiar for blocking and leave 2 mana open for counters
3rd turn...cast whatever 2 drop you want...swing for 3 and untap lands...hold staticaster in hand to play at end of their turn...
Turn 4 play Ral Zarek...now your staticaster can take out things up to 4 toughness with Ral and an evasion creature with hidden strings...you control the board. A few turns later if they arent dead yet and Ral hasnt ultimated for whatever reason you cast an overloaded dragonshift and now use your staticaster and whatever other misc small creatures you have out to finish them off.

Has an uncanny syngery with sweeper cards such as Pyroclasm and Volcanic Fallout, allowing you to stretch and kill x/3s while survivng the sweeper with your own pinger. Especially useful for those occasional 3/3 beast tokens.

See that counterspell? They're doves now! Look again! The doves are now dead.

Anything is possible with Izzet Staticaster.

Use Neko-te to semi-permanently tap down swathes of creatures until the Neko-te is destroyed! Soulbond with Galvanic Alchemist to rinse and repeat or Elgaud Shieldmate for Hexproof. And keep a few counterspells in your backpocket to protect Neko-te.. A nice alternate combo from the Stati-Peddler one! Note: beware that she doesn't hit your creatures too!

This is probably my all time favorite pinger. While not being able to target players is a considerable drawback, having a single one of these guys out pretty much makes Lingering Souls completely useless, along with any other one toughness creature that your opponent may have. Even after you have killed all their one toughness creatures it still provides value by blocking all that bears that are in current Standard right now.

Having flash and haste makes it play remarkably similarly to instants, while still being able to stick around after you cast it.

Ahhh, yes, one of my favorite cards.

It lets mizzium mortars take out at least one x/5, if you kick rite of replication at it it's pretty much the end for all your opponents creatures, especially against a selesnya deck.

I use this lovely little card in my Riku of Two reflections EDH, get her up to something like 31 copies of her with RIte, then proceed to watch my opponents cry.

dropping this and then equipping it with Basilisk Collar before tapping.

This is modern playable. While being a great sideboard choice against Lingering souls/Bitterblossom, Staticaster also has usage against Affinity, mana creatures and all those 2/1 creatures powercreatures running around.

You don't have any targets left? Equip Batterskull for good measure.
