Why does such a card have to be double-green? :( Well, depandant on deck it can still be preferable to Gaea's Balance, since you can fetch any lands, including nonbasics like duals, the Urza's or Cloudposts.

This card will thin your deck, removing those pesky land-draws for late-game play.

This card is amazing with landfall.
And being able to search for land that itself counts the amount and type of land is amazing. Imagine sacrificing 4 land to get Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth, 1x Maze of Ith, and 2x Cabal Coffers...that's 6 mana next turn with +2 mana every time you play another land.
Alternatively if you control at least 6 land, you can search for Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle and a mixture of Mountains and "Fetchland". Searching for Fetchland lets you double your landfall.
Wow.. it suddenly occurs to me that Landfall decks might need to have a big amounts of land if they're running Scapeshift. Really, you can get 7 lands into play on your 4th turn using Khalni Heart Expedition and Harrow. If you scapeshift on the next turn, that's gonna be 14 lands taken out of your library already. And if you scapeshift again, that's gonna be 28 ... Man.. I'm happy that "destroy all lands" effects aren't as commonly played in my local store as they used to be.
the urborg/coffer and tron combos seems the best, but Gaea's Cradle w/ dryad arbors, or Tolarian Academy with Artifact land doesn't seem half bad either.
what really made this card is that the Sacrificing lands IS NOT part of the cost, but rather the resolution...therefor this card isn't associated with the same risk as certain others.

If it was standard legal I would go buy four right away for my Bant Landfall deck... So good! Late game, I got ten lands a pair of Emeria Angels and looking for a way to finally win the game. Sac all 10 lands get 20 birds, crank my Windrider Eel up to a 22/22 and extend my hand for a shake.

I'd never seen this card used till someone accelerated into a bunch of land, then Scapeshifted into four Valakuts and a bunch of Mountains. Cue gaping at the board as I realized I was already dead.

as a casual player, i love this card. i just found out about it when i was looking for more cards for my reanimator/landfall deck with Oby (landfall demon) Lotus cobra, Rampaging Baloths, vineash kudzu, Avenger of Zendikar, and amulet of vigor. i think it works pretty well

If you have 8 forests out, play scape shift sac the 8 forests and grab 2 valakut's and 6 mountains do the valakut's trigger when they all come into play at the same time.
this is absolutely sick in a landfall deck! but i can also see it played in a multicolor (3 colors+) deck.

I don't understand why no one saw this before.
T4: 4 forests. Play this. Search for 4 Cloudposts. Next turn you will have 16/17 colorless mana. Good for artifact green decks, even though they're uncommon.

God, this thing is an awesome card. Drop your silly basic lands and pull out lands that tap for 2, as well as combo lands (Tomb and Coffers for example?). It will also trigger your landfall, so having something like Rampaging Baloths or Ob Nixilis, the Fallen could do some serious damage.
On top of that, the land sac isn't part of the cost, so this getting countered wouldn't backfire like Devastating Summons would. Which is great! I wish more modern cards would do this.

This card is wonderful in every aspect: - the name is a pun, - the artwork is beautiful, - the cost makes it playable, - the massive land sacrifice is not part of the cost, so there is no risk of sacrifice and than being countered, - the effect is usable in several combos. Should I dare to name a card qhich can be played with this one, I suggest Terravore...

One word: Urzatron. it's like a mini Primeval Titan that comes out and ensures that I have the three lands I need to set up, and I'm ready to drop an Eldrazi on the following turn, I search out an additional Tower for a nice 10 mana. I think BGW Urzatron is underrated since WU is the norm in Modern.

Look at the fishies! They're so cute! (I love this art.) Also, this is great with all landfall effects. I particularly love it with rampaging baloths and roil elemental.

Run this with Amulet of Vigor, trust me. Sac those old boring lands for 4 cloudposts, and tap again that turn for 16 colourless mana! Or, if you're just looking for the landfall triggers, run it with Flagstones of Trokair. Bring all 4 in at once, legend rule kills all of them and brings in 4 plains. You've just earned 8 landfall this turn, or 9 if you played your land for the turn. So, who else wants a 19/19 Plated Geopede turn 4?
If you're looking for even more landannigans, don't forget Crop Rotation, the littlest Scapeshift there ever was.

And with the upcoming release of Dragon's Maze this card will have another way to win games, Maze's End and this card will probably end up ruining some people's days...

Beautiful art, and lets you forcibly fix your colors while thinning your deck. I don't know how practical it is, but hey, it works well with Landfall too, for all three of you that still have your Landfall decks around.
I just took an EDH game with this, Amulet of Vigor, and Maze's End, turn six. On an opponent's end step.

Scapeshift is the proud mama of her own deck, built around making Valakut and 5 mountains hit the field at the same time, for 18 damage. Land ramp gets you there as fast as possible, and Prismatic Omen keeps it going lategame.

Yes, there are a ton of fun and cool interactions, you can fetch up a buncha locus', other utility lands, etc, or, you could just sac 7 lands, search up a valakut, the molten pinnacle and 6 mountains to win on the spot.

Scapeshift + Lotus Cobra = Decree of Savagery
Scapeshift + Vinelasher Kudzu = lots of +1/+1 counters.
Scapeshift + Baru, Fist of Krosa = total trampage
and now...

Bonus points to anyone brave enough to try and double combo this with Faith's Rewards or Second Sunrise.
