Grand Architect. Makes this into nice, recursive removal in a color that doesn't have it, for potentially 0 mana cost.

Not great, but decent.

It gives you something to do if you get land flooded... but I dunno, I prefer to play a card which is good without having to be flooded first. ^^

If you can pull the infinite myr mana combo though (two galvanisers + enough myr to produce 2+ mana) it's totally feasible though. Of course, if you have infinite mana most anything becomes feasible. =P

If I want a very expensive artifact to kill creatures, I use altar of shadows. That one at least also generates mana once it killed at least one creature, and can combo well with it's charge counters.

At first glance this doesn't look very playable. Then you see Grand Architect in the same set, and it looks a little more playable. Fun card for casual play.

So.. its pretty much "{8} Tap: Tower of Calamities deals 12 damage to target player. Play this ability only if you control Stuffy Doll.

We played a 6 player friendly draft with some mates tonight. This piece of work came out in one of the boosters. After six turns of drafting it was still circulating and collecting laughs from everyone. What a sad card. This is too horrible for even common level, let alone rare.

I like the concept.

4 (mana) to cast
8 (mana) to activate
12 (damage) to deal
16 (cent) to buy

Aladdin's Ring won me a sealed tournament a while back...no direct to the face option with this, but a lot more overall damage for less. Still far too slow in constructed.

Then again, everything has gotten bigger since then.

The fact that you have to tap it just makes me think that the tower falls on the target creature.

Mmm yeah... I can taste it... I'm going to pull this for one of my rares

*POST BOOSTER-BOX EDIT: I DID INDEED PULL IT AS ONE OF MY RARES

And a grand architect, and after me and my friends built limited decks out of our pulls, this and my grand architect really cleaned up

"I'M GOING TO IMPALE YOUR TINY CREATURES WITH AN ENTIRE *censored* TOWER."

I like this card in EDH, since you can expect to get to 8 mana. This is reliable removal when you dont have other options.

In SOM, this is THE rare you don't want to draw in a booster. It's too situational. I mean, when will you need to strike a creature for 12, since all the big beaters in Standard are indestructible anyway? Maybe they should have written "target creature or player" and make it a Mythic...
Luke_BPC
★★☆☆☆ (2.8/5.0) (2 votes)
You can wipe out Ulamog if you turn this into a creature and give it infect first... But then you can turn him into an artifact with Liquidmetal and Revoke Existance... Or just Journey or Path him.

I kinda dig the flavor text. The power creep has kind of justified (meh) the usefulness of freekin 12 damage.

In fact, I really dig the flavor of this card. Im building a fortress deck and its designed to have boatloads of mana and lots of time so I would really enjoy having a giant tower blasting away all my opponents creatures its just... soo flavorful.

Okay, so it's a mediocre card.

It's still fun to shout "FIRE THE TOWER!" when you pay 8 mana.

A fun addition to my Cloudpost casual deck. Every turn hit something for 12, and still have some mana left over for spells and stuff. Neat flavor too.

@Richard_Hawk: "Guard Gomazoa laughs at the Tower."

The Tower of Calamaties gets the last laugh. Guard Gomazoa is protected against combat damage, but the Tower's ability is not combat damage.

"What's that, Gomazoa? Laughing at me? BAM! Twelve points of delicious overkilly damage."

Turn 1 Swamp
Turn 2 Mountain + Mana Myr
Turn 3 Land + Semblance Anvil imprint an artifact
Turn 4 Land + Stuffy Doll + Phyresis

Turn 6 Land

Tower of Calamities rules text now says "8, T: Target opponent loses game."

I actually really like this card. I run it in a G/R Fireball deck. I build very "gimicky" decks as my friends would say. The deck runs 4 of Red Sun's Zenith , Fireball , Overgrown Battlement , Wall of Vines , Wall of Tanglecord , and some Eldrazi spawn token generators. That being said outside of the Fireballs the deck doesn't have much creature destruction and Wall of Tanglecord can handle a lot but anything too powerful for it to block gets swatted by the Tower. In this deck mana is no worry so dropping 8 for a 12 damage creature ping is actually not a bad exchange. Not the best deck ever built but it wins a lot.

Overcosted, but a decent fit for Green decks that need some kind of removal and an excuse to use all that mana.

Reminds me of such classics as Aladdin's Ring.

As with the aforementioned card, Cloudpost+Vesuva+Glimmerpost should allow you to make use of it a lot faster.

Ironically, this is the last card you'd want to use in this set against a certain Phyrexian Obliterator.

If it was 8 without tap, or 4 and tap, then it'd be so much more playable.

otherwise, it's a stale card that STILL can't kill Krosan Cloudscraper

Reminds me of when the Al Bhed and the Crusaders tried to kill Sin at the Mi'ihen highroad. It jut gets thiiiis close to being able to kill Eldrazi.

Also this is just really overpowered removal. It's fun. Shivan meteor sees play in my playgroup. Why not this? Though if you play it with spitemare I will kick you in the teeth.

Also epic art. You get a star for that alone. So tht's 2.5 stars :P

Chase rare of the set. Everytime we were drafting and someone opened one, they had to slam it down on the table and yell "BOO-YA KASHA!!!!!"

Then we would all know who was winning the draft.
