Oh man, I may have been hurt by Steamflogger Bossin the past, but I'm such a sucker for cards that give a hint of the future. I'm ready for some big things when Rise of the Eldrazi comes around in May. Fun fact: anybody who thinks this card's name looks familiar should take a peek back at Future Sight's Ghostfire.

For now, the activated ability's pretty expensive for what you're getting, but you can still tutor for fun things like Darksteel Colossus, Platinum Angel, Phyrexian Dreadnought, Sundering Titan...and as for the first ability, I can't wait to see what kind of power the Eldrazi bring to the (more-accessible-thanks-to-this-card) table.

Just realized this is also one of the few exceptions to the general "Lands tap for 1" rule.

Oh look, they made Steamflogger Boss mythic with the counterbalance that its use would be realized MUCH faster than the Rigger Boss'. I will cry if I pull this in a draft, but I will probably take it in my insanity, because, since it's legendary, it has to have some OMFGAMAZING use in RotE. I believe it was MaRo who said that legendary lands are something the R&D team REALLY want to cut down on, so one's inclusion, much less one that's mythic and doesn't produce mana, really intrigues me.

It's going to be a long three months, methinks...

This cards potential cannot be determined until the release of "Rise of the Eldrazi", until then its Steamflogger :P

This may be good in the future, but it's almost worthless as it stands now. It would be a total bummer to open it in a draft or sealed, because it's pretty much entirely unplayable.

Guys, remember, Steamflogger Boss is a teaser for something they admitted they would never print. This card is better compared to Shield of Kaldra if anything.

If it helps, think of it as "T: Add 2, use this only to cast Eldrazi. When you cast an Eldrazi, untap this."

Anyway, searching out a Sundering Titan towards the end of an EDH game seems like a nice thing to be able to do even without Eldrazi.

Actually i should refrain from rating this card right now in the first place, but i feel like this card is going to be pretty awesome with colorless Eldrazi spells. Maybe this is because i suppose colorless nonartifact spells to become awesome in general. On top of this, i love the Artwork.
Oh, and it's no wonder this land does not produce any mana, having a land which reduces all spells of a certain category by 2 seems awesome enough. Although this will likely mean there aren't any or just very few cheap Eldrazi spells for the early game available.

Fun fact: This is a pretty dead card in draft right now.

This could very well be an awesome card someday. During the RotE release events (assuming the draft goes Zendikar-Worldwake-RotE), this card will probably be great. Maybe.

Until that time, this card has to go away with your steamflogger boss. Actually, scratch that. You could use Steamflogger boss in a draft (if you really had no other choice). This does nothing yet.

Anyone who finds this card worthless is just being a fool. Despite the current lack of Eldrazi, it's not like steamflogger boss, who would obviously not find use in his own set. It wasn't as though time spiral block was going to spawn contraptions, whatever they were going to be, especially at the point of future sight. Wizards can't exactly tell us "Oh by the way, the Eldrazi will never exist." after naming an entire set after them. Despite it's lack of use now, I will be stocking up 4 of these in anticipation of how valuable these will be when May comes. Guess who's going to be playing an artifact deck next set... They are artifacts, right?

★☆☆☆☆ (1.6/5.0) (4 votes)
Eye of Ugin should not have been printed in Worldwake. It is completely dead in every limited format. ZEN-ZEN-WWK draft has no Eldrazi Spell (@Turboimusa Just because 'Eldrazi Monument' has 'Eldrazi' in the name does not make it an Eldrazi spell) and, here I'm assuming than Eye of Ugin will not be reprinted in Rise of the Eldrazi, ROE-ROE-ROE drafts, which most likely will have Eldrazi spells, will not have access to this card at all.

I understand that Wizards most likely printed this card to build anticipation for ROE, I just think it was a mistake as far as limit play is concerned.

Buying mine in advance. Its going to turn out like Vampire Nocturnus, who everyone was skeptical about why he was in M10, and had a really low buy price, but look at him now, hitting $15-20. I think Eldrazi are going to go HUGE. Also, Eldrazi are probably going to end up like Lorwyn tribal, with Instants/Sorceries along with Creatures with the Eldrazi type.

☆☆☆☆☆ (0.5/5.0) (3 votes)
Rise of the Eldrazi is not going to bring back tribal - they'd have done that in Zendikar and Worldwake with all the Vampire effecting spells, like Blood Tribute, Feast of Blood, and Vampire's Bite. Eldrazi will be a new creature type, and it had darn well be a very impressive creature type to elicit such a rare land that interacts with them. I cannot conceive how spending 7 mana to search for a creature and put it into your hand is anywhere near worth it though, that would mean that the deck would be extremely slow, or should have some extremely large mana accelerators just to find it and play it. I agree with duke_g though, this card has no purpose being printed at all in Worldwake. It doesn't matter that it's a spoiler card, it wastes a mythic slot in the set and on top of it all, Wizards should have learn when they printed the Steamflogger Boss that the gaming community doesn't respond well to iffy preview cards. I'll be happier if I know for a fact that my Eye of Ugin will end up being worth a bundle, but until then, I'm more annoyed than anything that I even opened one, when I could have gotten something like Jace, The Mind Sculptor or Admonition Angel instead.

Interesting fact:

If you look at the card Ghostfire, it's flavor text mentions the eye of Ugin. I'm thinking that they will reprint it in Rise of the Eldrazi, and change it's typeline to say Instant-Eldrazi. Then it would just be a colorless Lightning Bolt with Eye of Ugin on the battlefield.

Still not worth it, though.

Buy this card now while it´s cheap.
When Rise of the Eldrazi comes out and if the Eldrazi spells are some what powerful and playable in standard, Eye of Ugin will be the bread and butter of every Eldrazi-Deck.

It will probably go up to 15 Dollars or higher. The same with Vampire Nocturnus.
He was cheap as hell when M10 came out and now you get him not under 15$.

The problem with such cards is:
The eldrazi thing is most likely just a block thing (and not even the full block), and will after that not appear again (at least not for a long time). Which means again that the more sets come out after this, the crappier this card gets automatically. Like "splice on arcane" for example. That mechanic is completly useless now since there havent been arcane spells since Kamigawa block.

Also, it's mythic! Seriously, if you rip open a booster and open a mythic, do you want to find a card that right now makes absolutely no sense? T_T

Even if it is going to be good, why buy a playset? If you've got four in your eldrazi deck, sure you are shaving 2 colorless off the cost of every spell, but then again, you've got 3 unplayable cards in there too. No I really don't see this getting much better.

I personally like Eye of Ugin--flavor wise, it's almost like that scene at the end of the credits that says, in big bold letters... OR IS IT? While, currently, it's perhaps not the most useful card, it hints at future story lines, and makes me very excited for Rise of the Eldrazi. In literary terms, it, as well as Eldrazi Monument, foreshadows whatever the Eldrazi are--and I'm certain that they're going to be interesting. Potentially non-artifact colorless creatures? Lovecraftian monstrosities? They sound fascinating. Maybe it's not the best card to get in a booster pack when you're trying to find good rares or mythic rares for a deck, but when you think of the storyline of the set doesn't it make you just a little excited? I know it does for me.

Listen up: the fact that they were printed in Worldwake rather than in Rise of the Eldrazi (fancy name, eh?) means the objective is speculation. Judging by the amount of comments, it has succeeded.

But why speculate? Because it's a money play. My guess is most likely this card won't be worth anything decent when the Eldrazi come out, and everybody who bought these will be feeling awfully stupid for falling into the trap.

I forsee this going up. Maybe double in price. Being able to cut the casting cost of all your eldrazi spells by playing a land is way too nice. With Kozilek, Butcher of Truth revealed on some of the external sights, and likely to soon be spoiled on this one, this is looking better and better. With this out, you get a 10/10 for 8 colourless mana that draws you 4 cards, makes your opponent sacrifice 4 permanents whenever it attacks, and that's shuffled into the library whenever you attack. Now THATS a card more broken than a Baneslayer Angel and I can tell you that I'll be cracking boosters like crazy to get one. 4/5 for likely ending up as a killer combo piece in a green mana accel deck.

@ lz17: That's a really cool interaction, except Eye of Ugin is a LEGENDARY land. Unless they reprint Mirror Gallery you can only have 1 Eye of Ugin in play at a time. As soon as you play a second one, or when your opponent plays one, they both blow up.

This card is all hype. It's legendary status kills any chance of making Eldrazi creatures playable in draft, and the 7 cost tutor is ridiculous, though it can search for colorless artifact creatures. I expect this card to drop in price significantly when the visual spoiler for ROTE premieres.

I met a guy at the RoE pre-release who said he'd torn his copy of Eye of Ugin up because it was "worthless". Even without Eldrazi, I wanted a few copies so I could tutor out Darksteel Colossus and friends in EDH. I may have mentioned this to him, quietly. >.>

★★★☆☆ (3.5/5.0) (9 votes)
As much as it irritates me that they printed this in Worldwake when it clearly belongs in RoE (if it doesn't belong there, then it shouldn't exist), I would be willing to forgive that if the search ability was either cheaper (maybe 4-5 mana) or let you play the card you searched for. I'd run one of these if I could dig out my Eldrazi Monument or a Darksteel Colossus, but seven mana just to add it to my hand isn't worth it.

EDIT: So, I feel kind of stupid now. I've already traded for two, and wouldn't hesitate to get two more. I am completely on board with the Eldrazi.

I think Mycosynth Lattice would make all of the little color-alligned eldrazi cheaper, as well, because they would then be colorless. In that situation this card would become that much better, but also that much worse since you wouldn't be playing standard and there would be much better things to do with Mycosynth Lattice.

Eldrazi already run incredible mana acceleration, and hard-casting Emrakul gives you that extra turn even if he somehow doesn't get to see play. Any of the other two also give these kinds of effect off, and 7 is easy to pay with the Spawns. Also, with those cards with effects that play with revealing cards from your hand in RoE, this is just plainly broken. If this wasn't legendary, everyone would be running four of it. Even without mana ability, this does for an Eldrazi deck the same that Artifact Lands did for affinity, and everyone still remembers that.

@surewhynot and Vedalken_Arbiter:
Ugin is a Spirit Dragon (like Yosei, Keiga, Jugan, Kokusho, and Ryusei, but he's aligned with colorless magic rather than any single color. Ugin is also a Planeswalker.

Ugin along with two other Planeswalkers lured the Eldrazi to Zendikar to trap them. Ugin's ghostfire was used to activate the Eye of Ugin as the final part of the trap.

Nicol Bolas defeated and incapacitated Ugin, and delved into Ugin's mind for information about the Eldrazi and the Eye of Ugin. Bolas sent Sarkhan Vol to the Eye to guard it, but by that point Sarkhan had gone off the deep end and when he encountered Chandra Nalaar he practically acted as a tour guide.

Chandra found the Eye after following a map she had stolen, along with a scroll containing the Breath of Ugin spell (ghostfire); Jace Beleren was trailing Chandra at the time. When Sarkhan and Chandra reached the heart of the Eye, Sarkhan tried to sacrifice her to his own insane agenda. When Jace arrived to the fight, one of the hedrons activated and started siphoning the magic from the three Planeswalkers. Jace helped Chandra activate the Breath of Ugin, which unlocked the Eye and released the Eldrazi.

Of course, the release of the Eldrazi was Nicol Bolas' goal the entire time.

This is tricky. I like it, but the fact that it doesn't actually add any mana to your mana pool makes this card kind of not a land, and yet the eye of Ugin sort of IS a land.... maybe it should have been a colorless artifact? Oh, and I think Socialexperiment's contradicting comment and edit is funny.

For me, it's an indispensable part of my Azusa, Lost but Seeking EDH deck. Being able to reliably tutor out Kozilek and Ulamog, as well as Duplicant and Steel Hellkite (note that you can tutor for any colorless creature spell) is a strategy that's won me many games.

Someone, somewhere, has actually done the following:

1) Bought a booster box of each Zendikar block set.

2) Run their own draft among friends. (can't be a sanctioned one, you'll see why)

3) Gotten this as their mythic in WWK

4) Felt a disturbance in the Force. Picked this in draft.

5) Opened a foil Kozilek and an Emrakul in their ROE pack. (ROE is not normally drafted with WWK)

6) Actually gotten the Emrakul to come back around

Maybe only once. But this has happened. For that reason, you must all get a rush of undying hatred towards that one guy from now on whenever you see this card again.

It's made for it's own thing. I mean, you wouldn't play it in a Goblin Tribal deck, would you?

The thing that's best about it is the fact that it doesn't tap for the mana. It's not like Myr Resevoir which taps only for Myr's and such.

I'd give it 4.5 stars, because it's a land that tutors.

AKA, it's an uncounterable, free permanent that tutors.

They just had to specify that the mana could only be spent on colorless Eldrazi didn't they? My, poor, poor changelings.

It's hilarious to me that this was printed before ROE. Like... how would you feel cracking this as a mythic?

@Darthtuk: Probably a bit late now, but your friends must be pretty dumb to ignore the rather obvious 'Eldrazi' part of the card...

Sad that this is the most recent Legendary Land though. The whole point of Legendary is to give the creature the extra 'oomph' as well as preventing exploits. Bit weird given how many other named lands are in this set that aren't legendary....

@Lithl: Ugin is one of the Spirit Dragons of Kamigawa? I knew about the Ghostfire relation, but that's still pretty cool. Man, Kamigawa has a lot of subtle interaction with other planes, like the Myojin of Night's Reach and Tamiyo.
