Just use Stifle on its CIP ability and you'll have a massive creature for cheap with no drawback.

The Stifle alternative is possibly the best combo with that card and was a nice Standard combo back then, yet in Extended it's not that great, i'd preferably play Phyrexian Dreadnought with Stifle instead.

I was looking for a creature to use instead of Phyrexian Dreadnought in a "Dreadstill" deck. Looks like I just found it! It'll be my poorman's Phyrexian Dreadnought for now!

You can't counter his ability with Stifle cause it only targets activated abilities. With the tap sign or the colon :

★☆☆☆☆ (1.2/5.0) (4 votes)
You can use Stifle because it's a triggered ability.

It's a really bad tradeoff. They should have made it 7/6 flying trample for 5 with just skip next turn or something. Or hell, if it was like 4/14 shroud can block any number of creatures skip next two turns at least it could protect you. But as it is? Not worth it.

This is a fun guy to build a deck around... You're gonna be using Stifle right? Then why not take advantage of that card? Parallax Wave and Parallax Tide comes to mind... Hmmm, exile 5 lands for 5 mana? Seems like a GREAT deal! Oh, and what's that? Fading counters only dissapear on my turn... So if i have Wave and Tide out, i can cast him without worrying about the consequences of skipping 2 turns really ;)

A pretty impressive play on turn four, but it's very dangerous to play it otherwise. I'm thinking of using it with Quest for Ula's Temple, though, for some potential extra support during your opponents' extra turns. Might not be practical, but it would probably make for some laughs at the kitchen table.

Quest for Ula's Temple to slap it down and just play defensively with the other massive blue disgustings you're playing.

This is not that bad of a card at face value if you play it early. It can protect you pretty well since not only can it take a lot of hits, it will often get your opponents to keep their stronger attackers back since this will slaughter pretty much anything that will attack it by turn 4. You'll still take some hits, but you'll probably survive with enough life to clean up afterward, assuming you got some decent creatures (walls especially) out early. The main flaw with this card is that it's practically a dead draw without Stifle if you get it late.

Just don't ever play it in multiplayer without a darn good reason and/or combo. The minute this guy hits the table, everyone will try to kill you/it.

omg. this card is awful. it gives you horible card disadvantege (unless you have a Necropotence or something out) and on top of that it is not that cheep, dosent untap for your next two turns, and sense win do "up the stakes" with a weeker creature, and there for the flaver is awfull. should have made it more expensive but was like a 12/12 and have vigalens to nigate the fact your only going to get to swing with it once untill you get another turn. maby insted of upping the price they should just up the turn loss and givin it the pluses. or maby a "skip a turn" affect that gave it advanteges to fit the fact that things tend to eat more than once.

edit: on second thought, Necropotence wouldnt work because it triggers on a step you dont have, and i feel relly stupid now because it wont swing at all during thoughs turns because you don't have an attack step. also the flaver is even worce because it is NEVER mentioned in the in tier miroden cycle!

If you're a little short on stifles and you want to impress your friends, cast 2 Final Fortunes before playing this card. You'll skip the turns that would kill you.

Of course, that would mean you've paid 8 for this creature, and used up 2 extra cards, but your opponents will never see it coming.

Sadly is Phyrexian Dreadnough not aviable in Extended, is it?

☆☆☆☆☆ (0.0/5.0)
@Mode. ***, this was never a viable standard card, even when stifle was around. Affinity would cream this nearly every time if it had a counter (oops, guess ill just counter stifle and see what happens). I'm not saying this is a bad card, its actually one of my favorites, and i have 2 in my artifact deck (which are promptly sideboarded in multiplayer i assure you.) This isnt too bad if you cast it 3-4, only if they kill it immediately, so i would decided before using it if it could at least make its presence felt. Honestly, most people don't attack those two turns with this out anyways.

this could be easily stalemated with magosi, the waterveil and a mindslaver or sorin markov because then your opponents dont have a turn either but stifle is probably your best bet much less mana cost

I slapped this onto a Soul Foundry, and had a Soul Foundry already in play with Clone, which had created a ton of Llanowar Elf copies. Cranked out 7 Eaters in one turn (kept untapping the Foundry), lost 14 turns and played Mass Hysteria. It was quite fun.

Just have a handy lightning greaves ready to attach. It just happens to be in the same block as well. This card is designed for combos and Phyrexian Dreadnought + Stifle would be a better combo but this is more fun! If you skip your two turns AND still be able to win, it could mean that your opponent's deck sucks. I don't see what other card, besides Tempting Wurm, that has this kind of bad drawback. Even so, Tempting Wurm is good in late games but Eater of Days is good in early game where there won't be much on the field. Combine with mana acceleration and you'll practically will never even notice two turns have passed since it's so early in the game.
I honestly think this is the heaviest drawback for a card and if anybody happens to win with this card without using Stifle deserves a little of bragging rights and/or a laugh at your opponent's face.
Btw, I'm just trying to find ways out of the drawback by NOT using Stifle

Used to play this as a finisher in a red deck full of Lightning Greaves and Mass Hysteria. Totally got outclassed by Cosmic Larva when it came out in Fifth Dawn, though.

I think this card can be really powerful if used right, especially if you can give it lifelink, say, with something like Basilisk Collar. For the extra turns the opponent gets, you gain 9 life and probably kill one of their creatures if they even dare attacking in the first place.

Play it with Stasis. You opponent doesn't get much advantage, because they aren't untapping, you get two turns without paying for Stasis, and then you swing with a 9/8 flampler.

Turn 1: Swamp and then Festering Goblin
Turn 2: Culling the Weak, maybe kill an opponent's 1/1, and you've already got a 9/8 that can block flying and fear. I think you can defend yourself for two turns with just this.

i take it none of you ever heard of smokestacks, cranial plating or lightning greaves? stifle makes it pretty good, but getting 2-3 counters on a smokestacks and giving them 3 turns in a row of losing permanents is devastating, on top of that it's cheap enough that you can cranial plate it and lightning greave it on a tapped out turn for a win, it's not a terrible card, it just needs to be worked around a little and joined with other pieces of the puzzle that make your deck what it is.i give it the 3/5 it deserves, it's not great, but it's not terrible either.

the skipping two turns effect occurs as eater of days comes into play so even if you bazaar trader it over to your opponent you will still skip your next two turns

I really, really wanted to love this card. But they made it so hard to. I really wish they re-did it for Scars; make it a 3/2 flampler for 3 or something, with "Skip your next turn: Put three +1/+1 counters on this card" or something. Still not a great card, but I'd totally run it.

@Quoi: Use Master Transmuter to get the Eater of Days back to your hand, re-imprint the Eater, give the egg on back, and wait - INFINITE TURNS FTW

@IntmetHte: It comes into play under your opponent's control, you're bazaar tradering the Summoner's Egg

I think you guys are looking at this card all wrong. Using a deck with Shimmer Myr/Teferi, Mage of Zhalfir/Leyline of Anticipation and Unwinding Clock (and Mycosynth Lattice if you find it necessary) all of your artifacts (and lands if you have the lattice, or artifact lands) are untapped on your opponents' phases, effectively allowing you to utilize their turns as your own.

Another way to do things is with cards like a fully leveled Lighthouse Chronologist which gives you extra turns which can be used up in lieu of your actual turns.

When this card is played with a deck that uses tactics similar to either of those, all it does is offsets the benefits you've already created for yourself and becomes a 9/8 for four colorless, which can be crippling to your opponents. You don't NEED to remove the drawback, that is. You can just work around it.

How about Time Stretch and this? Skip your next two extra turns, then win with him as soon as you get another turn?
Except, well, if you have enough mana to cast Time Stretch in any format you could probably cast Darksteel Colossus... *shrugs*

3/5 for lulz, 2/5 for viability, since good cards usually stand on their own.

yeah it's unlikely but...

Turn 1: Urza's Mine + Black Vise
Turn 2: Urza's Power Plant + Chump blockers or whatevs
Turn 3 Urza's Tower + Akroma's Memorial
Turn 4: Any land + 2 of these guys FTW

EDIT: OR

Turn 1: Mountain+ Ornithopter + Lightning Bolt
Turn 2: Mountain + Emblem of Warmind
Turn 3: Mountain + Mana Flare
Turn 4: See above

Hell if I still remember the control rules right, you could play Emblem of Warmind on one of your opponents creatures so he will be less likely to off it. It would still be YOUR creatures that get haste, right?

And if they have enough flying defense to keep you from winning, you are playing red and mana flare is out, direct damage spell and do it next turn.

@Poolah "Eater of Days is beast!!!!!"

I'm pretty sure it's a Leviathan.

Oh, also, don't ever, EVER use Undying Evil to keep it alive. Unless you have a Torpor Orb or something.

Also works well with Smokestack/Tangle Wire. By the time it's your turn again, they'll be defenseless. Also, you will hopefully still have permanents.

@bijart_dauth

First of all, you have terrible grammar.

Secondly, I don't think you know how this card works.

Lastly, I disagree with your attitude towards its flavor, I think it's awesome. What other creature is so beast (or leviathan) that it forces you to skip your next two turns?

Cool art too.

Heheheh... it only really works because my friends play pretty casual, but I play this guy in a deck that NEVER takes its own turn. I run Seedborn Muse, Djinni Illuminatus the various Pact cards from Futuresight (Negation, Titan, Slaughter, etc), Magosi the Waterveil, and my kill spell is Jace's Archivist. How can you argue with unlimited Pacts that you never pay for? Or 9/8 flying walls? I draw cards with Archivist and Mediate. Vedalken Orrery and Leyline of Anticipation make sure I can do stuff :P

Opponent: Eater of Days, no fancy tricks, ETB effect resolves. I was expecting a Stifle or something, he had a couple lands untapped... so I just stare at it a moment, bewildered, then look up at him. He's staring at me, revealing a hand with Force of Will, two Spell Snare, High Tide, Mental Misstep, Meditate... and Reset.
