I hope this REALLY gets reprinted. I'm in love with this card. If your deck has Daze, opponents will never relax and just tap out carelessly. It always keeps them guessing.

I love alternative counters... counterspell and cancel are so boring! Foil is my favorite, followed by Daze, two awesome counterspells that will just drive your opponent mad 'cause they'll never rest.

One of the best counterspell in MTG history, and your oppent will never relax as long as you had an island in play.

I hope this comes back to standard before I die, maybe with some crazy cycle.
Way awesome.

Instant
Daze is blue.
Counter target spell because all your lands are tapped and your overconfident opponent is spending all their mana on something large since you probably can't play anything. Win.

Yeah, I think ZombieSnail gets this card. The best thing is when they ask if you have force of will, and ur tapped out, and then you say that you don't, so they play their huge spell, and you daze it =).

Someone explain why this card is still all the rage. Anyone can come up with an additional mana these days, and even if they can't you've just fallen behind in land drops. I suppose IF you get to play first turn of the game Daze works, but otherwise you'll now be 2 lands behind on your opponents turn 3.

@ Trubuliva: Because you can cast it when you are tapped out. If you see your opponent is also tapping out to play something, this becomes 'As an additionial cost to Daze, return an island you control to its owner's hand: Counter target spell.'

So, this remains useful in late game, when you prolly have more than enough mana in play anyway.

sorry but i'm going to type in caps for this question, the urge is too strong:

WHY IS THIS CARD WORTH 3 DOLLARS NON-FOILED WHILE THE FOILED VERSION IS 50 DOLLARS?!?!?!?

ugh... i know i must've had one in my old box that i threw away not long ago...the foiled one that is...

It's so fun to play this with Rhystic Study.

Me: "I see you left one mana open. Do you pay the extra 1? You will notice that I'm tapped out."

Opponent: "Hmm, yeah. What else am I going to do with that one lousy mana?"

Me: >: ) "It was probably a lousy spell in the first place."

Of course, the over-confident control player across the table from you doesn't like when you Daze their Daze.

I wouldn't mind seeing this reprinted with new art. The dizzy-guy-on-the-verge-of-tears vibe has always creeped me out a little.

I'm hoping this gets reprinted as a split card, with this as it is being the first half, and the other being called "Confuse".

"Someone explain why this card is still all the rage. ... I suppose IF you get to play first turn of the game Daze works, but otherwise you'll now be 2 lands behind on your opponents turn 3. "

In the right decks (ones with low casting cost creatures and spells), being behind one land is a minor concern if you can counter a T1 or T2 threat that would otherwise have cost you the game.

For example, if this made a comeback in Standard, people would actually have a chance to counter a T1 or T2 Delver of Secrets. I'd rather be one Island down than have an early 3/2 flyer breathing down my neck for several turns.

the beauty of this card, is that it's absolutely fantastic, even when it isn't played.

this card can really break an opponent's early game (e.g. dark ritual + phyrexian obliterator)and 80% of the time they won't see it coming unless they've played your deck before. even if you can't use it, it will force your opponent to have a more defensive playstyle, which blue likes.

additionally, this is great fodder for a force of will especially late game, when your opponents can have excess mana

Force of Will?: $69.99
Daze? : $3.99
The look on your opponent's face when you exile Elvish Spirit Guide to evade his Daze? Priceless.

If {1}{U} will get you a counterspell unless they pay {3}, and {U} will get you a counterspell unless they pay {2}, then {0} will get you a counterspell unless they pay {1}. FOW is just a hipster.

If this were modern legal, it would run modern in the same way that Force of Will runs Legacy. It would effectively be like having a Leyline on the field that said 'Spells your opponents control cost 1 more as long as you control an Island' because everyone would play around it, regardless of whether you had it or not.

The sole reason why Pauper is broken.

That being said, NEEDS a reprint...
