Courier Hawk, you've come back! Did you bring the Vulshok Gauntlets this time? We've got a bit of an infection to clean up around here.

rated lower than Courier Hawk, despite being in a relevant tribe and not needing colored mana. I like a flying myr in myr tribal.

Screw you, Storm Crow.

4.5/5 for ACTUALLY being a stricly better storm crow.

Also a very playable card. Hooray for flying myr!

When I saw this my first reaction was, "poor, poor Courier Hawk. No longer are you the Baneslayer Angel of 2 mana birds." Then I realized that this also outclasses the other 2 mana myr, and just had to drop the mic and walk out.

Just drop the mic....

I've been a pure Phyrexian this whole time. Then I read this card. Now I'm sad and I feel sorry for the mirrans... WAAAAAAAAUUUGH Phyrexians shouldn't think like that should they... I think I need to be re-compleated... ;(

Strictly worse than Storm Crow because Storm Crow requires you to play Islands which can be used to cast more Storm Crows.

I really like it. First (and hopefully last) time I call a magic card cute, not to mention the flavor. Plus it's pretty much ultra efficient, great for any casual artifact deck's curve, and possibly even filler for some more competitive decks.

At prerelease, my opponent smiled rather smugly when he played this. I raised him a Pristine Talisman and proceeded to beat him up in later turns pretty easily.

Hovermyr < Stormcrow because Stormcrow teaches players to play this kind of creature in Blue.

Yes, I am being snarky.

D'aww. So cute.

Not quite as cute as Brass Squire, I think. But still really cute. And actually pretty useful, too; flying and vigilance is a good combination, and to give that to any deck that wants it for 2 colorless is quite good. I'm glad they gave it a 2-butt, also.

Green and Red probably shouldn't have access to fliers this efficient. Strictly better than Utvara Scalper, and that is as good as you can get with 2 red mana.
Heck, I feel guilty putting arcbound stinger in a green deck.

NOOO Beist not led into temptation! Thy lord the Storm Crow and his holy unity of Strictly Betterness shall lead us all into the light with Tribal Birds decks! Seriously, nobody uses Vigilance except some weird creature combo decks with noninstant nonsorcery nonland cards, and Myr is a nearly useless tribe. Storm Crow knows all, sees all, is all, and swings for all. Come, thy priests of the Crow, and let us worship in the temple of the Wood Elemental, under the gaze of the Chimney Imp.

@Shadoflaam: Please explain to me how myr are usless as a tribe? 2 Galvs, 1 Palladium Myr (or any two one-ramps myrs). Infinity Mana. End of story.

Though I'll be the first to admit that without the galvs, myr would be pretty much like any other random creature type, except there's a lot of them.

Awesome card is awesome. Flying myr. Exactly what my deck needed. The Vigilance is just a nice bonus that allows you to peck at your opponent early game and still be ready to chump block.

Will need four for my Myr collection regardless of playability. As it is, though, highly playable and highly awesome.

EDIT: The more I look at this card, the more I like it, which is saying a lot since I adored it as soon as I saw it. This guy is not only strictly better than Omega Myr, but he is also largely better than Alpha Myr, too, since Alpha is stuck fighting on the ground. No, he doesn't make mana, like some of his more popular cousins, but that isn't the point. He is the most combat-viable turn-two myr available short of any VERY lucky draw that somehow manages to power Myr Superion out.

This little dude is going right into my Myr Tribal deck in place of Alpha.

EDIT #2: Something interesting I have noticed since playtesting this guy: he is awesome. He fits perfectly into the curve in a Myr-themed deck. He hits the board early as a minor flying in the air or he can be tutored out with the mana from Myr Reservoir. Late game, if you somehow haven't gotten a Battlesphere out yet, once you have your Galvanizers/Tempereds/Myr Matrices/whatever artifact buffs on the board, he drops as a major threat. One Tempered Steel makes him un-Boltable. My favorite card from the set, by a wide margin.

What's the longest chain of strict upgrades you can construct with this guy?
2:
Bird Maiden/Goblin Glider/Utvara Scalper < Hovermyr

3:
Vodalian Soldiers < Storm Crow < Hovermyr
Sea Eagle < Storm Crow < Hovermyr
Moon Sprite < Willow Faerie < Hovermyr
Sea Eagle < Zephyr Falcon < Hovermyr
Squire < Omega Myr < Hovermyr

4:
Squire < Armored Pegasus < Courier Hawk < Hovermyr
Royal Falcon < Armored Pegasus < Courier Hawk < Hovermyr
Royal Falcon < Skyshroud Falcon < Courier Hawk < Hovermyr

This pair of abilities is killer.
Get in evasion damage, and still be able to block anything that isn't unblockable?
I have him in my own version of Tempered Stell archetype, and often, when watching people play what's call the "Hawkward" deck, or a small deviation from it, I notice that they do not use him.
It might just be me, but I believe it's negligent to not run this guy in this archetype.
If you don't have room, find room. It's worth it.

@Myr Battlecube.

But Hovermyrs not strictly better then squire because squire is white!! and Hovermyr can get hit by shatter!!! or plummet!!!

Hey if there hitting ur hovermyr with either of those your 2 DROP just more then payed for itself. and if they hit squire with a go for the throat then ur opponent has down syndrom.

Ya you can say, but squire can get pumped by a lord, or honor of the pure.. ect

But thats only in a very specific deck, and hovermyr can fit into ANY deck with LANDS.

SOOOO I see your definition, but it fails. In a contained instance, hovermyr is not strictly better then so and so. but all day long..... IT IS.

What in the heck am I reading in here? Strictly better than this and that and whatnot? No, no it's not. It's far preferable, but not strictly better than any of the names being tossed around here. Go learn what strictly better means before using it like that. I'll get y'all started.

If it's strictly better, that means it has all of(or even less than) the flaws/vulnerabilities of what the worse card without gaining any new vulnerabilities. An artifact creature has a different set of weaknesses than non-artifact creatures, so it's not better. Flying is a nice gain, but there's plenty of anti-flying tech, so Hovermyr is not strictly better than Omega Myr, for Omega Myr isn't affected by the vast amounts of flying hate. There are often benefits to having color. Hovermyr isn't going to benefit from anything that boosts red like Utvara Scalper will. The Scalper also gains from the vast amounts of Goblin tribal love out there. Hovermyr has to sit on the wayside for that.

Now then, I'm not saying Hovermyr doesn't up and outclass all those creatures, but it isn't a strictly better card. So the next time you start to think something is strictly better/worse than something else, just stop, because there's a good chance you're wrong. You might be right, but you're probably wrong.

@TheWrathofShane ...that's pretty much what I said. Not strictly better than anything, but far preferable. Far more useful. Still not strictly better.

about time myr tribal got a solid flier, particularly good in constructed decks. Running it alongside Indomitable Archangel if your concerned about flying and artifact hate. While your at it, run Brass Squire, Puresteel Paladin, Etched Champion, and other solid equipment.

A great creature for the mana cost. No downside at all other than the usual vulnerability to both artifact and creature removal.

I'm a huge fan of the Myr and always try to fit them in my decks. At my local FNM and at the Innistrad Game Day in another town, this little guy is a turn two house in my Tempered Steel. I happily trade the card advantage I may get from using Origin Spellbomb for three copies of this guy that poke in for one every turn until Tempered Steel hits the board.

My fondest multiplayer memory to date is dropping Mishra, Artificer Prodigy and then following up with a pair of Hovermyr. As in, casting two of them and fetching the other two.

Man, I just don't know. This is competing for a spot in my Tempered Steel deck with Glint Hawk Idol. On one hand, it has vigilance and is always a creature. On the other, it has one less power and is always a creature. Gah, decisions!

The new Baneslayer Angel of two-mana birds. Or rather two-mana flying myrs.

This Myr was created when Memnarch, admirative of the Storm Crow's grace and power, decided to pour some Liquimetal Coating on one.

Although it fills an important Niche within Myr decks, I would rather it was a 2/1 with Flying and First strike. Much more useful.

This is really just a solid card, theres not much else to say about it. A 1/2 flier for 2 mana? Decent. Been printed before (you all know which card I'm talking about). A 1/2 flier with for 2 with vigilance? Even better, however, it's also prone to artifact removal. That seems like a good trade to me. But on top of all that, it's a Myr, and with all the Myr tribal insanity going on out there (Myr Battlesphere, Myr Galvanizer, Lodestone Myr etc) that's a huge benefit. And the icing on the cake is that it's a common, so sticking four of them in your deck is absolutely no problem, even for a casual player.

At the prerelease, this cleaned the place up, since there were are very few kill spells in New Phyrexia. Highly underrated.

Plus, we need a plushie, stat.

Don't forget it also benefits from Tempered Steel, making this a slightly less powerful Serra Angel for two mana.

A great card to throw a few of in an artifact deck. Sure it could be more useful as a 2/1 but there are plenty of options for boosting him when it comes to artifact decks anyway so I don't mind his 1/2. Love the artwork and really enjoy the flavour-text:)

Dafuq? TWOOOOO colorless mana?!?....

It's even cheaper than storm crow...

But in all seriousness this guy is extremely efficient. It's one of those cards that's just fun. Doesn't have any profound effect on a format, doesn't drive you're friends up the wall every time you cast it (Iona, Shield of Emeria), it's just good fun.

4/5. Great art too.

@xaipe24: I don't think you understand "strictly better". Throw all hypothetical situations out the window aside from this one: You have a deck that is a stack of 59 basic lands. Which card would you rather put in your deck as number 60?
Taudisban
☆☆☆☆☆ (0.0/5.0)
I know that this isn't technically strictly better than Storm Crow but it is still far far better. Artifact isn't even really a weakness, hate for it only exists in sideboards and generally is still only a one for one in the vast majority of cases. Artifacts also gets far more support than blue creatures.

Essentially, yes, being an artifact makes it not strictly better but at the point where you put this card in your deck, I guarantee it will be better than Storm Crow in every situation that actually comes up.

@Hedronmyr

If you add the price of Tempered Steel to the Hovermyr, it actually costs the same.
RustyKeyes
☆☆☆☆☆ (0.0/5.0)
I actually wish this didn't have vigilance; I'm working on a teaching deck and a cheap flier to go in anything is really nice to have, but I dislike being unable to unilaterally say all creatures tap when they attack.
