This card is horribly evil against the Bring About the Undead Apocalypse because only two cards out of that entire deck can actually do anything to Colossus, those being Artisan of Kozilek and Volcano Trap. Infest isn't enough to kill it and while Rakdos Guildmage can summon Goblins to try and stop Colossus, it costs 8 mana and 2 discards to do this and Colossus can just power up to solve this problem. o_o

surely you jest, good sir. Do you not see protection from black? Doom blade cannot hit it. Terror shall never strike it down. Nary a single terminate will come his way. Protection from black outright stops traditional black removal in its tracks.
Also, it has 4 toughness, out of reach of the standard 3-damage burn spells. If something bigger targets it, it can simply pump itself up a few times and stay out of reach.
White is the only color that can effectively target and remove it. But still, it is a hell of a lot harder to kill than most green fatties.

Just had a huge Timmy moment with this card today. Pulled off Nissa Revane's ultimate with a fully leveled Joraga Treespeaker out and swung with this for somewhere in the ballpark of 10,000,000+ damage.
As for the card itself, it's one of the better changelings, I think. The protection from black does seem random, but it's better than having no sort of evasion whatsoever or eating a Doom Blade or Go for the Throat. Being nothing more than a dude with the potential to get huge holds back so many other cards that look and have every right to be awesome (like this guy's buddy Taurean Mauler who had so much hype when he was spoiled and then just kinda fell flat or Mold Adder). So the pro-black really pushes this over the top into awesome territory.
Why not spend on Rancor first? (But then again, why not Rancoranything first?) Our colossal friend can become a 24/22 trampler for the low, low cost of only ! That's only 7 green! If you order now, we'll include a complementary Flooded Grove to convert that you spent on Training Grounds for no additional mana cost! Don't hesitate! With our Rancor to augment your pre-existing Chameleon Colossus/Training Grounds combo-deck, you could easily be ending your games on turn four! Call now! (Only available while mana supplies last. You may be ineligible to receive Flooded Grove if you already have Birds of Paradise for your mana-needs. Offer is void in Nebraska.)
@Ragamander I thought of that idea too. :) I guess nothing is new under the sun, huh. You might as well use 4 abundant growths as well for mana fixing. They cantrip and lets a basic land tap for any color(like a Mox Diamond ... that can't be smelted for )

For 8 green mana (and this isn't hard - this is green we're talking about), he becomes a 64/64.
My good sirs, this is a good card.
