Wonder if that little foot guy is uncomfortable.

Also: that's one weird looking pirate.

@ Darthparallax, there's a reason for printing in this "From the Vaults".

Since Wizards is celebrating Magic's 20th anniversary, they printed this with a card from each years Standard tournament that made a big deal. The article that explains this is here: (http://www.wizards.com/magic/magazine/article.aspx?x=mtg/daily/rc/259). Go down to "Twenty cards from From the Vault: 20)

In short, Chameleon Colossus was an amazing finisher in some guys Black/Green Elves deck in 2008. Mistform Ultimus probably wasn't (not that you thought it would be).

I don't think this needs mentioning but this is an amazing card for equipment/Aura decks and it is a very power card against the right deck ---- @DarthParalllax congrats on becoming the next TimmyForever --

I am sorry but as I hate Changelings, I cannot give this a good rating -_- I'd prefer it if they'd Vaulted Mistform Ultimus. :P Yes, I'm one of Those Guys.

I know it was like, powerful and crap or whatever? But I mean, so are a lot of the M14 Slivers and those all suck too. :P I am a fuddy-duddy from a bygone era.....

"These Times, They Are A-Change..ling"

No hard feels :) <3

I mean....Ferlord is right and all....I am saying that, for the 2008 slot, they should have picked a different high profile card. Like, say, Bitterblossom. Since you know, Faeries completely raped everyone a bit there, kinda anally, and therefore since I don't think Bitterblossom is legal in Modern, it was not in Modern Masters, and people would have eaten that up. :P

Something from a BOGEYMAN deck, not just something that did well for a season. Something that from a deck that was so cool and powerful that Wizards decided it didn't want newer seasons to have decks like that, causing them to try to power-creep in a downward direction. :P I wanted THOSE kinds of cards. The ones that feel like From the Vault Exiled and Relics. :)

And there actually have been cards like that from every year of Magic, so they could have.

master-biomancer LoL: I've been around Gatherer way longer than all the Trolls except MOE. And I question my own opinions often, even though I stand up for what I like pretty hard, which is something that definitively separates me from trolls. I miss Master of Etherium though. HE WAS FUNNY :D WHERE DID HE GO? I HOPE THEY MAKE A CARD OUT OF HIM XD

With Theros just over the horizon, this guy is about to become a god... not that he wasn't already.

It's legitimate to judge a card by many criterion, not just one.

For Timmy, Spike, and Johnny, it's OK to say "this card is for you/this card is NOT for you"

For the Color Wheel, it's ok to argue *what* belongs in what color, or what colors could use a change, a New Thing, but it's NOT okay to say "yeah but the Color Pie just doesn't matter this time."

For the Melvin-Vorthos issues, it's NOT ok, in my opinion, to say that it's alright for a card to be "Not for Vorthos", OR "Not for Melvin", because every Jank Limited Playable Common proves that you can design, literally, thousands of cards of any kind you want that please The Color Wheel, Vorthos and Melvin all at the same time, irregardless of whether the card is "Also a Timmy card", "Also a Johnny card", or "Also a Spike card"

This card to me immediately hits Timmy nicely- it's a Green fatty, and TimmyForever *really* hates Blue and Black, so Protection from the Horribly Unfun Counterspell or Doom Blade colors is always nice. :)

For Johnny, there's admittedly a lot of "AHA!" moments you can have just from the Changeling keyword and the Shapeshifter type, not to mention that it's got a Doubling Ability, and we all know Johnny likes Doubling.

For Spike, he *loves* that this is a 4/4 for four mana with pseudo Evasion *and* is harder to Remove.
(Protection can be used offensively and defensively- unblockable as well as untargetable! sorry for the "Duh" moment xP )

So Johnny, Spike, and Timmy all like this card. Well- why isn't it PERFECT for the Vault then?
I don't know what Melvin thinks of it in the context of Lorwyn Block, but in the context of this commemorative Box, Melvin appreciates it was a high-impact Tournament Staple.

Here is the Thing:

Look at Limited Edition: Alpha. I would be fairly unsurprised if Spike and Johnny couldn't find ten whole cards they liked in the whole set. That set is FULL TO THE BRIM of cards for Melvin and Vorthos and Timmy though. Vorthos pretty much loves every card in Alpha.

Spike DOES love the Power, a little *too much*...but there aren't many of them, and they're all Blue, Black, or Artifact (extend your definition of "Power" here). and anyway the problem is that Spike and Melvin are at complete odds over Alpha, when *normally* Melvin and Spike tend to agree on things, and Timmy and Vorthos tend to agree to disagree with Melvin and Spike. Spike might even be able to find a handful of cards in other colors he likes, but.....in a 295 card set, Spike *really does* have trouble composing a "Top 10 Green" or "Top 10 White" cards. That's a huge problem.

Vorthos is divided into two camps over the Changeling type: Those who say "That is the flavor of Lorwyn" and those who say "That is Not the flavor of Magic as a whole".

It's ok for Magic to redefine itself, but just how okay is it to stray from the Core? From Alpha? At what point do you say "we can keep making this changing, evolving, game, but we need to change the name too, and this is no longer Magic, and it will not keep the next name we pick either."

Vorthos asks questions like this, and some Vorthoses disagree with the Changeling Mechanic. Because it's more important for cards to be "For Vorthos And for Melvin" than it is for them to be "For Johnny, For Timmy, or For Spike", then this card's "Vaultability" is questionable.

And you still have another card in hand so you can Mental Misstep them if they play a fog. If they play another, beat them to death with their own chair.

Analyzing in a vacuum. Body equal to cmc and a very good protection ability. 4 toughness puts him out of lightning bolt range and he doesnt die to doom blade.

On your first swing with him, you can threaten to make him an 8/8. Eight freaking eight. That alone is either pseudo evasion or pseudo removal, depending if your opponent is willing to get hit. If they choose not to block you are free to cast something else or pay 4 for 4 extra damage. If you hit eight mana, you can beef him up to 16/16.

Basically its a very efficient card and it has a built in win condition as well. A basic green beatdown deck could run x4 of this and it would be a strong backbone.
