Looks like i've found a friend for Ornithopter and Shield Sphere.

Most people seem to like Ornithopter, this guy is such a refreshing change... But don't seem to come by/ see him as much as ornithopter though....

Fantasticly useless quick defensive drops that works well with artifact affinity. I usually ran four of these (and four Ornithopters) in a casual Urza-block-era Tolarian Academy deck for Tinker fodder, cheap defense, and good artifact affinity.

Flavor text is awfully over-dramatic for a 0 power creature. Good card tho.

Holy Smoke!!!!! Steel Overseer decks are going to be in the works with the 0 CMC creatures with Doubling Season for Legacy for sure!!!!... I'm sure other alternatives will present themselves for Standard type 2 when Scars of Mirrodin shows up on the scene! I guess I'm going to have to get all the 0 CMC creatures to see if it'll work out for an artifacts weenie/horde deck.

@mad theroist: he's talking about phyrexia. The fact he saw the walker instills fear that phyrexia exists.
I have a feeling we'll be seeing this in Mirrodin Besieged. If not, then I'd be really confused.

Well what does it do?
Walking Eye!
Well it has a camera, Iris mounted lasers, monkey proof welding, and silent stealth design that makes it perfect for reconnaissance applications.
Walking Eye Hank. They're all the same.

Omega, what are you doing? Final Fantasy V is over there!
Dammit, I'd love to see a reprint in New Phyrexia!

With a name and flavor text like that, I expected another Phyrexian Dreadnought, but a free 0/3???

Oh what I would give for a reprint of this card... Three zero cost artifact creatures, with Steel Overseer? Now that'd be fun.

This guy, Ornithopter, and Memnite: the holy trinity of 0-drop vanilla artifact creatures. All three are excellent for fueling affinity and other artifact-intensive strategies. Personally, I like this guy the best because he can soak up early damage like a boss (though if your opponent runs a lot of fliers, Ornithopter may be better.)

InQuest magazine rated this as the worst card in Visions. This was the same magazine that rated Dream Halls the worst card in Stronghold.
Unlike the Dream Halls debacle this time they had an excuse for not realizing this card's potential. At the time this was printed there weren't a lot of cards that cared about artifacts, and equipment didn't exist, so they can be forgiven for not seeing the power of a 0 CMC critter right off the bat. They were all like "It's worse than Ornithopter because it doesn't fly!"
Fast forward to Urza's Saga, Tolarian Academy, and suddenly we all learned the power of 0 cost artifacts. Then came Mirroden...and now what was once considered the epitome of crap is getting 4-star ratings. How the times have changed.

The flavor text is referring to the walker as a herald. Once he saw the walker he started to fear the might of Phyrexia.

As a great fan of Phyrexia, I can't but admire this masterpiece of engineering: it blocks, it is fuel for Phyrexian sacrifice powerful effects, it's a giant spider-like robot... But above all, a zero-cost creature with no drawback is 5/5 no matter what!
Kasib ibn Naji is clearly not having a good day in Mirage block. First he witnesses Telim'Tor's Edict, then he gets caught in a field of Elephant Grass, and finally he sees a Phyrexian Walker and realizes Phyrexia is real and that Yawgmoth is coming to destroy the world.

I think this is significantly better than Memnite. In a world of increasingly efficient 1 and 2 power threats (i.e. Snapcaster, Geist of Saint Traft, etc) I'd much rather have a more resilient creature that soak up early damage when I need it to. The automatic 1 power is almost irrelevant when you think about it. With Steel Overseer, I'd rather have a 1/4 than a 2/2 in most circumstances. Given that I play a more defensive/control-oriented version of the robots deck, this suits me just fine. Factor in the fact that it's Phyrexian and the art is WAY sweeter, I'm sold.

The essential companion to old, retired Phyexians. Also rather handy for Tinkering into a Blightsteel Colossus as I found out at last night's FNM.

This card is basically an object lesson in how important environment is to a card's power level.
At the time it was printed, it was a mildly interesting but mostly useless curiosity.
Then came Tolarian Academy, Tinker, and Goblin Welder, and it was nice to have around as a defense that could fuel those cards; but still nothing amazing.
Then we got Affinity decks and Steel Overseer and Tempered Steel, and now in the right deck this is basically a mox that can also block for you early on and become a beatstick later.
Turn 1: This, Swamp, tap for , Unholy Strength. Turn 2 (assuming opponent played no creature): Swamp, tap for , Dark Ritual, another Walker or tap other Swamp and cast black one-drop, attack with first Walker, Tainted Strike, Wicked Reward, opponent has 7 Poison already.

This is strictly cooler than Ornithopter (strictly cooler in the sense of being generally cooler, not in the sense of being cooler in every situation - both usages are correct, but it seems like MtG internet enthusiasts are passionate about which definition is preferable and are apparently oblivious that both usages are widely accepted in extra-MtG contexts. pro tip: save the passion for issues that matter - issues like genocide, the OED's inclusion of "figuratively" as a definition of "literally", and the appropriateness of the Oxford/serial comma).

The overdramatic flavor text is actually a joke; it was once believed 0-cost creatures were overpowered.

Gonna be using this in my upcoming Pauper Kuldotha Rebirth deck. Probably the second-best 0-drop artifact creature at common, it 3 toughness discouraging early assaults while being an excellent sacrifice target (Shield Sphere just usurps its place, even if it does have defender.)
