This dude rocks some socks off, the only downside to Mr. Dragon here is that you have to be playing 3 colors, too bad it isnt green so you can just fudge the BR part of its mana cost. :P

8/8 for six mana? Awesome!

At first, you might look at this and think "only flying and all it does is make a lame token?" in contrast to stuff like flameblast dragon or predator dragon. Of course, it's much better, because you get the two 4/4's for 6 mana, meaning you just slapped down TWO evasive threats on the table.

Pretty much autowin in limited.

Broodmate Dragon... I underestimated this dragon so bad. Then when I realized BW Tokens and Vengeant Lark were in such a rise among other strong aggro decks, Broodmate became a necessity. This card has very nice defensive capabilities and when once you take the reigns in any given game, the card allows you to just win.

I owe a lot to this dragon. He gets 5 stars from me. You guys have no idea how unfair this creature can be, especially when paired with a Cruel Ultimatum.

Pretty much the only creature necessary to run in five color control and definitely one of my favorite cards

About the only fat monster in Alara block I would actually have any interest in running. I'm not into big creatures and they have to do a lot while remaining somewhat 'fair' to impress me - but six mana for eight flying power with no inbuilt protection nails that absolutely bang on.

i love Broodmate Dragon. This is a game finisher. It is like two 3 mana for a 4/4, but in one card.

Incredibly efficient. Two dragons for the price of one! I won't forget how one of my opponents Oblivion Ring'd him, and then the dragon returned with yet another mate. :)

I go first:
My turn 6 Flameblast Dragon, 5/5 for 6 mana.
Your Turn 6, Brodmate Dragon, 2 4/4's for 6 mana, you think it's game...
My turn 7, swing with Flameblast, pay 5 mana, kill 1 toekn with the damage you block, oh dear bye bye brrodmate

In short, Flameblast is better

I've tested the atypical jund deck with flameblasts over the broodmates and I can say with the utmost certainty that I found flameblast more effective overall. Broodmate deals with removal better for obvious reasons, but that is the only edge it has. Flameblast is clearly more effective.

I really don't understand how pro players think sometimes, but then again i'm not a pro player heh.

I agree its a good card.. but I disagree thats its a great card. What's great about it is if your opponent has an immediate removal they still have a big dragon to deal with, the equivalent of an air elemental at 4/4 and flying. On the other hand, if your opponent doesn't have a removal there are much better cards, namely oona, flameblast dragon, and dragon broodmother.

Flameblast dragon for example, simply finishes a game by attacking and pumping it's x cost, where as you have to run around trying to get your dragons past your opponent with broodmate. It's better to simply end a game than get 2 big creatures but keep it going. So, still an awesome card, but I like flameblast dragon better. There are also more than one way to kill multiple creatures at the same time including lavalanche which happens to be in the same set and deals damage to your opponent to boot in the same colors as flameblast/broodmate. Then hurricane also, and arashi, and silklash spider, and windstorm, and galeforce, to name only a few of many cards that can deal multiple damage to flyers. There's also karrthus if you can ever get out a creature with that high a cmc. Sphinx of the steelwind would also just devastate these poor lil dragons.

dude this dragon beats down hard. Broodmate Dragon is my favorite dragon becuase I get two 4/4 flyer for GBR3 mana cost. also one dragon is black so is anti-doom blade and yet the other is red. even if my opponent plays path to exile i still have the other dragon. last if he goes to the graveyard i cant still return him to the battlefield with Rise From The Grave!!! and yet another token!!!

Terminate doesn't rid you of this. Lightning Bolt doesn't even rid you of half of this. Maelstrom Pulse can't even get rid of this, either.

Frustrating as hell to deal with. Counter this immediately, if not sooner.

This and Sprouting Thrinax are why I hate Jund. Cascade's taken care of by Double Negative and counters in general. The creature advantage threats are what's really the big problem for me as a control player; I have to waste my removal not once, but twice. :|

Stick a Splinter Twin on him and maybe even a Doubling Season.

Doubling season makes two tokens from Splinter Twin, then those each make two more because of Doubling Season! Boom, six 4/4 flyers, two of which have haste, from just tapping.

Broodmate has won me too many standstill matches for it not to deserve a good rating. I know that plenty are switching him/her(depending upon which mate you believe is on the card) for more Siege-gangs, Abyssals, or Venvegines, but I still run a trio with a pair of Siege-Gangs. Whenever the pair hits the field my opponent usually enters scoop phase. Two flying, 8/8 bodies in the air is either a great threat or a strong blocker, and the bonus of the opponent having to use multiple removal spells to take them down make them perfect for me. I'm only sad to see it rotate out and hope that I get a good replacement for it soon.

ezenthar: one of the dragons that comes into play is a token, so you would only get 3 dragons with reflector

Efficient against a deck with single-target removal, immune to Doomblade, great with revival like Makeshift mannequin, and 8 power in the air for 6cmc.

One of my favourite creature from that block.

It's card like these that made me glad when Jund rotated out. That multicolour cycle made boosters very bad, since each card only fit in certain special decks, and jund had too many overpowered cards with regard to effect compared to CMC. 2 flying 4/4's for 6 CMCis too much. Glad I don't have to face jund decks in standard anymore.

@ laguuz
this was probably played over flame blast because of the card advantage. its a good beatstick, and to remove it it would take 2 removal cards. removal was so powerful that this pushed it into teh deck over flame blast. in reality, you were probably paying 6: target player discards removal. put a 4/4 dragon into play.

Hah. Unsummon doesn't rid you of this, just the token. Such wonderful design in a card.

@ Sironos:

If you can't beat 'em, join em. It's fun to play Jund in extended.

Flameblast was arguable better - if it stuck around. The problem was, Broodmate caused problems even if they had removal in hand, as they still had to deal with a 4/4 flier. Flameblast caused no problems if it was removed straight away.

Of course, then the Titans came along, and the three colors of Broodmate are all overshadowed by their respective Titans. =P

One of the better dragons in my opinion- a pair of 4/4 flyers for 6 mana, and seriously ripe for combos. Mimic Vat's an obvious, as is Parallel Lives (and the pair together... two temporary dragons, and a pair of permanent ones, all for 3 mana and a tapped artifact...)
bansheemane
☆☆☆☆☆ (0.0/5.0)
@Eddie: Actually, you even get two temporary dragons, and for each of them, two permanent. Do the math.

For 5 mana, you get Fusion Elemental, an 8/8, and that's pretty good for vanilla creatures, tbh. Mono-Green is creeping up to beat that old impressive 5-drop, but it'll be a while before he's actually obsolete. Broodmate Dragon is essentially an 8/8 for 6 six mana, -with flying-, that's more splashable than Fusion Elemental.

Certainly this was incredibly impressive from Alara Block through M11, though the Mythic Titans sort of shame it. If you're looking for a 'GoodStuffs' Creature and don't want to feel like a cheap jerk with Baneslayers and Thragtusks, but you need WAY more power these days than a piddly little Serra Angel, Broodmate Dragon is going to be a staple as a Creature Finisher in Control Decks for a LONG time.

Even after it appears it'll get Power-Creep crushed to death, the fact that it's two creatures, not one, is relevant enough to give it a longer lease on playability than many Alara creatures have been getting.

Now there's entreat the angels. Which for 7 mana does what this does for 6. If you don't miracle it.

Still, that's in completely different colors. This still has its place.

Great with an Ogre Battledriver in play.
Pay 6, swing for 12.

Or Minion Reflector
Pay 2 more: three 4/4 dragons who stay and a 4/4 dragon who can swing

8 power for 6 mana. Talk about mana efficiency.
