unfortunately this card does not consistently close the circle of the lace cards (Purelace, Thoughtlace, Deathlace, Chaoslace and Lifelace)
i'd have prefered to see this card printed the time they introduce colorless Instants and Sorceries (so to say, unlike Ghostfire, also with colorless mana cost)

Could be fun with Dromar, the Banisher... but that doesn't help its case much.

I would like it more if it cantripped.

I can actually think of uses for this. For example, in a Grixis deck, cast it on Terminate to get around protection from black or red.

Beautiful artwork, and an awesomely powerful card, if I can just find out what it is for.

Nice card, has a variety of uses. Good against protection and anti-blue, works well with intimidate (if a creature is colorless, other creatures can't 'share a color' with it), deals with spells that effect permanents that share a color with their target, helps against anything else that cares about color.

Interesting effect, but I have trouble thinking of any time where it would be worth the trouble of including in a deck.

Would look much more favorable if it cantripped.

If has it's uses, but a rare? Seriously?

Might be more useful now with all the colorless spell interactions in Rise of the Eldrazi.

Theres like NO colorless spell interactions in rise of the eldrazi. Like none.

Works with All Is Dust. It took long enough for this card to have a practical use. But that's what I like about the Time Spiral block. The cards are so oddball and neat interactions are showing up everywhere.

Is this for getting around protection from colours?

Target Mortician Beetle with this and drop an All Is Dust

Fun for gaea's revenge haters.

The only Eldrazi card this goes with is All Is Dust, unfortunately. It's a good example of Time Spiral's useful weirdness.

@TheTraitorKing

Only if the creature is granted protection once Terminate is already on the stack. Remember, the target must be legal at the time you cast the spell for it to be a legal play.

Imura has the right idea.

This card is good ... You can change doom blade to colorless to destroy Emrakul or other black creatures. or destroy color protected creatures like Akroma, Angel of Wrath by changing Terror to colorless.

Brainstorm or Ponder have more interactions than this...

@sedris
you cant cast this on a terminate, because terminate has to target something and protection prevents targeting. you'll have to do it imura's way

Flavor text is a reference to Pale Moon's.

I love those little tidbits they put into this block.

I consider this to have the best artwork of any card in magic the gathering. Anyways, I think this card may be more fair if it had an extra little effect, like "draw a card"or something

rating is too high. This barely deserves a single star.

It should have been:

Moonlace - U
Instant
The next spell you cast this turn is colorless.

Would have made this card a thousand times better.

should have cost {1} and been a future sight shift (colourless spells were new) to fit with the other laces

yay, i can doom blade emrakul
adrian.malacoda
★★☆☆☆ (2.8/5.0) (2 votes)
@rspitzy

You can but you can't target Emrakul directly with the doom blade, since protection directly prevents you from targeting in the first place. You'd have to cast the doom blade on some other creature, turn it colorless with the moonlace, and then redirect the doom blade to Emrakul.

Yeah, I wish it just cost 1 colorless. Wouldn't have been out of line considering the other shenanigans in Time Spiral.

Every card in Time Spiral was a reference to an older card.

This one is worthless and inexplicably rare as a reference a cycle and series of worthless, inexplicably-rare cards that have disappointed players since Alpha.

Nearly every card in Time Spiral block was a throwback to at least one previously printed card.

This card references two different cards with the dubious reputation of being the worst rares ever printed: Pale Moon and the cycle of Laces like Deathlace.

This card is so narrow it needs to be colorless so decks will not be restricted from using it.

If you used this on a General in EDH would it make it that that player wouldn't be able to play their colored spells?

Me: I'll play rest in peace and doom blade your mana dork
Opponent: Kay
Me: WAIT! Moonlace on doom blade, redirect, to Emmy :p
Opponent: ...I really hate you...

@Imura: That actually doesn't work. Copying happens on the first layer, which means that the copied spell doesn't have any alterations (such as the Color Changing Effect here, which is applied in the 5th layer) caused by other spells. Your copied Path to Exile is not colorless, and therefore not capable of targeting Emrakul, the Aeons Torn.

What you would need is a card like Redirect to change the target of Path to Exile (and the original target gets to stick around).

If you're curious, there's a good article about layers here: http://www.wizards.com/magic/magazine/article.aspx?x=judge/article/20091105a

Would have been nice if it were red.

Hey, who the hell gave me 0.5 out of 5 stars? Seriously, what was wrong with my comment? Would it NOT be nice if Moonlace were red, so you could get around Circles of Protection and such? Just for that, I'm giving every single comment here 0.5 out of 5. Screw you guys. :-P

@ Sour_Diesel - it was supposed to be a joke. :-(
Everybody on The Gatherer hates me. ;-(
And the censors bleeped out your comment, so I'll never know just what you wanted to say about me. ;-(
