It's pretty much a better, instant speed Fireball. And I mean a lot better. You pay an extra {R} to cast it, and you still need to pay the {1} to hit something else, but the damage isn't divided. It just gets dealt to both targets, and they both get smacked for the full amount.
It's a strong and fun spell. It doesn't shine until later in the game, and will at times be outclassed by Earthquake and even Fireball, but that's true of every card. It's good at what it does, and it's flavorful while it does it.

Saved my ass at the limited prerelease a number of times (pulled one outside of the foil for participation). I underestimated it. I took creatures (Summit apes and 5/2, greenweaver druid at 1/1 and crusher zendikon at 4/2) for six mana. field was wiped for him and I just needed to chip away at him for the win. Maybe won't find a place in constructed outside of casual decks, but its definitely a bomb in limited.

Sidek
★☆☆☆☆ (1.9/5.0)(7 votes)
Clearly underrated. Sure, very early in the game this spell is out-shined by Fireball or Banefire, but that isn't all that relevant.
At 4 mana it equals Fireball for multi-target. At 5 mana it equals Fireball for single-target, beats it at multi-target. From 6 mana and up it beats Fireball for everything. At 10 mana it one-shots your opponent for 20 damage. :) (unlikely to happen, but still a mention-worthy fact)
The comparison to Earthquake is unfair, as they are different mechanics, but do notice that Comet Storm will hit fliers.
You CAN choose the same target as many times as you want as an additional target, so... Calculations for single-targeting: (take T as the number of targets chosen, counting the original).
Up to 4 mana, inclusive - Irrelevant, 2 damage 5 mana - T=2, X=2, 4 damage 6 mana - Either T=2, X=3 or T=3, X=2, 6 damage 7 mana - T=3, X=3, 9 damage 8 mana - Either T= 3, X=4 or T=4, X=3, 12 damage 9 mana - T=4, X=4, 16 damage 10 mana - T=5, X=4 or T=4, X=5, 20 damage

Three differences between this and The Ultimate Nightmare; it's an instant, you don't need to pay for the first target, and the mana for the extra targets doesn't count for the spell's converted casting cost.

@Bigg_ol_FATTKIDD You cannot re-target on the same creature for each kicker. Read: "then choose ANOTHER target creature or player..."
@Sidek If that were possible then 11 mana would win you the game at instant speed. Try doing that with a Fireball.

you can target the same target multiple times per spell. Otherwise it would read:

☆☆☆☆☆ (0.7/5.0)(5 votes)
my thoughts on this is the card needs to be clarified by someone official from wizards,
as I read the card.
for 2 red, and X other kick for X to each X number of targets chose another target for each X
SO if I have kicked this 10 times
I get 10 targets for 10 damage to each target : and must choose another target for each time it was kicked.
so IF my opponant has 5 creatures ; I have 3 creatures... this card goes as follows
#1 target my opponant, 2-6 my opponants creatures, 7-9 my creatures and finally 10, ME
The card COULD also be interpreted this way; and this is how I intend to play it until I see otherwise.
#1 my opponant, 2 creature 1, 3 opp, 4 Creature 2, 5 opp, 6 creature 3, 7 opp, 8 creature 4, 9 opp, 10 creature 5.
IN both cases the card has targeted, ANOTHER target fore each time it was kicked.
The card does not say or indicate anywhare that you cannot retarget , as it clearly falls under in this case it was ANOTHER target.
so if this is not what wizards intended the card needs to be clarified or erratted to say so.

I'm not sure why so many people can't figure out the meaning of the word "another". This isn't the first time it's appeared on a card.
As for the card, honestly there's plenty of decks where I'd pay the extra for instant speed Fireball alone, let alone the unsplit damage. I'll admit you really need to play with it and get a feel for what you can actually do when you cast it to figure out what's going on, though.

You cannot choose the same target multiple times, the text is quite explicit what you can do, choose another target for each time it was kicked, all the targets are chosen at the same time, re-targetting a target would not be choosing ANOTHER target.
This is an improved fireball, at low mana it isn't any better, but with more manner this card becomes brilliant.

For all those people wondering whether or not you can target the same player/creature over and over, I just went ahead and asked the powers that be (Wizards) by email if it was possible, and they clearly said that 'another' meant 'not the same.' Therefore, only all different targets for Comet Storm. Sorry, guys.

in my eyes u would have to chose a separate target every time the card incremental growth states that quite clearly, the word another has appeared in many cards like champion would allow your to exile the card in question coming into play with its own champion ability, also activating any come into play affects!!!! so in conclusion .... in plain English the word another mean SEPARATE, DIFFERENT, any word you would like to use that means not the same.

Other than that, great card. Use it in a deck with pyromancer ascension and it will be copied with the kicker paid that many times and X remaining the same I believe.
Great, great spell for red control decks. Been using it in a red white control deck, and combined with Day of Judgment, Martial Coup, Earthquake and Scepter of Dominance it's very, very difficult for opponents to keep an attacking threat on the board.
It also combines very well with Everflowing Chalice (as I'm sure it would with any mana accel - the thing with Everflowing Chalice being that it can be utilised by any colour). It being weaker than Earthquake/Volcanic Fallout/Fireball/Pyroclasm/Banefire early on doesn't matter when you're playing a control deck and making the game last long enough for it to be fully utilised.

In a multiplayer game, this card in any infinite mana deck (I'm old school, prefer either the Worldgorger Dragon or Grim Monolith/Power Artifact combos) is quite possibly the greatest kill-card ever printed. The only real competitors for this is Bonfire of the Damned, Banefire, and maybe another one or two that have the "uncounterable" style traits.
