Before Demonfire and now Banefire, I think Ghitu Fire was the first real X burn spell that was trying something different. A little more expensive, but could be amazingly impactful late game.

use this with braid of fire once you have enough mana

Its a Blaze Variant that can be played as an instant... should be an uncommon though...

Volcanic Geyser is better, and is uncommon. I agree that this doesn't really deserve the rare status, but it is better than Blaze

When I say "Fire in the ghetto!!!!" my opponents know it's over.

Couldn't they have worded it as being an instant and costing {2} less if it is cast during your main phase?

Go Jhoira! Although I think Tinker is her best card, this card is still pretty useful.

It's an instant that can be imprinted onto Spellweaver Helix. What's not to like?

@Test-Subject_217601:
but then you could still cast it at instant speed during your main phase, which can make a significant difference if, for example, there is some sort of protection on the stack

@syrazemyla: If you cast this or any other X spell without paying its mana cost, X is always 0. You wouldn't want to use this with Spellweaver Helix.

Instant-speed X-spells are powerful, particularly against control decks. You could wait until your opponent tapped out, hit him with a big Ghitu Fire at the end of his turn, then follow up with another, even larger X-spell on your own turn. That should be enough to drop most any players up against a burn deck.

Seems like a steep price for instant burn damage. It would cost 5 cmc for 2 damage which is a Shock and 6 cmc for 3 damage which is a Lightning Bolt. It could find its use in commander games where cmc is more of a joke than a thing and there is so much time in between turns making instant speed spells more valuable.
