This card is like a sol ring designed to be "unbanned" but ... this card is too good no surprise it's restricted! any card with casting cost 5 is easy to play on turn 3 ... lets say this " turn 1: land, turn 2, land + this card, turn 3 let's say land + " mirrari's wake" ... GoodGame! ( the same is possible with good old sol ring, of course)

another 5/5 card by stormkeeper

Another combo with this card is with Mana Reflection.

Broken with Power Artifact. Or turn it into a creature and play Heartstone....

Insane synergy with Tezzeret the Seeker; play this turn two, play Tezzeret turn three, turn four cast something epic.

I'd compare it more to Mana Vault than Sol Ring, stormkeeper. Slightly more costly, but with some of the other drawbacks removed. Or it could be like a Basalt Monolith that's more playable.

This card design was just begging for an infinite mana loop.

anything to decrees the cost to less than 3 or to increase the mana added to more than 5 and you have a very easy 2-3 card infinint. and nobody likes infinints uther than the caster

@Boakes2047

You know that the red mana you get from the Mountain is used to cast the Sol Ring right? So there's no way in your hypothetical situation you can Pyretic Ritual and...do all that other stuff.

This plus anything that turns an artifact into a creature plus training grounds = infinite mana combo.

@Boakes2047 and forumbrowser:
Well, if Grim Monolith would be replaced with Simian Spirit Guide, whole combo works, but if player would have this perfect draw of 7 cards in opening hand, it is almost as much probable as playing against opponent who has 2 Gut Shots in hand as well. :-)

However back to card. This is good combo fueling card, quite powerful and all, but I personally prefere its more ballanced brother, Basalt Monolith. Does not suit to every deck, but in decks where it is, it shines out, because into such deck, it is put because of reason.

This is usually played with Voltaic Key but it can also be played with Power Artifact for infinite mana. but in todays metas a two-card combo for just infinite mana by itself is too slow and too many cards all need to work together for that to be good.
This could also be played in Goblin Charbelcher instead of cantrips. Opening a hand with a Grim Monolith instead of a cantrip is better than opening with a cantrip. In a belcher combo deck you want to open with a hand that can at least cast one ritual spell. If you cantrip looking for a ritual to start your chain you can run into one of your Burning Wish or other non-mana spells.

Forget about infinite mana combos. This thing alone gives you freakin' six mana on turn three! Remember Primeval Titan, once the dominating force of Standard? Those decks filled their whole deck with mana elves and ramp spells, and still the Titan usually came down turn four instead of three. Pentad Prism was already extremely good, and this thing is 1.5x Pentad Prism at the same cost, even without considering combos like with Voltaic Key, which is beyond absurd. Sure, I guess compared to Vintage staples like Mishra's Workshop this isn't that broken...
