In my aggro Red Goblin deck this card is nicknamed 'this is your cue to scoop'

Dear...lord. Ball Lightning gets to attack TWICE for a total of 12 damage (at best)!? Then...this thing has freaking rebound!? Unearth...I dont know Hell's Thunder the first combat phase, then swing with it again for a total of 8?

Question of curiosity if Hive Mind was in on the battlefield and "player A" cast World at War "player B" would have to cast World at War granting "player A" a total of 3 combat phases this turn?
Would the following situation in 1 vs 1 grant "player A" 5 combat rounds this turn (one from its effect one from Ascension copy and two from "player B") ? A Pyromancer Ascension with two or more quest counters on it, was on the battlefield under the control of "player A" and a Hive Mind was in on the battlefield and a World at War was in the graveyard of "player A" ( was discarded from Chandra Ablaze) and "player A" cast World at War.

@Shish Very interesting scenario. The first one works, it would give the player three combats, but the second only produces four. Pyromancer Ascension doesn't copy your opponents spells, and Hive Mind can't make copies of copies, otherwise infinite combos would be rampant.

I don't think you can have more than 2 combat phase with this card even if you play this multiple times. It states that "after the FIRST postcombat main phase this turn..." your second post combat will NOT trigger the next world at war. i remember this scenario with paradox haze from timespiral, it does not trigger twice because of its "first" condition.
I finally tried this with hellcarver demon, works amazingly well, but its really hard to build up the mana... any suggestions for a BR mana ramp?

@Hand Bananna: Easy on the pills, buddy. No need to get nasty.

It's a lot like Waves of Aggression, but it casts itself a second time for free and gives you the option to cast it before or after combat, while the former can only be cast after.

@ Hand_Bananna, Im pretty sure he is just being witty. There are 4 combat phases in two turns. 2 for you. AND 2 FOR YOUR OPPONENT. Think about it before you freak out ok?
Wow. Pipe down. Counting only YOUR turns, that's four combat phases. Who taught you mathematics ?

Yea Bananna is psychotic, stay away from that guy. I like this card but unfortunatly it is situational which limits its play in standard dramatically. Limited however, go get them!

Pretty good when flipped by a Hellcarver Demon, but even better when played immediately after an early unanswered Abyssal Persecutor, Sedraxis Spectre, Hypnotic Spectre, etc.
I think this can combo well with Battle Cry, especially with Hero of Bladehold.

The ability is red, but the name isn't. War isn't red's thing. War is an organized affair, which is more of a white thing. Red is more into random beatings (Relentless Assault, Savage Beating).

In a long multiplayer game you could go for this and Insurrection on the same turn. You've got Mana Flare and now Geosurge at your disposal to whip up some stupid combo like that.

Relentless Assault-type cards are outdated in my opinion. Don't we already have double strike?

Well, I'll keep using Relentless Assault-type cards until Quadruple Strike is out, which may take a while...

whoever says the Eldrazi are Lovecraftian clearly hasn't read H. G. Wells. I mean come on they had a card NAMED 'Heat Ray' in the set! THIS CARD is named 'War of the Worlds!' why am I the only one who sees this? maybe in the Blind Eternities they are like Cthulu, but here on Zendikar, they're... THEY'RE COMING RIGHT AT YOU WHY DID YOU WASTE YOUR TIME TALKING TO ME?!
Edit: ok, this kind of comment may already be getting old, but seriously- it IS pretty sick with Kaalia of the Vast.

Unless I'm missing something?
Who gets to turn 5 in aggro decks? Let alone turn 6 (when the rebound happens).
because this card's name is World at War, not War of the Worlds
