An excellent card and by far my favorite of the nonrare Eldrazi. It can get onto the field blindingly fast provided you have Eldrazi spawn token ramp, and can start wrecking face as early as turn three. However, it's dead weight if you don't have any spawn tokens, because hardcasting it for 9 is far less efficient than its brother Ulamog's Crusher. Still, the alternate casting cost and the hefty body that still satisfies Not of This World's alternate casting cost makes this a great card for an Eldrazi deck.

A possible turn-4 Eldrazi on green. A big guy that will surely take out one permanent and, maybe, a couple of blockers.

Possible turn-3 Eldrazi on red, playing Spawning Breath and Brood Birthing.
Great card!

easiest to get out i guess, but also most dissapointing. at least for me. no trample. and annhilator 1 is weak, and will not win you a game unless you get him out super early. But I guess a 7/7 isn't bad right?

If not for this eldrazi, the whole concept of an eldrazi deck could not exist due to their speed and how impossible it would be to win due to all the fast decks out.

Not all that great late game in limited. Yeah it's a 7/7 but if you opponent has something bigger then you may be in trouble. Besides at that point all your opponent has to do is sac a land and then proceed to eat this guy.

9 for a common? What is the world coming to?

Heh.
Cool art, and nice effect. It costs 4 if you know what you're doing. And that's pretty nice.

@littlbeast:
Turn 1: Island, Mothdust Changling
Turn 2, Mountain, Rite of Flame, Mass Hysteria, Brood Birthing, Hand of Emrakul with Haste.

Good show, old chap.

Eldrazi Spawn is not a creature type, it's a name. If you don't believe me, do an advanced search for the subtype "spawn" and see for yourself. It doesn't exist. Mothdust Changeling can't be sacrificed to pay for Hand of Emrakul's alternate cost.

Sorry to dash your hopes, guys. =

I've found that this is pretty much the only Eldrazi worth playing, maybe besides an Artisan of Kozilek or two for late game when you have the Hand or other big creatures in your graveyard. Sure you can cast Ulamog's Crusher on turn 4 or 5, but it requires tapping all your mana and sacrificing all your tokens, basically putting all your eggs in one easily removable basket. What makes Hand of Emrakul great is that you can cast other stuff on the same turn, thus giving your opponent two simultaneous threats to deal with. Not to mention you can easily get him out on turn 3. And since any Eldrazi deck is going to be heavily green anyway, I'd rather cast Pelakka Wurm or Terra Stomper than any of the other big Eldrazi.

A play I've pulled off more than once:
Turn1: Forest, Joraga Treespeaker
Turn 2: Mountain, level up Treespeaker, tap Treespeaker to cast Nest Invader
Turn 3: Tap lands for Brood Birthing, sacrifice tokens for Hand of Emrakul, tap Treespeaker for Canopy Cover. You now have an invincible 7/7 almost-flying annihilator. Have fun.

@littlebeast
Guy, you don't even need a mothdust: 1)Land
2)Mountain/Forest; Spawning Breath (killing the opponents early stuff)/Nest Invader (early Grizzly Bear in eldrazi form)
3)Land; Brood Birthing => Hand of Emrakul
See, you don't even need a blue. ;)

Musume, Eldrazi spawn IS a creature type, it is printed on the subtype line on the token cards

@littlebeast

The changeling effect only changes the creature type, not the name, so the combo won't work. You have to sacrifice 4 permanents named Eldrazi Spawn, not 4 permanents that have the creature type eldrazi spawn.

Make sure to throw a Fling or 3 in decks containing him. Just in case your opponent has ways of taking it out.

EDIT: Also, those of you saying you can get it out turn 2 at earliest are wrong. It's possible to get it out turn 1, but you need an exactly perfect hand. I want to play around a bit more with the idea and make a legacy deck around it.

And Musume, the reason they're not showing up in your search is that they're tokens. Gatherer does not have info on most tokens. Eldrazi Spawn is a creature type. It even shows up on the type line of the tokens.

We all know that Emrakul is the Flying Spaghetti Monster... that means that the Hand of Emrakul is His Noodly Appendage, right?

9 mana for his hand?
Laguz
☆☆☆☆☆ (0.0/5.0)
The worst eldrazi.

Sacrifice four tokens to play him, and you've just lost five creatures for one of his cards after it dies to any removal spell before it can attack.

Pay 9 mana for it and you could have had an artisan of kozilek instead.

Not a fan of this Eldrazi either, I'd just bust out Kozilek instead. Sick art though, favorite design of all the Eldrazis.

The Hand of Emrakul has two hands. So it’s really the Hands of Emrakul. But then if you say “Hands of Emrakul,” people think you mean two Hands of Emrakul, which is four hands.

From the rules:
204.3k Creatures and tribals share their lists of subtypes; these subtypes are called creature types. The creature types are Advisor,...Elder, Eldrazi, Elemental,...Soltari, Spawn, Specter...
Both are separate official types.

Great for pauper, less so if you have playsets of the titans and the other rare ones...

Annihilator 1 may be the weakest annihilator, but it's still a loss of 1 permanent each attack, followed by a 7/7 that wants to be chumped.

Yes he dies to removal, so does nearly every other creature, if you play Hand totally unprotected, you'd better expect him to die. Vines of Vastwood, Withstand Death, Canopy Cover, there are a number if ways to protect him cheaply, and the fact that you're using only spawn tokens to cast him means you'll very likely have the mana available to raise your shields.

Not bad, but by the time I have four spawn i'd rather use a card slot to get some more and reliably cast ulamog or kozilek a few turns later.

T3: Hand of Emrakul (bunch of ways to get this out by T3)
T4: Land, Swing, 3 colorless and two life for birthing pod, one colorless and two more life for any 10 CMC creature of your choosing.

Ah I never liked this card, 9 for 7/7 with Annihilator 1 was just slow, never felt like it mattered enough.

If I paid the alternate cost, it almost always died to removal (or doesn't do enough^) and I felt bad about wasting the tokens on it (of course I may be biased since I like fungus=lotsa tokens).

My favorite Eldrazi. Yes, more than Emrakul. Yes, more than Ulamog. They're just big. This guy is just awesome and absurdly fast in the right deck.

EDIT: Why would you .5 this comment? Is there something wrong with me liking this card?

For people who don't get what "sacrifice Eldrazi Spawn" means, "Eldrazi Spawn" is a creature type. More precisely, Eldrazi and Spawn are creature types, and an "Eldrazi Spawn" is a permanent that has the creature types Eldrazi and Spawn.

Changelings are all creature types, including "Eldrazi" and "Spawn." You can sac Changelings for his alternate cost. You can use Amoeboid Changeling to turn other creatures into Eldrazi Spawn. They wouldn't be able to give you mana, though, but they would still have the types Eldrazi and Spawn.

"Eldrazi Spawn" in this creature's text refers to permanents with the creature types Eldrazi and Spawn, not to permanents named "Eldrazi Spawn." If it needed those it would specify "creatures named Eldrazi Spawn." Also notice that it doesn't specifically need "Eldrazi Spawn creatures" so if there were tribal Changeling enchantments you could sac those for this guy.

You could not, however, produce Eldrazi Spawn tokens with something like Volrath's Laboratory, because Eldrazi and Spawn are two separate creature types.

I have a question about this guy. Could you, during combat, block 4 creatures with 4 eldrazi spawns, then before they die, sacrifice them as the cost to summon this card in the end step?

This would make a wacky decktype, with x4 Not of This World.

Mirror Entity makes whatever "Eldrazi Spawn." Mutavault is also an "Eldrazi Spawn." After you pay for the first Hand of Emrakul by sac'n them, Pawn of Ulamog lets you do it again. Two "Hands" can smash harder. Should have called them fists.

Very underrated. Reaching 4 eldrazi spawn can be done by turn three easily with brood birthing.

It says an alternite casting cost, Not Flash. Do the math.

Hint: No you can't play him like an instant without something giving it flash.

Emrakul apparently has six of these.

And, in response to the flavor text, no, this is the hand.
