Imo, this concept is great for white. This card could use a functional reprint with a little improvement: either make it cost {1}{W} or make it an instant.

For those of you who don't know the storyline: Volrath here has just been defeated by Crovax, and he's being executed by having flowstone disassemble him from the inside out. It's pretty gruesome.
