i use this with the Lor/Sha hybrid enchantments. shield of the oversoul, scourge of the nobilis. i never threw in the Deus one, because its 5 mana, but who knows. naya beats!

liking bant fury. bant with red splashed for naya cards. idk, its working for me....

i basically only splash blue for rafiq. love it.

One of the most fun EDH generals ever and an amazing card in standard. This card is perfect in everyway imaginable.

This guy is fun. Just put a Spirit Link on him and he's a 7/7 w/ Lifelink. What I do is I get him out with a Scuttlemutt, put two Edge of the Divinity cards on Uril, tap Scuttlemutt to make Uril Black/White and presto! Uril is 15/15!

★☆☆☆☆ (1.5/5.0) (2 votes)
I use him for only his first abilty and he still is the card that i would pick over any other 5 drop in my 5 or greater naya deck.

I usually try and play him with Vigor(which prevents all combat damage done to creatures you control and gives them +1+1 counters for each damamge prevented) or Spearbreaker behemoth(which makes creatures with power 5 or greater indestructible for 1 mana), Then he is just broken, becuase he can only be killed by combat damage of which is all prevented, then i put trample on him and its just all over.

His ONLY downfall is that he is legendary so you can only have 1 out :(

This guy is the basis of my naya enchantment deck. Run 2 runes of the deus, 3 shield of the oversoul, rancor(since casual is the most fun to play)

I do not attack with uril unless he is enchanted or if there is a gaping opening to fill with raw damage. Among those I play with, Uril is public enemy #1.

2 Edge of divinity, a Spirit Link, and Scuttlemutt makes 17/17, not 15. Vulnerable to Wrath life effects, but all in all, amazing. especially for EDH

enchant him with:
1 Runes of the Dues
1 Scourge of the Nobilis
1 Shield of the Oversoul
a 17/17 with lifelink, firebreathing, trample, double strike, flying, and indestructibility
he needs deathtouch

Great for comboing with other naya creatures like spearbreaker and spellbreaker. As said really nice with vigor, and the various enchantments, scourge of the nobilis, runes of the deus, and shield of the oversoul, as well as auramancer's guise. You can bypass the legendary rule by using sakashima if you splash blue for bant, because sakashima's name remains the same and therefore the legendary rule never comes into effect, or mirror gallery.

play this card along with Mayaels Aria and its a game winning combo.

common ways i have had mine killed is by "target player sacrifices attacking creature"

Mayaels Aria says that if you control a creature with a power of 5 or greater each creature you control gains +1/+1 at the beginning of your upkeep. If you control a creature with a power of 10 or greater you gain 10 life on top of +1/+1 counters on each creature. If you control a creature with a power of 20 or greater you win the game. I run 2 Mayaels Aria because they stack. beast

Man that dude is a tank! Throw in some Knight of new Alara, Balefire Liege and your opponent will sweat to have those handy counter and burn spells before they crank Uril. I personally really like to give that great beast a Blessing of the Nephilim since it only cost W and Uril becomes a 10/10. Just add a Daybreak Coronet and watch your opponent's face...a 15/15 untargetable, first strike, vigilance and lifelink isn't bad, isn't it?

5/5. Awesome card!

@blimmi: You're right about Mayael's Aria. I run 2 in my Uril's deck because it creates such a great synergy. And if you wanna p-iss your opponents off, just put some Naya Charm into it too. But I don't use it because tapping all my opponent's creatures for the easy win isn't fun at all lol.

A great card. One of the only threats to him would be Aura Barbs, since it is not targeted, and even that only works if he is not indestructable. Hallowed Burial is a threat to him as well... but then again, it is a threat to ALL creatures.

@Dregrage: My mistake. You are correct, Aura Barbs doesn't remove the enchantment so it would only deal damage.

This dude likes the Rise of the Eldrazi, I bet. And it is in the two colors with the best mana acceleration,

@Mata-nui3: I dont think trample and deathtouch "stack", trample alters how damage is assigned and deathtouch comes into play when damage is dealt. ie you still need to assign damage based on toughness even if deathtouch later translates 1 damage into leathal damage.

@shapcal - that is mostly black sources and not everyone plays black. we can play around that by using fist of iron wood or flickerform.
and every creature dies to that effect, its a given....

My friend has an EDH deck around this guy. This is, without fail, every single three-player game:

1. We gang up on him, because he's Uril. We know what he does.
2. When he's effectively crippled and either can't play Uril or needs him to block, we turn our guns on each other because whoever finishes him off will be killed by the other guy.
3. Once one of us has eliminated the other, he plays four enchantments and swings in with a 25/25 flying hexproof indestructible double strike vigilance trample.

Normally that kind of comeback is the stuff of legends, but since it happens every game and we all expect it, it's not very entertaining.

@ MisterAction

Yeah, 3 player mtg games aren't very interesting. Your deck has to be capable of handling two opponents, or you sandbag the whole game, then either swing for the win at two players that spent all their resources fighting each other, or bust out your winning combo. This is how every 3 player match ends :(

This is a great general. Cool creature art, great ability, and Naya colors. 5/5 body and 5/5 rating.

I'm curious that people rate him as "one of the most fun EDH commanders" because I feel it's just the opposite. He invites you to build a very simple deck, where you rush to assemble him as a killing machine, slapping him some auras, and then wiping everybody's asses, specially with the "21 damage from your general is enough to kill you" rule.
Most decks I've seen with this general are normally streamlined and with little "tricks" or "resources"; they only want to assemble their Giant Killing Machine (Voltron style, get the pieces together and BAM!!). Feels rather uninteractive to me. Guess it's fun if you love melting faces with giant creatures with super powers.

He's not any more unfair in EDH than Rafiq. Sure, he's hexproof, but you can easily do that to Rafiq with things like Champion's Helm. If you have a good deck, it's not that hard to wipe the board multiple times.
Plus he's really, really fun to play.

Once upon a time, Jace was in Alara (Agents of Artifice). He must have seen this guy, and left a de***ion of him in Zendikar, but accidentally sent it back in time. Then, when Sorin was there, he got the idea for a 5/5 Hexproof for 2ccc, an aura-type creature, and a creature that loves massive damage. And from there came the powerpuff girls.

I still prefer Johan as a naya general, he just feels more synergistic with the general feel of Naya than Uril does and allows for a much less "eggs in one basket" style deck than Uril EDH tends towards (Uril, 40 enchantments 39 lands, 20 tutors/card draw effects)

He's a legendary Aura Gnarlid that can be blocked, but has hexproof.

I'd say that's pretty equal, since Gnarlid costs 2Green and this costs 2GreenWhiteRed. Not only that, but Uril is in the best Aura colours. If he was in Grixis or even Jund colours, he wouldn't be half as good.

It's usually a hard decision between which tri-colour voltron general to play: Rafiq of the Many or him. It's not like Red or Blue have many good auras.

Regardless, still an amazing creature, especially for 1v1.

One of the two Aura Lords of EDH. The other? Zur! And really, tell me how most people feel about THAT guy =P

Interestingly, Uril takes the role of the Aggro side by simply beating the living stupid out of the opponent (there are myriad ways where Uril can one-hit an opponent with only a handful of enchantments) where as Zur takes on the role of Control by being a complete troll =P

@surewhynot: Uril and Zur are not the only aura-themed legends, even at the time of your comment. Bruna, Light of Alabaster and Krond the Dawn-Clad also exist. And Zur is an enchantment-themed legend, not aura; he's not more aura-themed than Hanna, Ship's Navigator. I'm glad that many of these legends have different color identities so their decks are forced to be built differently.

I used to think Uril didn't deserve the hexproof, but it's there to stop the downside of running auras. So it's a valid addition, unlike just throwing trample on every big creature out there.

I'm a little biased towards this guy, given he was my first ever Mythic Rare, but Uril's probably my favorite card in the game. He's a good 5 mana 5/5 beater, and he has hexproof. He has since been outclassed somewhat by Sigarda, Host of Herons, but his ability to become really big really fast never fails to impress me.

Naturally, I've proxied an EDH deck around him (granted, I didn't really know what other General I'd want to make a deck for). I decided not to go the 40 Aura completely Voltron route, as that would be excluding a lot of other cards like Sun Titan, Worldspine Wurm and Ulamog, the Infinite Gyre which I also thought would be good in the deck. So I run a more creature and tech-heavy build. It seems to work well.

My friend also helped me build a Modern deck that's basically a Zoo variant with Aura support like Aura Gnarlid and Kor Spiritdancer, and with Uril teched in as my ace in the hole. From how it has played out so far, it seems pretty consistent. Uril isn't my only win-con, but if he hits the board, it's pretty much game over. It definitely helps that Rancor is now in Modern.

I wouldn't say Uril is very playable outside of EDH, but he does generally make an impact on the game when he comes out. 5/5 hexproof is definitely not easy to deal with. Love him or hate him, I'd say he's a good card. I wouldn't give him a 5 star rating, given his lack of playability outside of EDH, but he's probably good enough to warrant a 4.

@sarroth: You're not really getting it though. The other aura-themed Commanders are not considered completely insane. Krond is OK, hard to cast and easy to deal with. Bruna can be a pain, but can be dealt with.

This guy and Zur though are just so hard to outright stop. He gets huge, often with lifelink, evasion or other stuff to stall your assault, and there's not much you can do about it. Boardwiping isn't as easy in EDH, simply put.

Awesomely inspiring art, a cool aggrocombo hybrid ability, and aggressively costed -- it's kind of impressive how well this card speaks to Timmy and Spike as well as (obviously) Johnny. I like cards that invite creativity.

earlier, wholelottalove said: "I block people playing this Commander on MTGO."

Hurts my heart. It's kind of unfortunate that Uril is known as the commander played by people who attempt to goldfish their way into third-or-fourth-turn wins without any protection for their combo. So, umm, hey, listen. If you play Uril EDH because you can mulligan into a turn 3 win condition, and you threaten to scoop whenever you don't draw enough for a fast alpha strike or when someone interacts with you, look, you're part of the problem. On the other hand, if you play Uril in EDH because he lets you do cool and interesting things and combine normally marginal/unplayable cards in new and fun ways for unexpected and exciting effects, you're a wonderful human being and you don't deserve the crap people probably give you every single time you announce you're playing Uril.

5/5 for 5.
Hexproof.
+2/+2 for each aura.
3 colors.

Perfect EDH general ladies and germs. Pair with totem armor to save from board sweeps. Only thing you gota watch out for is spell crumble and evacuation type cards.
