Flying and Vigilance coupled with Trample (from Rancor) and the exiling effect which targests any permanent will make this guy very, very annoying. He may be the sleeper Commander of the set.
As far as "sleeper general" there are only four new legendaries in the planechase precons. Thromok is a worse (but acceptable card in) Ulasht EDH, Krond is a colored Argentum Armor, Maelstrom Wanderer is a .... a something and Vela is a combo-tastic anti boardwiper (ANY boardwipe). Vela is going to be the strong one here, no doubt about it.
I want more about his and vela's storylines, though. Both seem poorly worded to me.

Could be a fun EDH general on his own. I plan on using him in my Uril as a supplement.

Suspended turn 1 with talons gate planecard. Couple lucky rolls later and he was out on turn four.
He's pretty good in EDH, stick an aura on this sucker and go to town nuking whatever you want.

The only thing I wish about this guy was that he said nonland permanent, and said may, so that if you couldn't be even more of a jerk with him than you already would be (White and Green being able to protect him pretty well through shroud/hexproof effects and flicker effects) but wouldn't have to ever choose between attacking and not having to target your own stuff.
Players who love enchantments/auras have some good options for generals; this guy, Zur the Enchanter, Bruna, Light of Alabaster, Hanna, Ship's Navigator, and Uril, the Mistalker (Krond would be good in Uril, too, if your mana fixing is decent enough). Am I missing anyone? I like that Wizards is supporting that deck archetype and allowing multiple decks to run the same theme without feeling too similar.

Things people might not think of
Ghostly Possession, not perfect but protects him with a cheap aura
otherwise Umbra Mystic, Sterling Grove, Femeref Enchantress

Aspect of Mongoose and Favorable Destiny Gives him the protection he needs while enchanting him. Especially Aspect saves you the potential card disadvantage.

Armadillo Cloak seems like the obvious choice, though Eldrazi Con***ion is the truly hilarious one.
I imagine he would be difficult to hard-cast on turn six without heavy non-basic land usage or mana fixing. He can turn into such an effective creature, though, that even if he's cast on a later turn, he'd still likely be worth it as long as you could enchant him.

Yeah i also loved him to be my general in commander, but went i get my Savage Auras deck the inside of it is wrong, ten of the card is right but the rest of its from primordial hunger. Anyone get the same problem like me?

6 colored mana make him hard to play even in 50:50 White:Green. Even worse for numerous aura decks using blue or red as third color. 3GWW would be nice.

Does anyone know if Lightning Greaves makes auras drop off. I just have a few friends who like using Treachery.

As of Dark Ascension, Zolton Boros and Gabor Szikszai have been doing art separately. I hope they didn't fall out. :(

The mana cost is actually part of the charm of this guy for me. For some reason, I just really love huge, oppressive mana costs like the ones on any of the Ultimatums or the one on Progenitus.
Right now I'm trying to pick between this guy and Uril, the Miststalker for a mainly G/W aura-based EDH deck. On the one hand, Uril is really strong with auras, protects himself, and opens me up to a third color. On the other hand, Krond is better flavorwise as a commander, his mana cost is really cool, and I think he'd generally be more fun to play. I'm thinking I'll probably go with Krond on this one.

First thing that comes to mind was the tough cost: Riftstone Portal + Ghost Quarter Dual lands are overall the way to go, but this is not too tough really.
One deck I've always had was a green/white enchantment-based deck, so I was excited to hear about a new, legendary, mythic rare dedicated to auras and designed with EDH in mind. The thing about Krond as an aura-based creature is that all he really cares about is "enchant creature". Some good enchantments for Krond: Dragon Scales/Dragon Fangs (Instafree-enchant) Aspect of Mongoose (Yes, shroud means no more other auras, but he only needs one!) Predatory Urge/Sinstriker's Will (Use that Vigilance) Elemental Resonance (Use that colorful casting cost) Rancor Armadillo Cloak (Stacks with Felidar Umbra and Spirit Loop) Flickering Ward
When I saw him, I was a bit disappointed. I expected a home-field advantage effect, not powerful removal. And Indrik Umbra enchanting him is half-useless because he flies. (while epic) He's very scary nonetheless.
Am I the *only* one who sees Blazing Archon and this guy as the same?

Big and dumb and effective, like a cannon or a club. The strange mana cost only furthers this perception of him.

NozzDogg, Lightning Greaves does not make auras drop off. Shroud merely prevents him from being the target of new auras as they're cast. That's the only restriction, though. If a Pacifism comes into play via an Academy Rector or Zur the Enchanter, the Pacifism can come into play attached to the shrouded creature.
Protection does make auras fall off, though, unless the aura specifies otherwise.

I think this guy is a Blazing Archon. Of course, that doesn't explain Vela.

Yeah, that's right, the word s c r i p t is censored. No idea why. Maybe because it's a hacking term or something?
Yeah, that's it, I did some research on it. Apparently it helps prevent people from running "skripts."
And he seems like a fun commander, but too often you'll lose him and the aura. And I don't like the lack of colorless mana, no Hall of the Bandit lord for this guy.

Holy **** he's riding a lion. A flying lion. When I saw the effect I liked him, then I looked up... awesome card.
gift of immortality. Never pay that stupid casting cost again. Also The look on my opponent's face when it was unenchanted and I put a mind control on it.

@ c0debr34k3r:
the word "s c r i p t s" is censored is because of the word "c r i p", which is assumed to be offensive to the physically handicapped, and is also gang related. It's lame, I know. I'm no even allowed to say *******, **, ***** or *******.
