Wow, this is an amazing card all together. The only thing is that they should have definetly put flanking into the card as well. Flanking has been around forever, I don't see why it wouldn't be in there.

Play it with Akroma, Angel of Wrath for epic win.

I have a question.. is that true for lifelink or deathtouch or something else?

The Coolest thing about this card is that it only says protection, so Commander Eesha and Progenitus's portections are also shared

if it's not on the card then no. no lifelink or deathtouch or something else

is this true for cards with defender as well, giving all your creatures defender?

★★★★★ (5.0/5.0) (3 votes)
It's true for only what is stated on the card. So no, Not all creatures you control gain banding, phasing, rampage, lifelink, deathtouch, flanking, defender or ANY other random ability not stated by the card.

i'm a bit confused about this card. does this mean that its abilities also are in effect in my opponents upkeep?

Really unfortunate that it doesn't work with Flanking instead of Fear. Otherwise great card.

@Quang: It does include trample.

Concerted Effort + Oversoul of Dusk= All your creatures have protection from black, red, and blue

Pity it doesn't include lifelink and trample so that I can add benemoth sledge

@Belz: Oh my bad

Can a creature with Protection from White still:
- Get the bonuses from this enchantment
- Give it's protection to all other creatures.
I'm referring to Akroma, Angel of Fury

@DefenderofSavagery: Yes. This card does not enchant or target creatures. It simply states "all creatures you control gain" and "if a creature," not "if target creature." Since it doesn't specifically say target, it doesn't target, so protection does not prevent a creature's abilities from being included and share around.

@telecaster: i'm a bit confused about this card. does this mean that its abilities also are in effect in my opponents upkeep?

Say on your turn you have a White Knight and Concerted effort in play. You play a Serra Angel and pass the turn. You have a First strike creature, and a flying vigilance creature in play.

After your opponent's upkeep, Both your creatures have First Strike, Protection from black, Flying, and Vigilance. Your opponent throws a pair of lightning bolts at the Serra. The knight is still first strike, pro black, vigilant, and flying until end of turn.

The next upkeep (whether yours or a third player's in the game), your knight doesn't get flying and vigilance again, since the angel's dead.

The list of shared abilities only get updated during everyone's upkeep. creatures you play in your turn don't get them (since they weren't on the field during upkeep when Concerted Effort's ability triggered). Removing a creature mid-turn doesn't update what's shared either. It only happens during everyone's upkeep.

they need a new version of this card with more abilities listed. Mainly lifelink

I am new to Magic and confused by this card. It was explained to me that at each person's upkeep that they gain the ability of this card as well. So, all creatures that they control will get the abilities listed from other creatures they control.

I read it as at each other player's upkeep that creatures I control gain the listed abilities of the other creatures I control. I should be the only one to benefit from this card from what I understand. But, the experts I play with tell me that it is a general enchantment that extends to all the other players.

Why would I want to play this card if it gives everyone the enchantment?

Is this a dumb question? I know I am new, but it seems if it was meant to help everyone that it would say "creatures that player controls", not "creatures YOU control".

Someone please end this confusion.

play with mistmeadow skulk. All creatures you control gain protection from CMC 3 or greater. Yes please. Easier and cheaper, both money and mana, then all the expensive rares and mythics everyone else is talking about. Then just swing with your almost unblockable bigger guys for the win. Anything that can block them will most likely not kill them, so even if they do have chumps it just becomes a war of attrition.

@Jellybeanies
You're right, the bonus is for your creatures only, even if it triggers in each player upkeep.

Infect isn't listed on the card so it doesn't work with infect.

Cairn Wanderer perhaps?

IT ONLY WORKS FOR THE ABILITIES STATED.
I never found this to be confusing haha. It would be neat if worked for everything, but it's great how it is.

Wouldn't it be fun to throw a bunch of weenie blockers up, Entomb Akroma and other cards like that, then play Cairn Wanderer and this? Probably not the most effective thing in the world. But I totally want to hit my opponent with a protection-from-everything double strike deathtouch lifelink Savannah Lions.

So if a creature is enchanted to have protection from all colors do all creatures have protection from all colors?

Combo with Death-Mask Duplicant?

In competitive, Dryad Sophisticate will almost definitely make all your creatures unblockable, although Beloved Chaplain is better.

Mirran Crusader, Paladin En-Vec, and Stillmoon Cavalier all grant powerful sets of abilities for 3. Elite Inquisitor and Mistmeadow Skulk are also cool. Knight of Dawn can be a good toolbox for protection (i.e. unblockability). If you're running a lot of artifacts, Etched Champion is really good, especially with something like Angelic Curator.

At higher (mid-range) costs, Pristine Angel is probably best, especially because Concerted Effort grants it a version of its own protection that lasts even while it's tapped!

Okay, I understand how this card works, but not really why. Why does it trigger each upkeep instead of being a state based effect? Any gurus out there who can pass on some enlightenment?
Virde
★★★★★ (5.0/5.0) (1 vote)
The reason it is not a static and is a trigger instead is to give your opponent a chance to do something about it. Some colors have absolutely zero enchantment hate (look at Black). so killing the enchantment isn't an option.

Your opponent has two chances to stop your dudes.

When they enter the battlefield (as they wont have the abilities until the next upkeep) or when this triggers and goes on the stack at each upkeep.

Otherwise this card would be OP with decks that can make this enchantment a creature giving itself the effect as well.

Tooth and Nail, Akroma, Angel of Wrath, Progenitus. Do I say you're welcome or I'm sorry now? :P xD

This is a very, VERY high pick for Kaalia of the Vast EDH decks- maybe not Pick #2 (that would probably be Akroma herself) but certainly this is one of the Top 10 cards of a Kaalia deck- it's basically your 'Lord', and there are a good number of Demons with Fear. A good motivation to look for cards that grant different sorts of protection, and at least a little bit of landwalking as well.

I wish they had worded this card a bit differently, so that the effect goes into effect immediately, instead of at the beginning of the next upkeep. The difference between being able to swing on turn 4 or turn 5 with your double striking flying vigilance creatures is a big one. Also, since the ability triggers each upkeep, your opponent can still activate an ability or cast an instant that will get around the protection everyone uses.

Pristine Angel, also if you want unblockable creatures, the cheapest way I can think of is Beloved Chaplain, both of which are in mono {W}. Other cards of worthy mention are Trailblazer's Boots since lots of decks run nonbasic lands anyways.

I wish this worked for Lifelink and a few other abilities too, and didn't have the part about taking effect during your upkeep.
