I kind of wonder if this could be used in Dredge??

Variations on the monstrous mechanic. I like. Will we be getting stuff like "Monstrous 2: sac a guy" or "discard 2 cards"? sounds very interesting and there's room for creativity.
Back to this guy, I have a soft spot for snake tribal so this looks pretty damn neat alongside Erebos' Emissiary.

Man. This thing would be killer in G/U grave power.

This would be pretty fun to play right after someone hits you with a Wrath of God.

With a name like Nemesis of Mortals, it has to be a badass. Give it a good Rancor and he's ready to thrash those foolish enough to challenge it.

That name. That art. That cost reduction. Timmy is dreaming of 4 mana 10/10s. Johnny will help him get there.

Hooray for build-around-me uncommons! Between this, Erebos's Emissary, and Nighthowler, i'm pretty sure BG Graveyard is possible. Favorite card in the set. Just wish it had flavour text.
It's basically Ghoultree, but uncommon and with level... Nice.

This guy is powerful in a golgari deck. Imagine dreging, then putting out this beast, and monsterifying it same turn.
ouch.

After playing this in a Limited green deck I was rather surprised that, not only did the game last long enough for me to monstrify it, but that there were enough creatures in my graveyard to make it worth my while.

This card is so good. I actually milled myself at the pre-release to get it for cheaper. Literally had it on turn 3...

Late in the game, the possibility of a 5/5 for {G}{G} is probably the most hilarious thing I've ever heard. The monstrous is equally silly.

My extremely simplistic reasoning is that this card is as "Powerful" as it looks/you want it to be, and that the cost isn't "too high", it's "Too {G} ".
As a {U}{B}, {B}{G} or {U}{G} creature, this would have been much more deadly, Standard playable even with Innistrad rotating because Shock Lands Are Good, Commander STAPLE, and MAYBE Vintage Playable.
With these Colors, this becomes pretty much only Commander/Casual playable, non-Staple...and that's actually exactly where I think this type of Design belongs. :)
(only because Dredge is a thing and all in Vintage...more because Dread Return and such are broken than because it's actually *better* than other choices. There are a LOT of cards that are Vintage "playable" in a Dredge deck that simply don't get played because people don't feel like it and need to keep their lists to 60-ish cards and they already picked the cards they want. Same thing with Dream Halls and Omniscience decks: When you have no intention of paying, hundreds of cards become strong enough to win you serious games in serious play, and they just don't get as well known because most people don't use them because they aren't the FLASHIEST, most IMPRESSIVE choices. :P :)
Final comment: Wish it had either Reach, First Strike, or Deathtouch, but you can't have everything. That's what Vial of Poison is for I guess! :D
erm... isn't this just a weak ghoultree? I guess it is slightly cheaper if your graveyard is a bit lighter, but why is everyone saying its so great late game? in a graveyard deck you should have 8+ creatures in your graveyard by then, so isn't ghoultree better?

"THIS GAME IS TAKING TOO LONG!": The creature. Only used it in Limited so far, but there it's a beast. Realistically, it will never be worse than a turn 5 5/5, with the possibility of further reduction. (Commune with the Gods, grab it, then cast it for 3?) And of course Monstrous 5. For reasons of necessary.
My impression might be a bit swayed by that I also had a Nylea on the field, but it's still a giant snake monster that lives on dead stuff. Come on, not everything can be a rare from two blocks back. Besides, it might even be better in the current meta where self-mill isn't too common, and you get this discounted twice, with a 5/5 for practically nothing the first time around. It also has double green at Uncommon rarity, which is a blessing for Limited if you ever want to actually use that God of yours.

Interesting green mirror of Tombstalker. 5/5 Flyer or 10/10?
Most will choose the flyer, but this guy also doesn't eat your yard, which is nice so you can run 3-4 more safely.

As Andrew Wilson mentioned in a Gathering Magic article, this can be a fun way to get cheap monstrous tricks with Artisan of Forms. When the Artisan changes forms, she will remain monstrous if she was already.
1. Copy Nemesis of Mortals with a (non-monstrous) Artisan of Forms, then activate the Artisan's Monstrosity 5 ability. (Have seven creatures in your graveyard.) 2. In response, target Artisan with any spell, then have it become a copy of Shipbreaker Kraken. 3. Later, make the Artisan a copy of Colossus of Akros.
Results: You activated Monstrosity for and gave the creature 5 counters. When Monstrosity resolved, the creature was a Shipbreaker Kraken, so four creatures are tapped. They don't untap when it becomes something else, as long as it doesn't leave the battlefield. Your Artisan is currently an indestructible, trampling 15/15 Colossus that is able to attack.

Why? Because outside the borders of standard ghoultree is laughing at this sad creature. Need 4 mana to get a 10/10 in a graveyard deck is sad, as the tree is never casted for more than max 2 mana. What Ghoultree lacks is trample. If this snake would have gotten either deathtouch (logical for a snake) or trample or something it would replace ghoultree in no time. But as a 10/10 without trample this is as useless as the tree, but more expensive.
one can argue that while ghoultree is designed strictly for graveyard decks, this snake is a bit more versatile. But could still need a bit of a polish.

For EDH, it's fun in a Patron of the Orochi deck. Cast it for 2, but use its 6 CMC for Snake Offering.

Tarmosnake.
Of course, it's obviously not at that level, but the similarities for the cost.......
Rumor has it that Forsaken Drifters (mostly hated, but by me, only celebrated) and Nemesis of Mortals have been frequently sighted ruining lives by collaborating on that ol' two two skidoo green/black deck. Your mom hasn't stopped sobbing yet.
While we're at it, why not stack a green/blue deck for maximum selfie dickpunch potential. You stock some Nemesis of Mortals with blue deck dump cards that can target "any player", and just direct them at yourself. Dreadwaters, Vedalkan Entrancer, Dream Twist, Tome Scour, Thought Scour all seem like worthy ammo. Then turn out Archaeomancers to get those key nuke spells back or to churn out more happy meals for NOM to emerge and monstrify at a bargain. It's beautiful.

After this card becomes Monstrous, does it stay that way for the rest of the game/until it's destroyed? Or does it only last for that round?
