Killer board clearing ability. Destroys entire goblin, elf or other weenie hordes all on its own and gets to stick around to smack your opponent a bit. I love this card and all the utility it provides. It's the kind of black creature that I can really get into.

Great card. If you pay 2 for X it's basically an infest with a 4/3 dude attached. If you pay more it dies, but takes everything with it, no matter if it has protection, shroud, regeneration or is indestructible. Progenitus, Darksteel Colossus, Akroma, they all die.

The fact that it doesn't survive it's own ability really sucks, but still incredibly useful, nonetheless.

In a desperate situation couldn't you just morph him for 2 mana for a 4/3?

A great morph creature - you can pump mana into him to clear the board, or just pay two black on turn four and have him start flailing away.

This guy can give a morph deck some real teeth. Any one of your face downs could be this ugly bastard. Good times.

Works as an early beater, mid-game token/weenie sweeper, or late-game board sweeper. Pretty useful.

Has Thrashing Wumpus's problem, but TW doesn't morph. This is a pretty darn good value.

with that cost and counting you lose your next land drop he still give everything -1/-1 and after that be a 4/3 with you having only 3 lands... yeah it is pretty good I think
I would like more if its a zombie though "bane of the living" and it lives?

One appealing feature of this card is that it's a creature -- even if it dies to it's own ability, black has a multitude of ways to recur creatures. It's much easier for a mono-black deck to use this a second time than it can a Damnation or Mutilate.

Oh, did your legion of "indestructible" knights and your Knight Exemplar just disappear all of a sudden? My bad.

Then, after a few games of using this and conditioning everyone into blowing your morphs up with spot removal, slip in Willbender.

Just remember that an Variable Colorless cost of 3 or more will kill the Bane as well, but it's worth it to clear a board. Deals with those pesky indestructibles too!

Obviously, if you pay more than 3 for X, you kill Bane of the Living, I think.

One way or another, this is an instant-speed Black Sun's Zenith without the shuffling effect and the -1/-1 counters.

Ok, fine. It's not really that similar to Black Sun's...

I love flexibility. And big ugly bugs. Awesome name.

Quite good. It has the unfortunate problem of either being a 7 mana infest or delayed a turn, BUT it has the advantages of being instant speed, a decent beater, and a creature who happens to hard counter most token and weenie decks. If you get into Wrath of God levels of mana you can simply wipe the board squeaky clean (most of the time) and move right along with whatever your dastardly plan was.
