Tap down is such an annoying ability, and for the low, low cost of {10}{U}{U}{U}{U} you can tap down 4 things and get a 10/10, that actually seams pretty balanced considering its on a payment plan, not a pay upfront deal...
hope I get one at prerelease
4/5 Stars
Edit, Hmm, guess I forgot we get to play our prerelease promos again, lol

Reminds me a fair bit of Poseidon's battle form in God of War 3. I wonder if that was intentional?
Absolute bomb. And the best part is, it's guaranteed :D I once got Thassa's Emissary AND Infiltrator's Helm on him. 9/9, Curiosity, unblockable, potential to become a 13/13 and tapdown all the dudes.

When it surfaces, you sink.
This Kraken is amazing! One of the best of mtg's sea monsters. A blue fatty that comes out relatively early and is not dependent on your opponent having an island to attack, and when it becomes monstrous it acts like a board wipe. At the prerelease I was up against a deathtouch board which prevented my Shipbreaker Kraken from attacking, then the opponent played an Abhorrent Overlord and brought five harpies onto the table. Even with their awesome board position once my Kraken became monstrous it was all over. It locked down their board- creatures don't untap for as long as it remains in play! Take out their best attackers/blockers/tap abilities and attack for ten.

At the pre-release, I lost on every turn someone went monstrous with this thing.

I see all these high costing activated abilities in this set and I just can't help but think about training grounds or heartstone. It makes me wonder if they are going to add something like those 2 cards into the next set or the last. accelerating mana to activate these is nice, but I think I would prefer a way to reduce it. Training grounds might not make sense for this set, considering that most the creatures with activated abilities are Gods or monstrous. But that doesn't mean they can't make a functional reprint.
PS: This card is sweet. I had tones of fun with it at the pre-release.

The best part about using this at the prerelease was the turn after it went monstrous watching them attempt to untap their creatures only to have me intervene and let them read the card again. The feels!

I loved this guy so much during the pre-release. I built an esper control deck during it. That format is so slow. The kraken won every game i drew him p.s. the pre release art is better

Tidbit on how the kraken--from NORSE legend--showed up in "Clash of the Titans". The makers of the film originally knew the word only from Tennyson's poem, and thought he made the term up himself. So, they decided to borrow it for their sui generis sea horror.
I can understand why they didn't use Ketos (a little close to "cetacean"), but given how the kraken was billed as the last remaining Titan, I'm surprised they didn't use Polybotes. Well, I take that back--Polybotes was a Gigas, and the Gigantomachia took place AFTER the Medusa situation (Herakles, one of the combatants against the Gigantes, was a descendant of Perseus). Still, one of the details of Polybotes was that Poseidon stopped him by trapping him under the island of Nisyros. Considering where the kraken was released from, and that the Gigantes were the half-brothers of the Titanes (they had the same mother, Gaia), Polybotes would have been an apt name despite appearing far earlier than he should have.

If I cast, for example, Breaching Hippocamp can I untap creature that is tapped by Shipbreaker Kraken's monstruosity?

Now that we know Kiora's story, I give this 5/5 because of the flavor. Con5cripting Theran sea monsters to fight the Eldrazi? Guess who has an ability that can lock down Emrakul. That's right. This guy.
