The best and most obvious comparison to this card is Mulch.

Mulch is a sorcery and can net you more lands however the satyr is a creature which is generally better if you are running self mill because it powers up your splinterfright and what not, and it can be reanimated.

If any thing from Innistrad is still played in your play group I would strongly suggest you recognize the danger this can present.

I seriously wonder if this couldn't help power a Golgari reanimator with Whip of Erebos for this standard. Nobody is packing GY hate, yet.

Mulch is good for Land decks.
This is good for Creature decks.
Def going into my g/u self mill Splinterfright deck in the place of Dawntreader elk.

I would not pay more than G for this. I think people are constantly overestimating the value of a 1/1 that becomes vanilla. I mean, so you got a land out of the deal. Green doesn't really need more lands, does it? And it thinned your deck out--but deck-thinning is pretty much a statistical myth as well. So we're looking at a really awful chumpblocker and a single, worthless land.

@ Eternal Blue

Lands are not at all worthless, and for a lot of decks putting three cards into the graveyard is akin to drawing three cards. Chump block is gravy. I am also pretty sure that you don't understand statistics if you think deck thinning is a myth, not that this is what that even is. This is more of a cantrip than deck thinning.

Other obvious comparisons:
Elvish Visionary
Sylvan Ranger

-Worse tribe
-Might draw you nothing
+Feeds graveyard
+Better at finding nonbasic land

Also, sure looks like a Scout to me. What gives?

I tend to agree, and I'd have liked him as a Satyr Scout.
But despite the name and suggestive image, when you look at it flavorwise (by reading the flavortext and remembering what Satyrs are all about), you'll notice the only thing Satyrs are scouting for are parties and new ways to get wasted, so Wizards probably didn't make him a Scout for a reason :P

He would be so incredibly good if he could give you multiple lands like Mulch as well (or if he had 2 power).

But I think he'll still do a decent job in the right deck — he'll usually get you a land and mills you for three.
(Or just mills you for four, which will happen either by bad chance or because you really want to — thanks to the may-clause — since you can profit from that, e.g. by getting Threshold)

I have a Junk reanimator deck in standard pre-BotG and the spots for graveyard filling are already taken by Commune with the Gods and Grisly Salvage. This guy doesn't have a home in my deck because he can't grab Whip of Erebos like Commune can, and he can't grab a manadork or a Lotleth Troll like Salvage can. he's just not good enough to make an impact on my decklist, and I can't really see him fitting into any reanimator strategy this standard.

The unsung backbone of my standard Golgari Reanimator deck. Being a creature helps the deck actually work and lands are easily what I want to find, unlike commune with the Gods which can only grab creatures and enchantments, which it is preventing me from playing.

Whip of Erebos, Pharika's Mender, Grisly Salvage, Elvish Mystic, Rescue from the underworld, Forsaken Drifters, Returned Centaur, Deadbridge Chant and, of course, Ashen Rider (and the Lotleth Troll to discard it). Reanimator's looking pretty strong right now and I'm willing to bet that if you pull Pharika in draft you'll be able to force a sweet reanimator deck.

If nothing else it's a powerful deck for kitchen tables, which is what I've been enjoying.

Guys, play this with Grisly Salvage, Commune With the Gods, and Drown In Filth and of course Deathrite Shaman who is NOT banned in Standard (yet)... then put out a 10//10 Nemesis of Mortals on turn 4 and bestow a Nighthowler on him the next turn. Oh, you can also play Abrupt Decay and Putrefy, as well as Hero's Downfall and Thoughtseize in that set-up too.

As stated, no one is packing G/B hate right now. This is a Standard deck to watch, I promise.

would anyone consider this close to a greenified Augur of Bolas? augur brings a better body in blue, but only searches three deep for instants or sorceries. i love a good spell heavy deck, but it kinda restricts how often i can use augur.

Satyr Wayfinder meanwhile digs (pun intended) four deep for lands, not just basic, and helps ensure future land hits, even if your mana is solid. sure, a 1/1 is more underwelling than a Birds of Paradise in my opinion, but its something to bounce/flick with guys like Nulltread Gargantuan or Restoration Angel.

personally, i found the use for Satyr Wayfinder in a G/W Sun Titan build. using birds and Knight of the Reliquary to ramp, Wayfinder's graveyard toss effect is actually helpful with pumping the knight's P/T and stocking the bin with Titan targets. pretty cool little fella.
