I like to think that the white in the mana cost represents the muster and the red in the mana cost represents the ketchup

You know what I needed for my Agrus Kos, Wojek Veteran EDH deck?

-More reliable token generators.
-More Boros-colored creatures.
-More Soldier-typed creatures.
-More Hasted creatures.

Do you know what I got from Boros round two? Everything I hoped.
Along with Battalion.

Despite the tokens have haste, this is not an aggro deck material, but a control deck finisher. Because you get more and more tokens each turn you could be both offensive and defensive at the same time, as well as plenty of sacrifice material.

Do Not Hesitate.
Show No Mercy.
Every Single Gateless is now an Enemy of the Guilpact.
Do What Must Be Done, Lord Vraska!
-said Lazav. To Vraska. On a Boros card.
And Lazav probably doesn't even *like* the Guildpact.

IT'S A STAR WARS REFERENCE THEREFORE I AM RIGHT XD

Just seems so slow and expensive. Play it T5 and it doesn't really hit until T6. Arguably doesn't even impact the game until T7 or T8. Will be fun in limited, EDH, and kitchen table, but I don't think it will matter in even the least competitive formats.

Which should be the best quote to say when you reach your upkeep?

"You want a piece of me, boy?"

or

"My life for Boros!"

Let's see what happens assuming this lands on Turn 5. And, for kicks, let's say there's no blockers so we can see the potential accumulated damage.

Turn 6: +1 token, 1 total, 1 damage
Turn 7: +2 tokens, 3 total, 4 damage
Turn 8: +3 tokens, 6 total, 10 damage
Turn 9: +4 tokens, 10 total, 20 damage
Turn 10: +5 Tokens, 15 total, 35 damage
Turn 11: +6 Tokens, 21 total, 56 damage

It takes some time for the engine to start turning, but since it requires no further mana input it lets you do other things while it putters in the background. Though it's a great target for removal, the new Boros Charm can both protect it and make all the little guys indestructible for a turn as well.

Not to be underestimated. I'm not sure how this will fare in constructed but in sealed 8+ turn games are common and you can probably get 6 or more tokens out of this.
In EDH 20+ turn games are common and before you know it you'll be getting a dozen tokens PER TURN.

Straight-up 5-mana "You win the game" in GTC Draft. None of my opponents were able to stop it fast enough, and if they did I had already got 6-10 soldiers out of it.

@ mendicant_bias: assemble the legion only makes soldier tokens, not human soldiers. So unfortunately, Kessig malcontents effect wouldn't count them.

Also, FOR THE GLORY OF THE LEGION!

This is quite a bomb. I have a foil one in my Tajic EDH deck. I use it to enable battalion and to regain board advantage after I do mean things like Destructive Force.

now with the Legion's Initiative you are getting a bunch of 2/2's every turn.

It's pretty bad for any competitive format (though it sees a little standard play in bad control decks), considering it really does nothing till turn 8 or 9 (and that's only if you play it turn 5) but it can easily kill everybody in casual. If somebody plays this at your table, you're going to want to kill them asap or this will quickly get out of control.

This would have been a great balanced ramp card if it wasn't overpowered by giving them haste. Unless you get rid of it, you're toast after 3 or 4 turns.

Finally got to use this card last night. Every game it hit the table I won, each time with a nice little testudo of nine legionnares. Second game I also had Glory of Warfare, and my opponent has now dubbed this card Rape Factory.

@Asmodi0000:
Prepare to be one-upped.

Just let it sink in the absolute insanity that was required to allow this and Purphoros, God of the Forge to be in the same Standard in only 2 colors.
Let's break it down.
Purphoros turn 4, this turn 5.
Assuming no other cards, here's how it works out.
Turn 6: 1 Soldier total, 2 total damage.
Turn 7: 3 Soldiers total, 6 total damage.
Turn 8: 6 Soldiers total, 12 total damage.
Turn 9: 10 Soldiers total, 20 total damage.
Turn 10: 15 Soldiers total, 30 total damage.
Turn 11: 21 Soldiers total, 42 total damage.
Turn 12: 28 Soldiers total, 56 total damage.

Now, if you attack with each Soldier each turn and they aren't blocked, it looks like this:
Turn 6: 1 Soldier, 3 damage
Turn 7: 3 Soldiers, 10 damage total
Turn 8: 6 Soldiers, 22 damage total
Turn 9: 10 Soldiers, 40 damage total
Turn 10: 15 Soldiers, 65 damage total
Turn 11: 21 Soldiers, 98 damage total
Turn 12: 28 Soldiers, 140 damage total

Now if that isn't terrifying enough, look at what happens if you use Purphoros' creature-pumping ability to give them all +2/+0 turns 6 through 8, +3/+0 turns 9 through 11, and +4/+0 turn 12. (SO MUCH MATH IS ABOUT TO HAPPEN)

Turn 6: 1 Soldier, 5 damage, 5 total
Turn 7: 3 Soldiers, 13 damage, 18 total
Turn 8: 6 Soldiers, 24 damage, 44 total
Turn 9: 10 Soldiers, 46 damage, 90 total
Turn 10: 15 Soldiers, 70 damage, 160 total
Turn 11: 21 Soldiers, 96 damage, 156 total
Turn 12: 28 Soldiers, 154 damage, 310 total

That was a headache, but it's absolutely hilarious that that can happen with only 2 cards by turn 12.
Now, if I really hated myself, I could push this into 4 colors and see what happens when you double muster counters with Vorel of the Hull Clade, once every opponent's turn in addition to your own with Prophet of Kruphix, and maybe Doubling Season. And while we're out of Standard, let's throw in a Gisela, Blade of Goldnight for some absolute silliness.

I've created a monster. Look at what I've done.

Well, now I have to do the math.

Ok, you have the following setup (In a perfectly possible Naya deck, mind you):
One copy of Assemble the Legion
One copy of Purphoros, God of the Forge
One copy of Gisela, Blade of Goldnight
One copy of Doubling Season
One copy of Coat of Arms

Let's assume you get all of this out in one turn to make the math a little easier.
Turn 1: 2 muster counters on Legion, 4 soldier tokens, 8 damage from Purphoros, doubled into 16 from Gisela. Then +3/+3 from Coat of Arms. That's 16 damage from soldiers, then double that from Gisela, 32 damage from combat. That's 48 damage total in turn 1.
Turn 2: 4 muster counters, 8 tokens, 32 Purphoros damage. Soldiers get +11/+11, so 144 (doubled to 288) damage from combat. That's 320 damage turn 2, or 360 total.
Must I continue?
Turn 3: 6 muster counters, 12 more soldiers, bringing us up to 18 total. 48 damage from Purphoros. Soldiers get +17/+17, so 324 from combat, doubled to 648. That's 696 damage on turn 3, so 1056 total.
Can I stop now? I legitimately have a headache now.
No?
Turn 4: 8 muster counters, 16 more soldiers, 34 total. 64 damage from Purphoros. Soldiers get +33/+33. 1156 damage from combat, doubled to 2312. 2376 damage total on turn 4, or 3432 total.

This is all possible on turn 11, by the way.

When I first read this card, I got so excited about muster counters...

Then I realized it's a decent card too. Haste is a nice touch, it's a shame though since {R}{W} is generally a pretty aggressive combination and won't wait around for the counters to build up on this...

Kind of limited in terms of flexibility, but you can still do some evil with it. Purphoros, to Assemble the Legion, to Jokulhaups, to table flip. Slow, but it has a nice payoff. Anything that gives you a reason to nuke the board is awesome. 4/5

Well, that's embarrassing. I was wrong, Vorel only copies Artifact, land and creature counters.

Given that they're soldiers throwing themselves directly into the conflict, I feel like this was a missed opportunity to use CHARGE! counters.

What I'm trying to say is, I'm not sure their choice of counter name passes muster.

Of course, this card has allowed us to come back from behind and put patrols on the city streets, so I guess you could say it lettuce dispense catch-up and muster on the burgh.

This literally reads you win the game if your opponent doesnt have a way to deal with an enchantment. 1 card powerhouse just wow.

I dont think its going to win any tournaments but many kitchen tables will be flipped over this.
Drewskithelegend

It's trying to be a control finisher but I fear Elspeth III is far superior. It would be more feasible if there were a way to kickstart the counters so it feels like it actually does something the turn it hits the table.

I do, however, appreciate the flavor of a card that sends waves of creatures at big, nasty things so my overall impression is positive .
