Agrus Kos is one of the coolest magic characters ever! Agrus is the main character in the Ravnica Novels, and after reading all of them I have attained a deeper understanding of him and his card. The mechanic of this card is amazing, especially if the right creatures are out. For example if everything that you control is red-white then everyone of your creatures gets a free +2/+2 bonus, now thats justice.

I prefer Balefire Liege over Kos

Great character, great card. Though, yes, I'd use Balefire Liege.

Yepp, I agree, the Ravnica Novels are awesome! I played blue/black before using Szadek but then I found out a lot more about his guild, the supposedly non-existent Dimir... ;-)

...and I WANT Glimpse the Unthinkable! :D

what's wrong with using both agrus and balefire?

The main problem with using both is that aggro wants to be fast, and those cards are rather costly, limiting the amount of deck space you can devote to 5 mana cards. You could do both, but this could end up just slowing your deck down, rather than giving the extra oomph needed to get the last bit of damage through. Trust me, you don't want to draw 2-3 5 mana cards in your opening hand if you're playing aggro, and you want to avoid mulligans if at all possible. I wouldn't devote more than 4 slots for 5 mana cards in an aggro deck, if even that. Agrus is great, and prior to the Liege, he probably was the best card for R/W decks out there. Though he does shine if you can do more than one attack in a turn. (+2/+2 on first attack, +4/+4 on second)

he's good for an EDH. fast and brutal, something EDH can't always handle

Heh. Impossible for Constructed now, but still hilarious for casual. This guy plus Hellkite Charger.

I've never seen a card that looks more like a stream of gibberish words at first glance. Cool card though!

Why does everyone say "I'd use Balefire Liege"? You can use both. Agrus can be a general balefire liege can't. In non-EDH stack 4 balefire lieges and play Agrus and Razia together to win the game. Balefire liege doesn't benefit from his own abiity like Agrus does, making Agrus a much better attacker. And to top it all off Agrus is the best boros general (Unless you run enough artifacts against a low artifact destrcution deck to make Jor Ka. better). As a bonus you can always use Hellkite charger and hit for +2/+0 for all reds and +0/+2 for all whites that then stacks and becomes +4/+0 for reds and +0/+4 for all whites until you run out of mana.

This card is the reason I am still into magic. He has so much flavor, as well as being a member of the Boros, my favorite guild from Ravnica. Of course, when I drop him in my Boros deck, he receives all the hate, but that's okay because this beast deserves it.

Err...why is the partly-green horse statue more prominent in the art than Agrus?

He's a loose-cannon cop who doesn't play the rules, all he needs is a squeaky-clean Azorius police chief looking to make commissioner.

Kos is the hero of the first Ravnica storybook and is a strong supporter of the law. Agrus himself is generally a good person, but he can become a bit heated when confronted with particular wrongdoers. His main problem is his drinking streak, despite the laws against it, and his overuse of teardrops (a painkiller that heals wounds and broken bones in seconds). He was instrumental in the events of the Decimillenial Celebrations, when his arrest of Szadek during the vampire's attack on Mat'Selesnya inadvertently broke the Guildpact. As one of hundreds who became disillusioned following these events and leave the Boros Legion, he becomes a security guard employed in Utvara by his lifelong Orzhov friend Pivlic. He dies of a heart attack in a battle against the dragons unleashed by Zomaj Hauc after using a teardrop to heal a mortal wound he suffered. Kos was later returned to the physical world thanks to a contract, wherein he had to serve the Azorius guild for fifty years as a spectral guardian. Kos entered into an agreement with Augustin IV to track down and defeat the vampire lord Szadek once and for all. After the events of this battle, Kos was returned to the physical/heaven world yet again by the angel Feather and placed in command of his own Wojek Leaguehall.

*sigh* I wish they'd reprint him for Boros guild this time too!

Well, this guy will work fairly amazingly with the new Battalion mechanic alongside Odric, Master Tactician. In fact I'm planning a Boros soldier deck for when Gatecrash is released.

Aurelia, the Warleader works so well with him. At the end of the turn, you'll give your creatures a total of +4/+4, since he can attack again.

Although, for EDH, you should play her over him.

Ohh man how sick would it be if they printed an agrus planeswalker in the last set of new rav?? Also, outclassed by jor kadeen.

As mentioned previously, this guy comes out brutally fast for an EDH game, and you could easily take somebody out quickly. Obviously in a deck that uses this card, you want to use faster red creatures rather than fast white creatures if possible because of agrus's power bonus. He's honestly a fantastic general, and aurelia is overrated, although very strong, if you have a bunch of 1/1 R/W goblins she won't facilitate them very much.
