No "may" in the ability is sad times but I guess it fits the flavor.

By the time you get this out, all your creatures you bring out on the field should be nice and fat, and perfect for his ability. You're playing Gruul, after all!

It's not a party until a Gruul Ragebeast knocks down the door.

Real nice one Gruul Ragebeast. That's the fifth one this week. Tell me why I payed 7 mana for you again.

BTW, this forces the fight. You CAN'T stop it.

So, after you've played this, good luck trying to play anything small like Arbor Elf.

Arbor Elf : Wait! I didn't sign up for this!! AAAAHHH (gets ripped apart)

The mana cost, and being afraid of wasting tiny creatures kinda makes me not appreciate this.

"ROOAAAR! I'm a huge-ass beast that's gonna smash your face in!!"
...and then he gets stopped dead in his tracks by a squirrel due to lack of trample. Yay...

you don't throw your mana dorks at it... you play Wasteland Viper!
also, you get to pick both target creatures, so you get some options...

I believe the correct use for this is in a re-animator deck where you bring this back from your grave and kill your opponents obnoxious creature and make every re-animation afterwards has some removal and risk tacked onto it... oh and Ambush Viper
Don't overlook creatures with "enters the battlefield" on them.

I always have an eye out for cards that can go well with Mayael the Anima. I just found another.

If this is your first night at Fight Club, you have to fight.

Casual/limited card; people need to view it as such when rating it. In those formats it's prob around 3.5 - 4. In both casual and limited, it's slightly below curve, but provides a lot of potential card advantage - with the right setup, every creature you play can turn into a +1, which has huge potential. In limited you can't build around it too much, but hopefully in Gruul you'll have enough beefy creatures that you'll be getting on the winning end of those fights. In casual, you certainly can build around it, and one obvious card comes to mind - Vigor. If you're having fights you can't win, you're probably still getting a bunch of +1/+1 counters.

If you go the Naya route, you also gain access to Mark of Asylum (prevent all noncombat damage that would be dealt to creatures you control), and Oriss, Samite Guardian (prevent all damage that would be dealt to target creature).

Lots of build around. Even in casual and limited it's not the best creature, but it's certainly good and deserves a 3.5.

Yeah, you'll have a hard time casting mana elves after this... But then, once you have a seven-mana creature out, what do you need more mana elves for? And of course, even a little utility creature can still kill their little utility creatures.

Hmm. reusable fight, 7/7, can kill something as it enters and opponents are now too scared to use utility creatures. I like you. Even without trample, Skarrg Guildmage can solve that problem. 5/5

This will be some fun in EDH. eldrazi monument and cards like it will be nice for the elf decks and fattie deck will fit with it nicely.

I think this card works well with undying creatures, especially Flayer of the Hatebound. This will be a fun card to play around with.

If this cost one less mana I think this would be used occasionally, but at 7? Not seeing play except for the casual tables. (but who cares I love the casual tables!)

I don't play Gruul, more of a Boros/Dimir player but if I got one of these guys in a booster I'd play the heck out of it.

If I had a Wolfir Silverheart on the battlefield unsoulbonded and played a small creature like Arbor Elf, would the fight happen before or after the soulbond takes effect?

Love this guy. He's not a 4-of or even a 3-of but 1-2 in a deck can take out just what you need. Boros is really really strong right now and he can thin their ranks down. It turns a Worldspine Wurm into a boardwipe.

At the very least you can get him to go 1 card for 1 card and maybe more.

A great card all around. The fight mechanic was definitely something the Gruul Clans needed, and it comes on a solid body too. I can only imagine how crazy things would get if you had multiple Ragebeasts in play...

This guy obeys all three rules of Fight Club:

The first rule of Fight Club is you do not talk about Fight Club.
The second rule of Fight Club is you do not talk about Fight Club.

The third rule of Fight Club: If it's your first time here, you have to fight.

I actually made a type Standard partially revolving around this guy, mostly just to see what would happen and I won a couple of local Friday night tournaments. I went Jund and I gotta tell you, Griselbrand and Harvester of Souls love this guy. Like I said, I mainly did it to see what I could do and it is a lot of fun. There are tons of really fun options in MTG Standard format right now and this guy is definitely one of them.

Multiverse comments article gave me an idea for a new format involving this card.

Thunderdome format.

This card becomes a global enchanchant, affecting all players.

@Legoman4000 You choose the order in which the ETB effects resolve, so yes. You may activate soulbound after fighting (you can also resolve the trigger to do nothing in both cases), which can be relevant if you want to Mark for death something so you can kill them with a trampler. You can't use Wolfir Silverheart to trigger things like evolve though.

He doesn't have trample because he dances around raging over the body of the creature(s) he's just killed after he kills them.

Hello im new to mtg and have a question about this card

It says when gruul ragebeast or anyone else enters you target an opponents creature to block.

So does that mean this effect only happens right when Gruul or another creature enters the battlefield and only last one turn? because if so then does that take away summoning sickness.

Or does that mean Gruul and any other creature after him can do this after summoning sickness wears off

@autispomati

You misunderstand what "fight" is.

Fight says "Both creatures deal damage equal to their power to the other." There is no blocking involved; it's just something that happens like any other ability.

They will still have summoning sickness and attack normally; be warned that damage doesn't reset until the end of turn though, so any damage taken fighting will be marked on them after this if you have haste.

I run this guy in a Maelstrom Wanderer EDH deck where everything is at least 6 cmc, so that my cascades are more fun (not a better deck, mind you. Just more fun.) As a result my dudes tend to be the biggest on the board. The fightbeast (as I affectionately call it) has saved me many games in its time, as each of my guys comes in with a free removal spell. Remember that you can throw two creatures at one guy (Lets say with a Riku out) to bring down bigger foes.

I'm very uncertain weather I like this one or not. My beasts like him, but my mana dorks and other "I bring effects for everbody"-wheenies (like akki coalflinger) do not like him at all.. if they added a small "may" it would get 4/5. Reduce the CMC to 6 (in addition to adding "may") would grant it a 5/5. Now I only give it 3,5/5. Oh, and trample should be a no-brainer. He's called "ragebeast" for crying out loud!

@Dabok: Your comment made me laugh to tears! Hahaha!

Guys, you need to realize where this guy is good. I play Mayael EDH, and I can say that besides Mayael, and maybe warstorm surge, this is the best card in my deck. I'm always playing the biggest creatures, so it turns into "Whenever you cast a creature not named arbor elf, destroy target creature." It's absolutely spectacular for keeping opposing generals off the field, it's a godsend vs Kaalia.
