As someone who loves big red spells (see) : lavaball trap vengeful rebirth I don't see the synergy in standard that would make me ever want to cast this spell. MAYBE with the alara borderposts, but no.

@jumpenrun

May want to look at that again.
Unless you mean if your opponent casts this card,
In which case, yes, hilarity would ensue,
Since he obviously didn't see this card when you played it a turn ago.

The name and flavor text don't match up... There isn't anything in the name about a loud noise and then the flavor text seems to imply there is. Otherwise... 3/5

Wildfire is much better

Wildfire-ish.

Turn 1, mountain, chump blocker
Turn 2, mountain, everflowing chalice with 1 charge counter
Turn 3, mountain, everflowing chalice with 2 charge counters
turn 4, mountain, chandra nalaar snipe creaure with biggest threat
turn 5, destructive force

you can also use chandra ablaze. Note the DEALS FIVE DAMAGE TO EACH CREATURE part. this was meant to be used as a massive stall technique, you can destroy lands and armies while having a bigger threat do the work. Works well with any ramp or planeswalker (cept maybe garruk wildspeaker)

Wildfire seems better than this because of the more affordable manacost. Earth Servant seems pretty decent with this, since it survives pretty much anything, and can beat down your opponent in 5 turns alone. Play with Pyroclasms and perhaps some land destruction? but ah well, nobody likes to play against land destruction :C

This plus Primeval Titan seems hilarious to me.

The flavor text implies the groaning of everybody at the table as you play this card.

Could be really mean if you had 1 extra red mana and cast devastating summons after tapping all your land, then used the mana in pool to cast this.

I think this is pretty good. Wildfire saw a lot of play back in its day, and this is very much in the same vein. Think of the synergy with Knight of the Reliquary, or, as was said before, any planeswalker. Plus, this is damaging enough to take down a Baneslayer or Sphinx of Jwar Isle, which seems important.

@mdakw576 You don't even need the sejiri steppe with Knight of the Reliquary, state-based actions are only checked after Destructive Force has resolved so by then it'd have taken five damage but also be bigger by +5/+5 because of its static ability.
@dberry02 Really? Flame Wave is pretty terrible if you ask me, you'd much rather run Earthquake for that kind of an effect.

In today's standard this is much much better than Wildfire because it kills Baneslayer. You're going to be ramping to this every time you play it so it pretty much means your opponent won't have a single land left on the battlefield, and likely no creatures either. Having played Primal Titan the turn before is just a complete blowout, you could be at 6 lands after resolving Destructive Force and attacking with the Titan once.

Why why why why did Hive Mind have to leave standard? D: Drop this the turn after you play a Hive Mind. Pop 10 lands for 7 mana, 10 damage to everything. :B

Hive Mind anyone? lol

run with primeval titan

drop titan then drop this, then attack, you still have 5 mana and you killed all chump blockers, and even if you didn't the titan becomes a ball lightning.

wildfiver

Also, this link gives early insight to the card.

I think it's a good upgrade to wildfire. While it costs 1 more mana, dealing 5 damage deals with many threats that wildfire would otherwise miss, such as baneslayer, avenger of zendikar, any blue creature... While it can't deal with any of the titans, you can play them yourselves, which is cool because not only do they curve into wildfiver, but they can just survive it. Primeval titan almost guarantees that you'll recover from the wildfiver faster than your opponent, though any titan will do a good job (the white one can recycle fetchlands or anything, the blue one can tap down their lands they drop, etc), so pick the one your budget can handle.
Knight of the reliquary also looks good; you can fetch your sejiri when you wildfiver to survive, then it'll become huge with all the lands in your graveyard. However, it's going to cycle out in a few months, so keep that in mind.
Planeswalkers are also good to use, since they won't get wiped out.
I'm really looking forward to this card. However, I'm going to wait until scars has been spoiled to decide if I want to build a deck around this or not, since some of the key cards are from alara.

@Exart: Ah, that's even better. Save the steppe for something else.

Oh wow... Well I've been proven wrong about this card. I thought it was totally bad at first, but once my opponent blew up most of my lands while he had great board advantage, it felt like I was getting hit with an apocalypse.

Great Card. 4/5

Maybe with Roiling Terrain, but you are a little short on the mana after this... My friend Tom will like this.

Combos VERY nicely with Deus of Calamity.

This + Reverberate = absolute annihilation.

An upgraded version of Wildfire, in a way.
To truthfully upgrade it, make it cost 4... and dispense ice cream....

Everyone loves ice cream.

I really want to make a Standard deck culminating in this without having to use the budget-breaking power of Primeval Titan.

pulled this awhile back and now its a staple in my favorite deck. it works well with a mythic i pulled from besieged called praetors counsel. so its red and green ramp with a prime and two inferno titans. *** everything up then bring everything back to ur hand. it destroys all my opponents lands almost everytime i play this. and most of the creatures on the board.

In retrospect, it looks like this card was a little over-hyped upon its release. That being said, however, if your deck is designed around it and you manage to resolve it, you're probably going to win the game.

Blow it all to hell.

I opened this in my first M11 draft years ago after first picking Magma Phoenix, getting passed Lightning Bolts and Flings, and drafting Earth Servants. I was good to go and made it all the way to 3rd place. With Big Red, aw yeah.

My Tajic EDH deck runs this and wildfire. If he has any equipment on, and I resolve this, it is usually game.

I run this in a G/R ramp deck I almost always have enough extra lands to make it worthwhile. if you drop a Primeval Titan before you barely even notice the land loss.
