If I have a 2/2 that is attacked by a 6/6 and blocks it with this enchantment on it, do 6 squirrels come into play? Or perhaps when an instant does 6 damage to it? Would that answer the following question also: if I have a 6/6 with lifelink that blocks or attacks to deal its damage to a 2/2, do I only gain 2 life?

In all of those cases it would be 6 squirrels or life. All 6 damage is being dealt to your creature, even if it is excess; the only time 2 would be dealt is by a 6/6 with trample.

Put this on an indestructable creature.

Put it on Phytohydra then put Pariah on the Hydra. Oh yes.

I believe this is actually how it would work.

It would be six life, but only 1 squirrel. The card says "Whenever enchanted creature is dealt damage..."

http://www.wizards.com/magic/rules/EN_Magic_Basic_Rulebook_20090710.pdf

Page 16 Section d. Combat damage step.

"Once players decide how the creatures they control will deal their combat damage, the damage is all dealt at the same time."

This means only one squirrel is produced because damage is only dealt once.

@UnluckyDevil: You mean 2 tokens. The enchantment says "that many" referring to the damage, doesn't it? Yes, damage hits all at once - but a 2/2 creature will take up to 2 damage normally. UNLESS the 6/6 has something that allows it to assign more damage than the creature's toughness, like Lifelink, then only two tokens are generated. If it's a Lifelink 6/6, then it can deal 6 damage to the 2/2, allowing its controller to gain 6 life and the person with this enchantment to get 6 squirrel tokens.

I think Sooku is right. Unless the attacking creature has trample, it will deal the full 6 damage to the enchanted creature.

UnluckyDevil is correct in his assertion that all combat is dealt at one time, but he misread the card. The card says to put that many tokens into play, meaning a number of tokens equal to the damage. So the enchanted creature takes 6, and 6 tokens come into play. The same works with lifelink- the full 6 damage is dealt, even if only 2 is required to kill the creature, so you gain 6 life.

I'm with the six squirrels side in the example given.

six squirrels!
not two!
(and one is just right out)

@clockworkswordfish-i'm pretty sure that damage is not dealt to phytohydra. He just gets +1/+1 counters. You had a good idea, but sorry, it doesn't quite work. Replacement effect, bro.

and on to the actual card rating. It's pretty fantastic. Goes great with pariah, as does phytohydra. Add in a few indestructible guys and that one dude who prevents all damage dealt to him and you got yourself a pretty sweet budget pariah deck. And all in GW, too. Best color combination, imho. 4/5 stars.

No, you get to put one token for each damage. You get hit 5 damage, you put 5 1/1 tokens. I see the confusion here, but the keywords are "that man 1/1 tokens". Otherwise the text would say "Whenever is dealt damage, its controller puts a token..."

Drop it on Darksteel Myr. And if you really want to be a dick give your myr the Pariah's Shield.

Totally run it with inferno titan. Why burn your opponent's creatures when you can make your own? Am I right?
Seriously though, cool card and sweet combo potential.

Guys, I think the thing UnluckyDevil was confused about wasn't whether the creature would be dealt 6 or 2 damage, but whether the amount of squirrel tokens obtained was dependent on how many times damage was dealt or how much damage was dealt.

UnluckyDevil, the card says "its controller puts that many 1/1 green Squirrel creature tokens into play" whenever damage is dealt to the creature; so it checks to see if damage was dealt, then checks to see how much damage was dealt. Otherwise it would read "Every time enchanted creature is dealt damage, its controller may put a 1/1 green Squirrel creature token into play".

It's hilarious when you stack two or three of these on a creature, then Shivan Meteor the poor little guy. Who knew meteors were made out of squirrels? For the moment, only the enchanted creature knows.

Far as i can tell Red or Green mana ramping Furnace of Rath decks love this.

Wow...I'm so glad I don't play with most of you people.

If you put this on a 1/1, and blocked an infinite/infinite, non-tramply creature, you'd get infinite tokens. It doesn't matter if the 1/1 only needs one damage to kill it; if the attacker doesn't have trample or any other type of evasion, ALL the damage is dealt to the 1/1, not just 'lethal' damage.

Back during odyssey, I used to run one killer squirrel deck. This card was included. I recently updated it with Swarmyard for even more shenanigans. Toss this on a Krosan Beast + Lure and make a truckload of squirrels.

Would this card handle Phyrexian Negator's drawback?
Luke_BPC
★★★★☆ (4.0/5.0) (2 votes)
It does help with Phyrexian Negator. If you control two effects with the same trigger, you choose the order they go on stack, so you can produce the tokens before you have to sacrifice anything. But you could just run Phyrexian Obliterator instead...

I think that the "Meteor Made of Squirrels" thing is one of the best card flavor interactions I've ever seen.

I like Chain Reaction better than the meteor, because it can be way more than 13 of them, especially if you are redirecting additional damage with en-kor

I'm not yet saying there is, but if anyone knows of a way to enchant Progenitus with anything, THIS is what I would want to enchant him with the most. :3

Just casting the enchantment is, obviously, not enough, but 'attach' is word that could be used in some little-known Johnny-tastic card that would permit an enchantment to land on Progenitus, if the word 'target' does not appear. I'm going to do more research then come back and edit this comment. :D

EDIT: Bingo. >:D While Aura Finesse, Aura Graft, and pretty much probably all the White and Blue Magic you can think of seem to be well aware that someone could think of doing something nasty like Enchant creatures Not Meant to Be Enchanted, and so were worded carefully to close the possibility, Ice Age is a set made before the Johnny Psychographic started doing REALLY improper things with cardboard, so the Rules Texts were not worded as carefully back then. :) Therefore, may I present the Best Combo Ever:

Druid's Call. Mob of Squirrels. Progenitus. Crown of Ages.

Combo with Sheltering Ancient for fun times!

@Darth_Parallax:
While I applaud the effort you put into your combo, I have to point out the unfortunate reason why it does not work. If Progenitus had something like shroud or hexproof, then your method would work. Protection, however, also prevents enchantments from sticking to it. For example, if you used an Eight-and-a-Half-Tails to give a pacified creature protection from white, the pacifism would fall off. For the same reason, cheating any enchantment onto Progenitus will simply result in the enchantment falling off into the graveyard. Also, a flipped Kitsune Mystic would do the job of Crown of the Ages, and from a set much newer than Ice Age.

When thinking about protection (at least in the realm of MTG), remeber "DEBT", boys and girls:

DAMAGE
ENCHANTING
BLOCKING
TARGETING

So like Gandlodder said, Progen couldnt be enchanted. He has protection from err'thang... Your idea works for shroud and such, Darth, but not protection

EDIT: Just though of something else crucial; even IF you could get this to stick to Progen, he has protection from everything, therefor nothing can damage him, thus no tokens would be made....
