this card is great but i agree, i would rather have a yawgmoths will out in play then a black lotus.
however having said that black lotus is great at getting yawgmoths will out, so maybe they are both the best card ever.

Sorry to all the naysayers out there but Black Lotus is the best card ever. Yawgmoth's Will is an excellent card, but still has it's limitations, it needs a graveyard to play. Black Lotus will make every deck that casts spell better. It puts you at a mana base of fourth turn on your first. Will is good because of it's abuse with Black Lotus and other broken cards. Lotus stands alone.

I agree with Syvanis, what sets Black Lotus above possibly every other card is that it can go in, and benefit, almost every deck. You wouldn't play Yawgmoth's Will in white weenie, but you'd play Black Lotus. You wouldn't play Gaea's Cradle in monoblue control, but you'd play Black Lotus. You wouldn't play Wrath of God in Red Deck Wins, but... you see where I'm going with this?

there is no way that yawgmoths will is better than black lotus.. in any way.. sure its a good card, great in some decks, but totally useless and ineffective in other deck types (as mentioned) the lotus can speed up the blue-control deck by 3 turns potentially... it can pull out a ball lightning or a savannah lions and a white knight or a hypnotic specter or heck... a metallic and muscle sliver (thats 2x 2/2 creatures)... on the first turn!
no other card gives this INSANE card advantage for 0 mana!
like syvanis says, black lotus stands alone... except maybe also the cheese stands alone
The power 9 are the power 9 for a reason. That reason being that no matter what your combo, no matter what card you want to get to win these will help you.
Yawgmoth's Will is a great card, don't get me wrong. But it is not as universally awesome as the power 9. Black Lotus is the king of them all because it goes in any deck as said above. Of course if you have a Time Walk you might load up whatever mono-deck you have with dual lands just so you can slap it in there anyway, but that's a different discussion...
The only reasonable arguement anyone could make would be Demonic Tutor or similar cards for the same reason.

Magic is a game, and i can't understand why WotC don't want to make a "From The Vault : Power 9" Set, so everybody can enjoy playing with these mythic cards. Play the game more than make business.

★★★☆☆ (3.9/5.0)(4 votes)
Crevette72, at this point where cards are sold for three digits it becomes a bit more than just a game. You can simply reprint the power nine that easily. If they did it for example as purchasable "From the Vault" set, they would have to decide between two wrong options: Either they sell it for a cheap price and old cards might lose a crucial part of their value, or they had to sell it for an insolently high prince to prevent that. Even something in between like 300 bugs would be ridiculously cheap in comparison while as a new product with not even a dozen cards as such would be extremely excessive. It's not that i would not love to see a remake of these cards, but this will at most likely happen in form of priceless promo cards.

I lost my fair share of these beautiful babies when everybody still played for ante. The good news was I could always trade a Shivan Dragon, any of the Moxen, a Time Walk, or even a Serra Angel or Sengir Vampire to get it back. Or, much more commonly, I'd just keep playing games against the player who won one and I'd soon enough win something he wanted back bad enough to trade one for one, like a Force of Nature, Gaia's Leige, or Aspect of Wolf! I remember buying two of them for $4 a piece, and everybody thought I was stone cold nuts for spending "so much" on a single card! :D I miss those simpler days (and ante!) and wish I'd known how much they'd eventually be worth... /tear

The major problem is that once they released anything coming close to From the Vault: Power 9, everyone who spent their money on power prior to that would leave. Period. And much as everyone wants these, and they will always get more expensive, Wizards will not reprint these. Eventually, they may just outright ban them, or allow for proxies in larger tournaments, but they will never, never, reprint these guys. And to the &@$+@^! who remembers them at $4, we don't need people like you driving people like us to make a time machine, go back in time, buy 50 of them and seal them in a case, and shatter the universe.

I'm literally in shock that some of the people posting on here are so stupid... Did they start playing yesterday? We have all been there, wondering why it was so great when it did a little more than an Island, or Plains, but then when you see not only can it add to storm count for free, or better yet, hold in hand for 3 Dark Rituals, and cast them all for free, and just go nuts with whatever you had in hand you start realizing that the reason it costs so much and is so great, is because it adds SPEED. Any game is going to be won faster when someone can pop this and a few Moxes out, and then Tinker for Inkwell Leviathan on turn 0, and still have Mana left to counter something.
And, to the moron who replied to the unlimited version, thanks for the laugh that you'd be able to kill it with Shatter, that was almost as priceless as this card. Moron.

He sold it a few years later because he was trying to open a business and needed the money. A man offered and paid, now you couldn't even guess, 17,000 dollars!!! Yes! Seventeen thousand!!! You heard that right! Can you believe that?? Now i'm not sure who it was but if you guys look it up, you'll find it! I'm not making this up!

The question of a deck that does not benefit from its inclusion has finally been answered: 43 land. Really though, for 99.9% of the decks out there, this card provides insane tempo advantage for no cost and should be an auto-include if you somehow find yourself lucky enough to get a hold of one.
In both situations your out in a card disadvantage. Black Lotus is not broken in any deck... Its beyond broken when you combine with card draw. Decks that only topdeck, it can actually lead to a card disadvantage.

☆☆☆☆☆ (0.0/5.0)
Black Lotus is certainly powerful, but I think it's power is lessened a bit in EDH/Commander.
Sure, it would be a great draw during the first few turns, but after say, turn 9-10 when you already have most if not all of the mana you'll need for your deck, this card becomes a dead draw. I think the same thing whenever I see someone include Dark Ritual or Lotus Petal in their EDH/Commander decks - risky but worth it if you can draw it during the early game.
It would be a great help if you went against someone playing land destruction, or land tap (telekinetic sliver, opposition, etc) EDH/Commander decks, or if you were playing charged spells that can only get better with more mana (comet storm, banefire), though. Then it wouldn't be so much of a dead draw in the late game (post turn 10). However, by that point there are also better late-game ramp cards (Mirari's Wake, Mana Reflection, etc) so its up to you. Early game advantage or late game staying power?

People say this is a good card, but it really makes you lose out on card advantage. You see, cards are more important than mana. If you have tons of mana but no cards, you can't do anything! But if you have tons of cards and not mana, you can still play the Pacts and other 0 mana cards. When you get better at this game, you realize that cards like this are really just noob-traps.

@Swag_Crow ....Why the hell would you play a pact when you have 0 mana.... I'd rather have an insane board advantage turn 1 then card advantage because card advantage helps late game not early game, if you have a shit ton of card advantage early game you just discard the stuff you want anyway..
I used a deck builder app to build my dream deck. With these babies in there, along with some of the other power nine, I consistantly had turn one victories. Blightsteel Colossus with Lightning Grieves turn one. Merit Lage with lightnigh grieves turn one. Sometimes turn two victories. Such epic power.
