A NUCLEAR Limited bomb...although Intimidate isn't quite as good in Scars, where half the creatures are artifacts.

Why sir, I do believe you have a Vengevine in your graveyard. Well, I most certainly hope you do not mind if I were to procure it from said graveyard. What's that? I have flipped over a second? Golly gosh, sir, you might as well just be handing me this match, shouldn't you be?

bahhh, he is so mean .. taking someone else's artifact (after possibly destroy it or mill it) is just not enough for him..

Back the first time through Mirrodin, they when they were printing Glissa, Bosh, Slobad and many of the other characters from Mirrodin's backstory, I wondered why they had ignored Geth.

I guess he who lasts the longest wins...

Card advantage, mill, and a big, somewhat evasive creature. Nomnomnom. A limited bomb in the truest form, though it'll be questionable as to how much constructed application it might have.

Given that Mirrodin can give you tons of Mana early with the Myr, this is insanely powerful.

I think this fella and Training Grounds are going to be good friends.
Black to steal 2 creatures or artifacts and mill alittle is damn efficient.

Oh yeah, that's what mythic is ought to be (not some chase-staple Lotus Cobra, that is). Hard to put on table, with traditional for black intimidate (fear) and activated ability that forces your opponent to deal with him or die in torture. Neat and balanced.

I can see this as a fun EDH Champion, but other than that legendary does slow him down a little (other than being eligible as an EDH general), limited bomb, Kitchen table fun.

@n00bmag1: Training grounds does not effect activated abilities with X in it, because when it is checked, X is essentially 0, and you cannot reduce it from 0.
if the cost was B2X then it would be reduced to BX, but thats about it.

Bomb-like in limited, but useless in standard.

Control can't tap out, and tapping out is exactly what you'll do with 6 mana unless you've already won the game.

@Mattmedia
According to the rulings on Training Grounds:
"Training Grounds can reduce the amount you pay for a creature's activated ability cost that includes {X}. For example, Drana, Kalastria Bloodchief has an activated ability that costs {X}{B}{B}. If you control Training Grounds and you activate the ability with X equal to 5, you'll have to pay only {3}{B}{B}. This is true even if the ability states that {X} must be paid with a certain color of mana, as Crimson Hellkite's ability does."

@Frostraven
Even though it does mill, I wouldn't put this in a blue/black control mill deck. Milling with this guy isn't the destination, it's the path. When you take a creature from their graveyard, his mill replenishes their graveyard with more creatures for you to take. I'm putting my copy in mono black.

Scars is an exceedingly weird set. Many of the key archetypes of every color are missing, perhaps because this is the first set to be preceded by two "Magic 20XX" sets and they wanted to avoid redundancy. Trying to build a deck from only the cards in Scars means going without a ton of very basic tools whose absence drives me entirely nuts - green has no Ramp, red has no way to give haste (there's an artifact there at least, but it's pricey), and black has no Zombify, with Geth here being practically the color's only stake in any graveyard! It's bizarre to not even have a Raise Dead variant, let alone an undercosted Zombify that doesn't work on artifacts like I would have designed.

People, Intimidate is not "sort of evasion" it is evasion. We don't call flying "sort of evasion" just bacause there are other creaures with flying and reach do we?

That being said, I love a 5/5 with evasion and a nifty ability for 6cmc. This is my new excuse to use Dark Ritual again.

I have a few questions.
If you use his activated ability:
1. Do you have to put a creature / artifact onto the battlefield with converted mana X from their graveyard to make the opponent put X cards into their graveyard from their library? What if they have no creatures / artifacts in their graveyard?
2. Do you have to pay only the target creature's converted mana cost and no more, or can you pay, say 6 to take their creature with converted mana cost 3, but still make them put 6 cards into their graveyard from their library?

Having just come in first place at FNM largely thanks to Geth, I can now safely say that he is probably the best card for limited I have ever seen. ratchet1215 is absolutely correct. He is a NUCLEAR bomb. I played a game in which he milled my opponent's Steel Hellkite, resulting in my opponent conceding immediately.

So, uh, yeah. He's pretty good.

He is my favorite card from scars, and one of my favorite cards period not only because he is good, but he is incredibly fun to use. The 5/5 evasion is a nice addition, but i barly pay attention to it as i'm too busy grabbing their cards. And, what's amazing is you don't have to have a lot of mill in you deck to use him because he is self sufficiant as far as making sure your opponents have graveyards. Of course, some milling alongside him is always nice.

I used to like Chainer, Dementia Master because he was the only guy who could sortof rise from the grave on a stick, but with the 3 life, low power and what happens when he is killed, Geth has blown him out of the water with no life cost, high power and, best of all, milling self sufficiency. yes i am being a little redundant but hey. I am.

I think he should have been the promo rather than Wurmcoil Engine, largly because alt art, while this art isn't bad, would be killer.

quick question, do I HAVE to target a creature or artifact or can I at one point pay 20 for the x and mill my opponent for 20?

You can only target creatures that have the mana cost of the amount of mana you paid. Thus, no card, no milling.

5/5 and im not talking about P/T ;)

This card is a perfect example of good design.
It's more or less "on the curve" with 5/5 + an keyword abillity.
It's very flavorful and very fitting to blacks color identity (fear, milling, graveyard recursion).
It's even a good example of good usage of mythic rarity because it's legendary.

It promotes intelligent play! You can't netdeck and play this card to it's full advantage.
"Should I use all my Mana on the next creature?"
"Should I revive something for 3 Mana and save 2 for a Doom Blade?"
"Should I strive for the biggest, yet useless thing to mill more in hope for a better target or should I rather take a small but useful Mana Myr?"

More Cards like this please!

Anyone notice how good he is with nirkana revenant? If you have the mana to play them both that means with Nirk Revenant out you have access to 12 mana. and if you play the revenant first then geth comes into play with six additional mana still available for his delightful ability. And thats just assuming you didnt draw another land in that time. and as a side note. Geth is sooooooooooo good against allies. It's like, well I was playing discard, but now I think I'll just do what you were doing. Kthanx

Ashnod's Altar + Bog Initiate + Geth
Sac some creatures if you want to pay for Geth faster, then pull out a 1 CMC creature from your opponent's graveyard for (1)(B) and mill a card then sac it back and pull it out again and again. Add a Genesis Chamber into the mix if you're sadistic.

This is (debatibly) one of the best cards in the set. Reanimation, milling, evaison (sorta) and a big body is great. The only downside is the cost, but that is a miniscule problem. Its also very amusing to see your opponents reaction when you have multiple Necrotic Oozes out and the toss this into the graveyard.

I have this card in deck, but bad is fact, I played it 1x....
Can be combinated with Liliana Vess last ability.

I think its something like Decimator Web (I combinated Decimator Web with Liliana Vess last ability....great) But Decimator web have more ablities but Geth is creature 5/5 :) Good card.
Tutor effect is good and LILIANA COMBO is too great :)

@ Eved: You don't need an excuse to play Dark Ritual, you need one NOT to.. Do you see any Burn Mages looking for a reason to cast a Bolt? How bout a Blue Mage needing an excuse to counter it before you can even place it on the table? Do you need an excuse to breathe air? Do you think it makes you any more of a BA to not NEED one of the best Black cards ever printed? Hell to the **** no it don't! Now calm down and just try not to embarrass yourself. By the way, this was just for laughs. I agree with everything else you said. I just needed an excuse to rip somebody a new one ha ha.

Definitely the most applicable spot for the (should be real) Lord creature type. Geth is just a zombie, who apparently has no class. Ouch.

This guy is the late game EDH boss! I run him in my Grixis EDH deck called Phyrexian Torment with Call to the Grave and Thraximundar as my general. The possibilities of what you can do with him are endless. We had a game go pretty long, and we had around 20 total mana available, but I was playing all the best cards out of my opponent's graveyard at instant speed. He tapped out. 5/5

I'm surprised no one's really mentioned Drana, Kalastria Bloodchief (aside from being used with Training Grounds, but that's not what I mean). Sure, it's an expensive combo, but it's still a decent one. Kill off their dude's with Drana, and yank'em back with Geth. If you've got some way of getting infinite mana (not TOO hard to do with the Myrs), you basically win. Kill off any one of their guys, and the moment they have a creature in their grave, you win (yank, mill, kill it, yank it back, mill, repeat until nothing is in their deck). It even bypasses the Eldrazi by being able to steal them as well. Even without infinite mana, it's still a good combo since you can spend the rest of your mana to steal whatever you can and kill it to open up more options.

This has been my EDH general for a while now...was just in a 4 player FFA with about 50 mana open due to cabal coffers and other cards like gaunlet of power and caged sun...someone got stupid and played a seedborn muse...i procedded to kill the seedborn muse...bring it back with geth and proceed to kill each player at the beginning of each of there upkeeps...he is a blast to play if you can fuel its ability and when everything is said and done its still a 5/5 with evasion for 6...thats pretty good alone, 5/5 for epicness

@SteelWulf: The cost doesn't include Tap, and it doesn't say "use this ability only once per turn", so you can keep on using it for as long as you have mana.

@Gareth32: Even if you do manage to get this out against someone with a Black Lotus, it's still not an infinite combo, since Geth brings the artifact back tapped, and the Lotus has a tap in its activation cost.

My friend was playing malfegor as his hellbent commander. I was playing geth. He dropped a lion's eye diamond, cracked it to activate the ability on some creature, I had a single swamp untapped, and a viscera seer out. I responded by recurring the LED, cracking it for {B}{B}{B}, then repeat the process 50679843 times, then recurred and sacced everyone's dudes Over and over, and milled everyone's deck!
He doesn't play with LED anymore....
