5/5 for nostalgia and limited awesomeness.

3 stars for being slightly above average, but still mediocre especially for a rare in a new set.
Please let him die peacefully

Love him or hate him, you gotta pay your respects to this classic.

I know they shouldn't, but I wish they'd reprint the FTV art once. I love that art.

In a draft I would prefer him to Scrooge of Valkas, but that is possibly the worst dragon ever.

I have a feeling that dragons are going to be important in standard soon. I'm very pleased to see this reprinted! Back in the day you saved your Counterspells for this guy, and while there are better dragons now, he still isn't bad.

This is one of my favorite dragons! I wish they would give some of these reprints new art though :/

Well, he still kills you in about a turn or two with a nice, big pump. Perfectly playable.

Balanced. Classic. Fun.

The Dragon that started it all. In my eyes, still the perfect, balanced Dragon.

Just to put things into perspective, this used to cost $25/ea.

I learned of this because this guy who plays at my comic store used to play around 3rd edition. He had a playset of these and was playing against a friend of his. He wasn't competitive, but he still paid $25 for them.

Regardless, he played his first one, but it got countered by Counterspell, as Rabbimoshie mentioned.
He played his second. Countered again.
He played his third. Countered again.
He draws his fourth. "Ok buddy" he said. "If you have another god-damned Counterspell in your hand, I'm going to eat this".
The other guy countered the last Dragon, thinking he wouldn't seriously eat something that was $25.

He then ate the most expensive piece of cardboard he's ever eaten.

I fail to see any downside to this card, it's not excellent but it is easily one of my favorite cards of all time

It's the original dragon that does dragon things.

I do not really LIKE saying this, as a rather old gamer I'm very attached to Nostalgia. (24, and tbh, this game is intended to be accessible to 13 yr olds. This usually puts off everyone older than 16 that plays. :/ )

But Truth be told, this card is...powerful, but weak. For "Constructed" play, it's practically no better than many commons. For Sealed Deck or Limited, it certainly IS a win-condition, and *5* toughness is really tough to beat...but at the same time, every color has good ways to kill it. It has absolutely zero protection from removal, not a single clause or condition on it's abilities prevent it from dying to even the narrowest of removal spells.....EXCEPT for red cards that can't hit flying creatures ala Earthquake, but those cards are very often used as Lava Axes anyway.

Therefore, even though it WOULD make it incredibly powerful, it would DEFINITELY be a mark of Power Creep, it would be .... in a lot of ways, one of very very few curtains left to fall on the Ancient Days of MAGIC....this needs

to become an Uncommon. It would Change Core Set Limited certainly, but not break it. Rather, it would just make the card Relevant without giving you the bad feels that it ate your Rare slot. It would be a good solution to Powerful Bombs that other players get in their Mythic and Rare slots. It's probably not anymore ''broken'' than Doom Blade in Limited, and Doom Blade is justly at Uncommon right now. AND

Serra Angel as an Uncommon and this as a Rare feels wrong. They should be together, they are very similar in power, just different in use.

Right now, I don't think many people play this in Limited, simply because it's first of all at Rare so not many people pull it in Limited, and second because Uncommons and Mythics together tend to fill the different roles you could want this card for, only do it better.

If you see this in a draft, take it. There is literally no better card in the set in Limited.

The standard to which all bombs are compared. Still a classic, still a bomb, still the one dragon.

Strictly worse than Charizard. I'd rather level a Charmander up to level 36 than wait till Turn 6 to play this.

You know, I invariably associate magic with this. when I first started to play magic, I had to play with one of my friend's decks. I always loved the shivian dragon in the red deck because I got it often and once I had it, I would win in a few turns. MTG classic, one of my favorite cards, and and all time winner. 5/5 stars.

I am >SO< disappointed that nobody had mentioned the fact that this card can do something I learned called "Firebreathing."
In other words, you can use that +1 +0 ability anytime you want during your turn as long as you can pay for it.
The amount of untapped mountains you have is the amount you can supercharge your dragon buddy!

This thing can win the game in two attacks and would absolutely bust the limited formats at uncommon. There aren't uncommons that swing for 11 or more evasive damage on turn 7, and for good reason.

While this iconic critter is nowhere as viable in Constructed today as it was in the early years of Magic, it still remains a very powerful bomb in Limited. Just yesterday, I won an M14 draft with Shivan Dragon. I delayed casting it until I felt that my opponent was out of removal, and it won me the game each time it resolved throughout the entire draft. That draft basically paid for itself thanks to this iconic red fattie.

Remember, folks, most cards are made for Limited. If it seems worthless in a Constructed deck, it may be very powerful in Limited.
