The mighty Plague Wind combined with a powerful 8/8 body, though you won't be able to lethally attack in the same turn. I like it a lot, and at that cost it doesn't seem unreasonable.

Im glad that you have to cast it to use its ability

Actually, you can attack with it in the same turn, as it's in Kaalia's deck, as well as bypass the hefty cost.

@wontongsoup: I think that wasn't the point

This certainly can create interesting plays. Decisions, decisions :D

If you sneak it in with Kaalia, you didn't "cast it from your hand" and thus it's plague wind effect won't trigger.

Demons should always feel this evil and I think his cost is fair. Sitting next to Basandra, Battle Seraph and the other angels of the preconstructed commander deck he highlights the contrasts between good and evil, heaven and hell. Great flavour in that context.

Sunblast Angel's arch nemesis. I like it. Hard to recover from though, even with the downside.

Awesome flavour.
It's easy to miss the "from your hand" clause though since it's included in Kaalia's deck, and it's natural to assume all the cards made for her deck would have maximum synergy with her.

between him and plague wind I choose the sorcery. Plague wind kills regenerators, and if you have ten mana to summon your 8/8 semi plague wind creature that doesn't kill them DEAD... you just hand fed mortivore and korlash, heir to blackblade.

honestly, I would just prefer Plague Wind. Plague winds costs one less and doesn't delay all your creatures, so that's a 2-turn advantage on this guy. but if you just really love 8/8 demons, go ahead, put this guy in your deck.

P.s. I'd like to point out that plague wind kills all of your ally's creatues too, which can be funny, but sometimes, not good. so that's the one thing dread cacodemon has on plague wind.

I don't see this being played without Cabal Coffers

What were they thinking? I'm not dissing this card on it's own, but they printed it for a deck based on playing bombs for free and they make a rare with a 'cast from your hand' clause. wtf

Considering it's basically a Plague Wind with an 8/8 body for one more Black, this is pretty damn good. Not to mention ... sure, he'll slow down your creatures ... so just play him after you've done everything you wanted to (attack, abilities, whatever). The other guys won't exactly be in a position to respond! Even if they DO get something hasty out, what wants to attack into a 8/8?

I like that he Lorthos, the Tidemakers your own guys. BOW BEFORE ME.

Follow up with Liliana Vess' ultimate: win at everything forever.

he looks just a bit more like a Beast than a Demon (no wings), but that's ok. As long as you do the expected most of the time, doing something different actually adds to the card, not detracts. A Core Set Demon could never not have flying. Personally, for brute force, I prefer using Kaalia, because sometimes NOT destroying everything is the correct move (like if you've already got a nice army from Hell and you don't want to lose it.)

@Miliman: Politics. If you blow up the board on the same turn you also throw this guy down paying its mana cost, you'll immediately make yourself Public Enemy #1, if you weren't already.
If you cheat into play with Kaalia, then every one gets to keep their creatures. If you don't see how that could be useful in a multiplayer game, how even the threat of casting him might be better than actually doing so, you don't know how to do politics very well.
You would have lost the Cold War and we would all be living in a radioactive wasteland because you think that every nuke you have MUST be fired. Nukes in your hand are better than Nukes on the field (launched), unless you have a deck which doesn't mind being ganged up on all the time. If you're deck IS that powerful, why don't you try playing it in Archenemy, only without a Scheme Deck?

Politics isn't just something silly Commander players add 'just to increase the complexity of the fun'. It is actually a survival tool, as important to know in order to play as the mana curve and card advantage concepts are central to 60-card Magic.

Huh. Guess it's just me: Every time I read this card's name, I think of that scene from Dogma. I know it's supposed to supposed to sound like "cacophany", but...

Ah, same root word perhaps! http://www.etymonline.com/index.php?term=caco-

"I will open one of my six mouths, and I will sing the song that ends the world."

Should have been the flavor text.

The Mimeoplasm can come into play as a copy of Dread Cacodemon, and assume you casted Mimeoplasm, the effect of Cacodemon would still trigger. The same could be said with all other copy cards.

The Cacodemon in my mind is always a big red round floating meatball which get chainsawed all the time....

It's not reanimation friendly and it doesn't fly. It's not demonic enough for me.

@darthparallax: Multiplayer politics is a difficult thing for a lot of magic players. It's because most people play only one on ones, and don't recognise that pulling some awesome move off that hurts all other players gets you killed very quickly.

This guy can still be worth playing from the hand though. As well as one-on-one uses, he's also very necessary when some git has a token army or the like. Though really Reiver Demon gets the job done just as well.

Also, I have just realised - this is the FIFTH demon I've found so far that can kill Baneslayer Angel. Wow. That protection really ain't working out for her.

Unlike Darth, I've built decks completely around these nukey-demons in casual multiplayer (only 20 life mind you) and, while he's right that I was public enemy #1, by the time you're casting 10-mana demons you probably have lockdown via Pestilence Demon or other repeat-boardsweeps.

This deck heavily benefited from Extraplanar Lens and Harvester of Souls

If the mana cost on this card is bugging you, There are a few options you can do to get behind that.
Rakdos, Lord of Riots Swing with Rakdos and a few other guys, Then this!
Cabal coffers The most obvious way to do things.
Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx If you run Mono black, This should work. Should
