"{1BB}: Search your library for a copy of Damnation, Grave Pact, Wrath of God, Garruk Wildspeaker, Jace the Mindsculptor or any other awesome 4-cmc spell, reveal it and put it into your hand." This card is madness. The beauty of it all is that you can spend your 3rd turn tutoring and cast your 4-cmc spell on your 4th turn. 4.5/5 for being an excellent tutor. Moreover, it can't be countered by regular counterspells. The only backside is that it's a creature, but having fear, I guess it fits nicely in a slow control deck where your strategy is to slowly grind your opponents down; having a creature with evasion is always a good alternative if your manlands aren't able to get through or if you want to speed up the victory.
I love the irresponsible skeletons in the background just comparing their weapons.

I overlooked this card while making my Karador sacrifice for value EDH deck, but recently, I realized how bonkers it is as a tutor. For me, it fetches me a total of 13 cards, including Grave Pact, Wrath of God, Damnation, Solemn Simulacrum, Heartmender and Wickerbough Elder (both part of the main infinite combo the deck has), and Greater Good (my favorite sac outlet, and also part of an infinite draw combo). And that's just what it tutors for. The very act of transmuting puts him in the grave, reducing Karador's cost.
As a creature, though, he's meh. Fear is nice, but a 2/3 body for 4 kinda sucks, even if he can regenerate. I wouldn't want to cast him unless things are really getting bad, or if I really really need a sac outlet to gain value, and in that case, I might as well tutor Greater Good.
Despite that, he's a great choice for midrange decks and EDH, since there are loads of other great cards for 4 mana. I give him a 4/5 just because of all the cool things he can tutor.

That aside, Transmute is always a good addition to make an okay-good card better.
