It's also nice that they made this ability work at the end step.

It's not uncommon for a control deck to use only a single creature in play (such as Ichorid). Even Reassembling Skeleton would suit the role.

I mean it's not that bad... It has the potential to give you multiple 5/5 fliers, and all for the low, low cost of five mana and an entire deck that you built around it. I'll give it 2.5/5

I think people are really underestimating this card. Sure, it's not going to be a money rare, I'll give it that. But when you play it, you're pretty much guaranteed 2 creatures a turn. Since it's at the end step, and not the upkeep, I can see a lot of fun tricks working towards this.
I actually hope I get one in sealed deck. Would be fun.

What you get by going through the loops of getting this effect is not really worth it to be honest, plus if they kill your single creature you're stuck with a 5CMC enchantment that does nothing.
Not worth the risk, sadly. Still a fun casual card.

could be lullzy with Ghostly Flicker or even Cloudshift at the end of your turn. Blink 1-4 creatures (Ghostly Flicker does not specify non-creature artifacts and creatures only artifacts and creatures) out at the end of your turn to proc this guy.
I'm a Johnny, and I noticed this card immediately Mode. Have you tried Sudden Disappearance? :) Can we actualy break this one? Please tell me it's broken! :D

Less than 2.6 with the current 16 votes. Obviously not many Jhonny players have stumbled upon this card yet. I'll give it a 4/5 since this seems like a really nice card to build around.
Sure, having exactly one creature isn't a condition that's that easy to fulfill, but it's not a particularly hard one either.
Notice how it triggers at the beginning of your end step, not during your upkeep. So if everything goes right, you get a 5/5 black (and therefore Doom Blade resistant) flying demon token for - which is perfectly fine - and along with that a whole subscrîption for them on every subsequent turn!
Before i get started on a more elaborate rant, i just wanted to point out this one combo with Mark of the Oni. It's a hell of fun. Literally! You don't need to have any creatures, just make sure you have Demonic Rising out. Then cast the mark on your opponent's favorite. At end of turn, let Demonic Rising resolve first, get yourself a 5/5 demon and keep your opponent's dude.
Also there's Mutavault, that works great with both enchantments.
You can make sure that you get this token by using a sacing outlet. And the right sac outlet can be devasting if you dump your demons for it. Or simply rely on single creatures with undying. With these two possibilities in mind, you might even consider throwing in a Demonic Taskmaster. He does a great job alone, you can sacrifice your undying creatures without too much regret, and when you draw another saccing outlet, you can still get rid of him. If it is a creature itself, you can even double the demon fun! And two 5/5 flyers that will basically just respawn when one of them dies - as long as your opponent doesn't kill both at once - already seems like a huge threat towards him/her. And aside from that - because it triggers during the end step - you can also play around with flicker effects, like Cloudshift. (Not by targeting the Demon obviously, but by flickering every other creature so you'll get up to two tokens even if you have other creatures. And it can be used perfectly on undying creatures. Conjurer's Closet might even find use for this.
Also later on you could feed Doomgape with this. Or Xathrid Demon. If you splash green, Greater Good also seems like an awfully good card with this. Drawing five cards and discarding three that do a good job in your graveyard seems really good. In Standard, Triumph of Ferocity might do a good job as well. Dread Return should also fit in just great - if you don't have any creatures, cast it to return one from the graveyard to make the enchantment trigger, and in case you got three creatures, sacrifice them for the flashback to reanimate your strongest buddy and let Demonic Rising trigger again. Abyssal Persecutor should do a great job as well since you have many ways to sacrifice him.

@Darth Parallax: World Queller? It would provide fuel each turn, so you would blow up a creature of your opponents' each turn and get a 5/5 demon blocker, plus pull off any non-creature sac triggers *coughMorbidcough*. If they're clear of useful creatures, you can swing with the Queller and demon for nine. Fill the rest out with burn/removal like Brimstone Volley and Tragic Slip, creatures that do stuff when they die like Goblin Arsonist and Perilous Myr, some non-creature sac-outlets like Spawning Pit and Divine Reckoning (which is awesome with this card alone), and some protection like Whispersilk Cloak, and you have quite a fun casual deck

Great combo with Helvault. Just keep remove your creature by its first ability. Then destroy Helvault one time, and BOOM tons of demons!

The main reason I dislike this card is that it works against itself and the rest of the lonely man, 'if you only have one creature', abilities. I was excited when I first saw it, but its flaws kept coming up. You have to have one creature on the field. Unless it's a hexproof/shrouded tank, there's so much removal going around (cough, tragic slip, cough), restricting yourself to a single creature is very risky. That risk is only slightly offset by all the exalted-esque boosts. Boosts which are taken away by this card.
Being a fan of swarms, I then turned to trying to find a way to keep multiplying the tokens. Besides Parallel Lives, there's nothing I can think of. Cards like Helvault and Sudden Disappearance don't work, since the tokens will disappear as soon as they hit the exile zone. Still, with Parallel Lives (or several ;D), you'll get a small swarm to beat your opponent's face in. If they die, cast another creature or have one set aside to trigger this again.
I really wanted to like this card.. Unfortunately, it's about as weak as a rare can get (still better than Archangel's Light though), and really only seems to be in that slot to avoid having floods of this clunky card.

Picked this in a sealed. Well worth the cost. It basically read for me "Pay 2 Black Mana and 3 Colorless Mana: Put a 5/5 token with flying into play at the end of your turn, and put ANOTHER 5/5 token with flying into play at the end of your next turn."
Single handedly won me two matches.
After the first one came into play, I just cast all the rest of my creatures, and suicidally attacked with them. My opponent was damned if he blocked them, and damned if he didn't.

Traditional flicker effects don't work with this for the same reason they don't work against mass removal - they exile and then return the creature immediately. There's no time in-between for other abilities/effects to resolve. Only those cards that return creatures at the end step, like Sudden Disappearance, will work.

Not as bad as you would think in sealed deck. There are a lot of times this comes in handy actually. Sometimes it's pretty much a 5/5 for 5 flyer. You would be surprised how often a situation like this comes up.

That combo will not work. Once the demon tokens enter the Helvault they will disappear. The same thing happens to tokens no matter how they leave play. They will trigger any leaving the battlefield or entering the graveyard (if the graveyard is their destination) effects you have set up, but once they are gone they are gone forever.

Very strange card, and quite underrated as well. It may read badly, but in practice you don't exactly need to jump through hoops to have just one creature on your side of the field by the turn you play this, which will net you a 5/5 flyer, and if your opponent removes one or both of your creatures, it's trivially easy to just set yourself up for another demon.
If you feel like doing something more fancy, you can play this alongside creatures with Lord of the Pit style upkeep costs. Demonic Taskmaster can play offense while Demonic Uprising plays defense without seriously interfering with Homicidal Seclusion support. You can also use the steady influx of demon tokens to keep Xathrid Demon well fed, while Xathrid Demon hits the opponent for 5 whenever he eats one. I'm sure there are other interesting interactions I'm missing, but the point is that Demonic Uprising, while not exactly a powerhouse, can do very solid work if you're willing to make a few allowances for it.

This card would be worth 100% of that 5 CMC if it was a legendary enchantment with "Grandeur - put a 5/5 black demon flier into the battlefield." At least that way you could guarantee a trigger at end of turn. Amirite?

i think it's solid in a sac deck. Obvious combo is demonic taskmaster. Also throw in stuff like bonesplinters, archwing dragon, reassembling skeleton, culling dais. The list goes on. The card must be built around, but it works well if you do. Be sure to have enough board clearing power and you're fine.

@DoragonShinzui IMO this is an insurance plan for "loner" control, you either have a 5/5 demon beating face on turn 5 plus a mediocre other creature, or your opponent wastes removal on your loner and you get 2 5/5 demons. Or you could always just fling or altar's reap off the token... and get another next turn while your loner does his stuff.
I don't know how many times this card has saved my ass. Saved me against a $150 Bloodline Keeper vampire deck while I was playing Heartless Summoning. When you're top-decking, this card brings out a big bad demon to protect you while you chump with your last guy, and then he brings a buddy along. 5/5 FLYING demon turn 5 is not a bad deal.
EDIT: It took me two months to realize it wasn't a weird long-headed demon in the art and it was actually the demon's hand X_x

Just saw this get played in the world championship cup, by Brazil's green-black unified standard deck. They never actually got a chance to use this little combo, but they had one available: Mutavault. Essentially, on any turns you have no creatures, you can activate Mutavault before the end step, and as long as it survives, wham, easy demon token. This also means that on a turn where you have 6 mana, you can cast Demonic Rising and then tap Mutavault to pay for itself, and so you get your first 5/5 token on that very turn, as well as your enchantment which should end up making more as the game progresses.
So, take it from me (erm, from team Brazil rather) - manlands. Run them with Demonic Rising.
@LifegainWithBite - how is it ridiculously bad if your opponent runs any sort of removal? If they get rid of the demon, it's card advantage. If they get rid of the Rising, it's a 1 for 1 only if you haven't gotten any demons out of it already, and it's not unlike other 5 drops in that it goes away. Nothing makes this card more vulnerable to removal than other 5 drop cards, so it's not ridiculously vulnerable.

I like comboing this with Xathrid Demon, even with no creatures other then it left in play, I always end my turn with a nice, chunky 5/5 demon for me to sacrifice next upkeep and make my opponents lose 5 life. Rinse, repeat.
Have the taskmaster out with both and a) you start your turn, sac a creature other than the demon, leaving you with just him. b) homicidal seclusion becomes active, giving you a flying 7/4 with lifelink. swing c) end of turn, this lets you put out a 5/5 to block d) next turn, sac the token to the taskmaster, back to only one creature. seclusion activates again... repeat until win
